Houndstooth and Colourful Armour

Today was a half-day at work, as I had to skedaddle at 1:30pm to get to my periodontal appointment. Bring on the loopy drugs and full face freeze!
My freezing is starting to wear off and I need to sleeeeep, so let's get this post posted.

  • Wool cardigan - Ports International, vintage, consignment; last worn here in June for the Day of Indolence
  • Cashmere sleeveless sweater - J. Crew, consignment; last seen here in July with a silk butterfly wing topper
  • Trousers - Topshop, thrifted; last seen here in September 2018 with a pajama jacket
  • Shoes - Karl Lagerfeld; last worn here (4th outfit) in August with my brolly skirt

I built the outfit around these houndstooth non-stretchy trousers that have been a smidge too tight for me to wear over the past few months, so have been languishing unworn.
I felt a bit self-conscious with the slightly snug thighs - and it was raining out - so I wore this long lovely cobalt blue cardigan.

"Here comes the 80s!" proclaimed Lesley at work.
Instead of wearing more white or black for a top, I went with another primary colour: yellow!

Yellow is my armour colour, makes me feel brave! I need to be brave to go get my teeth scaled. Ugh.
As I was getting off the bus, one of the passengers tugged my arm and told me how much she liked all my colours. Thank you, random lady! Aren't comments from strangers the best?

Done up - it has been raining off and on all day, but it's still warm-ish out.
I added another black and white pattern in this silk scarf and carried an umbrella.

The stuff:
On a normal week, I would have worn my yellow pumps, but flats are ruling the day.

Black and white and yellow and blue bling:
My accessories are armour too.

  • Silk scarf - fake Louis (Lewis!) Vuitton, thrifted
  • Yellow cuff - thrifted
  • Black and white cuff - vintage fair
  • Earrings - thrifted, Sidney
  • Silver/onyx ring - Tocara, vintage fair
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

And now...a nap.

  1. Compliments from strangers always make my day! Love the colour combo and agree with yellow being an armour, it makes me feel invincible when I wear it, too.
Hope you're over your dental issues today. xxx

    1. Yup, they always make my day too, Vix. Thank you - nothing can touch me when I'm in yellow!

A day or so to shake the wooziness out of my system and for my jaw to stop being sore from all the needles, and I'll be right as rain.

  2. Those houndstooth printed pants are so chic. I love how you paired them with a yellow top and yellow shoes. For me yellow is such a happy colour. I'm also loving that cobalt blue long cardi, it's fabulous. No wonder you got compliments from a stranger. You look fantastic in this styling. Lovely accessories too. I really like the rings and the bracelets. Good luck with the scales, I will probably need to get them some day too. It shouldn't be very painful, it should be less work than getting ceramics.

    1. Thank you, Ivana! I really liked the two primary colours together with the black/white pattern. Ugh, I hate scaling but it's necessary! Agree, better than getting new teeth!

  3. I love the blue and yellow together, perfect for the dentist, and those pants don't look too tight at all, they look great on you! :)

I saw a lady in the street the other day wearing a kimono I also had, and as we were walking up to each other in other directions I decided to compliment her on it. I only managed to squeak out that she looked so beautiful and gorgeous with her outfit and kimono before I felt too awkward to share I had the same one and was inspired to wear it similarly - but that was enough as she had a huge smile and kept saying thank you before we parted ways! I'm trying to be more bold with giving people compliments! I agree it can really be the highlight of a day to get one, so I'm trying to give them out more!

That's so cool that you spoke up - you totally made her day! Way to go!

  4. I tried to give compliments whenever I see someone wearing something that catches my eye. That takes a bit of courage as I'm quite shy, but it's very gratifying to see the smiles these compliments generate. And here I am complimening you on your fabulous outfit, which put a smile on MY face. The houndstooth combined with the yellow and the added cobalt indeed has a bit of an 80s feel. I'm sure you needed your yellow armour for your dental appointment. Hope you're feeling better after a good night's sleep. xxx

    1. Me too, Ann! Compliments are such powerful things, and you can't overestimate what a difference they can make in someone's day. I did have a "very 80s" comment from one of my coworkers on the blue/yellow mix, but I'm happy to wear such bright colours - they were great armour! I'll be all back to normal in a day or so, after all the drugs are out of my system.

  6. Oh yes, I like compliments from strangers! And it's nearly always women. I find...

The outfit is lovely, such cheerful colours and you look fabulous in it. Loved the coordinating accessories. I actually have a light weight coat; the same length and colour as your cardigan minus the buttons- yet to be worn on the blog so I must dig it out!

    1. I get compliments from the men I work with (I've educated them all on how to pay compliments!), but yes, from strangers, it's mostly women.

Thank you so much, Vronni! Ooh, you must dig that coat out!

  7. Two colours with b&w looks so much better than one! It's really graphic, like pop art.

    1. Thank you so much, Mim! That's probably why I got that 80s comment - pop art was such a thing then.

  8. I make a point of complimenting people who are wearing something that catches my eye, especially when they are women my age or older. I enjoy getting a compliment from a stranger and I imagine they do too. I love this combination of two bold primary colours with the houndstooth pants.

  9. Random compliments are often the most sincere don't you think? I hope your appointment was bearable (way back in time now, I know). The colour blocking is fabulous my dear from your most sincere friend xxx

    1. I think so! They're unprompted, the person doesn't know you - so they feel really sincere. The appointment was all good (I actually fall asleep while she's doing my teeth!). Thank you, my dear.
