Tattooed Lady Dress

Today, I just felt like not overthinking my outfit. Dress time!
I've been wanting to wear this lovely dark floral dress since I bought it only a few days ago!

  • Dress - Nanette Lepore, thrifted; purchased here new with tags for $26.95
  • Shoes - Mini Qtee, Fluevog, consignment; last seen here in January in an autumn mermaid outfit
  • Coat (below) - Danier Leather; last worn here in February

I twirled for a few of my coworkers - it was a delight to wear. No static, Swoosh Factor 8.
Aside from this being another example of a Jammy Dress (i.e. like pajamas), I refer to this covered up style as a Tattooed Lady Dress.

Me? Tattoos? Nah...
That lady looks too Klassy for that!

Heh, I know better. Spring is coming - and out comes the ink. My newer colleagues will be shocked.
I did wear a full vintage black slip under this in case it was see-through (it was not!), and for warmth in the morning.

Outerwear - leather weather!
I carried my scarf and gloves home in my bag and happily opened my coat up on my walk home. Ah, spring!

  • Fur scarf - thrifted
  • Leather gloves - thrifted

The stuff:
I went with comfy but funky shoes, but I could wear so many different shoes with this dress! The possibilities...Hmmm...maybe I should keep the dress out for early spring/early autumn?

Simple bling:
I know my Fendi belt will look great with this, but I chose to go with this fuzzy pony-hair red belt instead.

  • Belt - Gap, consignment
  • Aventurine/silver ring - consignment
  • Silver snake ring - 1986, BC Museum Gift Shop
  • Earrings - thrifted; purchased here for $2.95 - first wearing

  1. I think you should definitely keep that dress out for transitional dressing. So beautiful! In cooler weather it would look good with boots.

    1. I think you're right, Linda. I am dying to wear it with boots! I have at least 4 pairs that will go with it.

  3. "Swoosh" -- I'm assuming this is a technical term. Off to do research. :-)

    1. Swoosh Factor is the term, and it's a scale of 1-10, with 1 being a pencil skirt (zero swoosh), and 10 being a Ginger Rogers uber-swooshy gown. :)

  4. Beautiful new dress.
I wonder if these dark florals would "qualify" as a prairie dress? It's long sleeved, mid calf, floral, I'd say yes !
What does it look like without a belt?

    1. Oh, totally it's a prairie dress - I was thinking that when I bought it. It looks exactly the same without a belt, as the waist has that same elastic smocking as the neck and cuffs. However, I like a belt to break up the line a bit.

  6. Reading your post on the bus this morning, its title had me stumped at first. I was actually looking for tattooed ladies ON your dress! Silly me! That dress looks as fabulous on you as I thought it would. Oh, and that fuzzy red belt! Love those funky shoes too! In fact, I love everything about your outfit. I'm sure your new co-workers won't be too surprised when they see your tattoos, though! xxx

    1. Ha, wouldn't that be cool, though, Ann? Thank you so much - I felt very comfy and "me" in it as well. I always shock a few people who have somehow missed that I have tattoos.

  7. Such a beautiful dress and I really like the red belt with it! :) A simple printed dress is as you know a staple for me, especially for work.

Your comment on my blog made me giggle! No, not pregnant! Just a combination of a very stressful year and a new medication with a little overindulgence of chocolate due to the stressful year, haha! I'm sure once it's cooler jeans weather again I'll be forced to get back in shape, ha! :) Having completed the work certification I've been studying for for 4 months helps too!

    1. Thank you - this type of dress would look amazing on you, Mica!

I'm so sorry! It was just that one picture - and you're such a good mom, it was possible that it could happen! Sounds like it's been a hard time lately for you - good on you for finishing your certification on top of all that!

    2. Oh don't be sorry, it was an honest question and when I saw what you said I scrolled up and realised the photo that had made you think that, haha! :) It's been stressful in a good way - I'm not yet sure how much will be shared on my blog, but we have a very big trip upcoming and are soon to move into the house we have been building for the last year or so! Maximum stress, but for good reasons! :)

    3. Thank you for being so sweet about it, Mica. Wow, that's a lot on your plate - I appreciate you sharing, especially as I know how private you are about your real life. Hugs to you, my dear. I hope things ease off soon.

    4. No worries, thank you! I know that all the stress will be worth it in the end, so that's keeping us going :) Plus it's all very exciting despite the stress, haha!

      Agreed!

  9. What a gorgeous dress, Of course, the print does not compare to the ink that you will support very soon. I love the funky shoes that you decided to combine with this, as it adds contrast. Otherwise the dress could be too sweet. I also love the snake ring and red leather coat. Very beautiful.

  12. The dress is a different look for you than what I'm used to seeing, but you wear it well, especially with your hair up.

    1. Thanks! I really liked wearing it - it is a different look, but one that I can see wearing again, for sure.

  13. This is a lovely dress, but golly not what I'm used to seeing you in. I don't see you as this prim buttoned up gal. Sorry sweetie. But hey, you don't need my approval to rock your own world x

    1. That's funny - I really don't see this as out of my regular style zone, so it's been interesting to see how others react to it. It's one of my favourite of my recently-acquired pieces!
