Autumnal Pastels

It's officially the first day of fall or autumn today, but my closet swapover doesn't happen until this coming weekend. This means one last week to wear things that are probably going to be packed away, like these pastels.
Pastels in autumn? Shocking!

I'll also be wearing items that I just want to wear again, you know, shopping one's closet and all that. I have lots of new-to-me clothes that are waiting in the wings, but until I change the closet over, I'm not going to wear them.

  • Mohair sweater - unknown, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in December 2018 with matchy tights
  • Blouse (underneath) - Renuar, thrifted; last seen here in May with a two-piece suit
  • Skirt - Ted Baker, consignment, Vancouver; first worn here in April with a sparkly salamander
  • Shoes - Big Presence Earhart, Fluevog; last seen here in June with some vintage 90s gear
  • Coat (below) - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last worn here earlier this month

It's hard to say for sure what will be packed up, and what will stay out. I kind of have to assess everything at the same time and see how many hangers I have!
It's likely that this pink mohair sweater will stay out - I love the bright colour and it's great for layering. Also, I don't hang my sweaters, so that's not a factor for space.

I am considering keeping this skirt out - the dark elements in the pattern will go well with some of my fall items.
I loved wearing it again today - it's another item that's been a little on the snug side for the past few months. Yay, it fits!

I had a few of my coworkers come around my desk to see what I was wearing on the bottom, because I looked too "normal" on the top.
"Oh, phew! There's a pattern and bright shoes."

It is definitely feeling like coat season now. But let's still squeeze in another wearing of this lovely fluffy beast.
It's been a favourite light coat for a few years. I'll have to tally up my cost-per-wear on it one of these days, as I've worn it dozens of times and only paid $19.99 for it.

The stuff:
Your eyes did not deceive you: I wore pink and orange together. These shoes are definitely getting packed away - the lavender/mango colourway is very spring-y, plus I have oodles of fall/winter shoes and boots, and need room for them all to be out.

Orange bling:
My "jello shot" necklace is always popular - I liked how the bright orange looked against the vibrant pink of the sweater.

  • Necklace - Banana Republic, consignment
  • Earrings - Oscar & Libby's
  • Silver/sodalite ring - 1996, Scotland
  • Orange ring - 1960s, Italy, vintage mall

What would you keep out from this outfit for fall?

  1. I would keep all of it out - minus the coat - for fall but not for winter. Lise

    1. Thanks, Lise! If I had a huge wardrobe space, I probably would keep it all out.

  2. I would definitely keep this out for fall, just change the colour of the shoe to a darker tone, oxblood/burgundy tone or perhaps navy? The sweater is such a pretty pink, nor bubble gum pink and not bland dusty rose. I love the acccessories your wore with it they were perfect. What I love about fall dressing is pulling out my suits and plaids and jewel tones, but after about a few months into winter dressing I feel a bit starved for brighter colours as the season progresses, and eventually I find myself in head to to black. Great outfit and there are lots of possibilities for the skirt.

    1. Good idea, Dar! You know I might have a few burgundy shoes/boots! I have blue velvet boots that would look great with this outfit as is (different necklace, though). I love the soft pink colour of the sweater too, very unusual.

I'm glad you appreciated the accessories - orange is not the usual combination, but I liked how it worked in this ensemble. I agree, I often find myself craving bright colours around Jan/Feb - must keep a few out so that I don't sink into the doldrums.

  3. What a beautiful floral midi...I love how you styled it too with that sweater. You wear pastels so well. The pastel heels are very chic. The light coat is so unique and pretty. I can see why it is one of your favourites. All together, this is such a gorgeous styling. You look phenomenal.

  5. Lovely outfit and I adore the 'jello' necklace! The skirt could definitely be a winter item; very cheerful colours for cold, dark days!

    1. Thanks, Vronni! I get a kick out of the necklace - I've worn it so many times, I've gotten my $5's worth out of it.

I agree on the skirt - it's too cool not to keep out.

  6. What an adorable jumper! I would definitely keep that one out for Autumn/Winter. Love your skirt too and all your gorgeous, well-chosen accessories. As I always do when I see those shoes, I'm swooning over them. And no wonder that jelly shot necklace is popular: what an fun piece of jewellery it is! I will only be doing my swap-over in October, but then I'm always keeping a section of Autumn appropriate stuff at the ready. xxx

    1. Thank you so much, Ann - it's very sheer, so it has to be layered, but that's always a good plan for the chilly months. Thank you! I'm nervously anticipating my swapover on Sunday - it takes SO long to do!

    1. Thanks, Robyn! I see quite a bit of Ted Baker in the second-hand stores here, but it's mostly overpriced. I'm excited to mix this skirt in with my fall wardrobe.

Lol, I've been doing dark florals for years! Fashion's copying me! ;-P

  8. You look totally huggable today in that adorable sweater - I do hope someone gave you a big hug! I'll be sad to say adios to those gorgeous shoes again, but hey I know there will be so many lovely pairs to replace them. The coat - will it stay or go?

    1. Hmmm, I don't think I got any hugs that day - I'm not much of a huggy/touchy person, though. Yes, the shoes were packed away, and the coat too.
