Woo, I'm back! Let the whirlwind begin! It is my 50th birthday on Monday, and the party starts NOW.
- Blouse - Violet + Claire, thrifted; last seen here in May for Fluevog Day
- Dress - Dolce & Gabbana, vintage 90s, thrifted; purchased here for $27.95
- Shoes - Mia, consignment; purchased here for $38.00
- Grape Ape coat (below) - H&M, thrifted; last worn here in March with shades of wine
I cringe at some of the 90s fashion coming around again, but I do love a good tube dress. This one is contoured (you can see it when it's on the hanger in the purchase link above) to the body, so it doesn't pull tight anywhere.
You can't really see it, but I wore a black floral clip in my hair.
However, I prefer the brighter colour of Splat! so I put Vaseline on the layers and tips of my hair to preserve the magenta - and it worked! Perfectly streaked hair with no roots showing. All ready for my party this weekend.
Yay! I love wearing the Grape Ape coat. Just right for the chilly morning and the cooler evenings.
- Chain bracelet - thrifted
- Hematite bracelet and ring - thrifted
- Earrings - Jacob
- Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
Today was my last full day - I'm taking tomorrow afternoon off to have lunch with L (he has a flex day), nap and then get ready for my party! I'm hosting a 2-hour cocktail party for friends, family and colleagues - wine, beer, finger food and good times. Nearly 60 people are coming! And yes, I will be wearing THE DRESS, in its Full Monty glory (sleeves AND peplum). I'm so ready.
I've been saving these spectacular leather pants for a Thursday to wow my WW group.
- Blouse - White House, Black Market, thrifted; purchased here for free (marked at $14.95 but "one" in a buy one/get one deal)
- Pants - Free People; purchased here in Portland for $129.00 US
- Shoes - Hispanitas; last seen here in August with green and trousers
- Sleeveless coat - Only, thrifted; last worn here (6th outfit) on the weekend for Winesday
"Ground control to Major Sheila" was a comment I got today about my Space Pants. I also noted that if they are Space Pants, then they come from Space Cows. Of course they do!
Outerwear. I can't believe it's October and I'm still not wearing a "real" coat most days.
Gold and black bling:
Bold pieces for a bold outfit.
- Necklace - Fossil, consignment
- Bracelet - Lia Sophia, thrifted
- Earrings - thrifted
A bunch of my coworkers came to my desk today with balloons and a present.
|"You are our sunshine" - AWWWW|
The card says "fancytastic" and over a dozen of my coworkers signed it and pooled and bought me a gift card from Fluevog.
My friends, I will be back on Saturday with another two-fer for you - this is also a long weekend, being Thanksgiving in Canada. I definitely have a lot to be thankful for.
Love both your outfits -- the space pants are amazing. You've inspired me with your hair colour -- I've decided to let my hair go grey, as I can't put up with having to dye it every 4 or 5 weeks. Once the grey grows out I'm going with an accent colour, perhaps a pinky purple on the ends. Or maybe turquoise.ReplyDelete
Thanks, Cynthia! Ha, I've inspired you to NOT colour your hair? Ha ha! I love the idea of going pastel tips once you've gone grey - I plan for something like that too, when I'm sick of dyeing my hair.Delete
Bday!!!!!!!!!!! I have a grape ape coat, as well!!!!!!! For real! Massive 80s thing---wonderful! Loving the Mia shoes and I have a small weakness for tube dresses...ReplyDelete
Thanks, Becky!! Totes, we are Grape Ape twins, woo!Delete
Happy Birthday, Sheila! From my perspective a decade down the road, you're a kid! Glad to see you acting like one. :-)ReplyDelete
Thank you, sweet Ally! I know, I'll always be a kid to some, and an old fart to other, hee hee!Delete
I love your silky teal top and leather pants! Very cool! I can't wait to see the photos from your party and your dress in all its glory! XXXReplyDelete
Thanks, Sasha! I was really happy with how that outfit turned out! I will try to get pictures at the party, but there will definitely be proper posed pics of The Dress.Delete
What a sweet birthday gift! I look forward to seeing what you get with the gift card :) I love the colours in that first outfit, but it's your second outfit that has me thinking! I have those gold skinny jeans I've been considering letting go and now I'm thinking I should maybe keep them a little longer, I have a teal top they would work perfectly with! I'll have to rethink and pull them out the sell/donate bag maybe!ReplyDelete
I work with some really awesome people, Mica. I'm very lucky in that. Thank you - what?! Haul those gold skinnies out and let me see you go disco!Delete
I wanted to sneak in a quick Happy Birthday before the festivities begin! You are going to rock your 50's, like you rocked your 40's. I also wanted to say thank you for being such an inspiration to me. Not just in fashion, but in relationship goals, self-care, proper (sane) fitness, and being true to oneself. Thank you for your awesomeness!!!ReplyDelete
Erin, so nice to see you! Thank you for the birthday wishes, and hell yes, I will be rocking the heck out of my 50s. Aw, that is so sweet of you. *hug*Delete
You are so READY to tear into your 50s. Heh. Space cows and butt-crack ahoy? Hahaha! LMAO. Of course. Best pants!ReplyDelete
Balled tights after a wear AND falling down? UNACCEPTABLE. But both great outfits of course. And what lovely coworkers/colleagues! I raise a glass to your birthday and the big cocktail party coming up with THEE dress. Can't wait to see the photos - if you are able to manage any!
Right? I am going to rip that bow off and roar into my 50s. Hee hee, I was channeling you while writing. Cheers back at you, m'dear! I will have photos, but maybe not at the party - we'll see...Delete
Fab outfits! I particularly loved your dress.
Between drop crotch and foot farts you've had a few clothing issues this week but you still managed to look gorgeous. I hope your party goes with a bang and I can't wait to see the dress in its full glory...
Brilliant birthday present!
Thank you, Veronica! I loved the dress too. Clothing issues drive me nuts - I will totally bail on pieces if they bother me to wear them. Thanks!Delete
Happy Birthday Monday!!!!!!!! Here’s to Fabulous Fifty, and Sheila who is superbly nifty!ReplyDelete
Cheers from an appreciative blog and fashion fan, Laurie
Thank you, Laurie! I really appreciate you reading my blog!Delete
Happy Birthday Shelia you always look amazing. The party will be a bang up success and you will be glorious my friend.ReplyDelete
Thank you, Donna! The party was awesome!Delete
Hey birthday girl, didn't you do well? All those lovely dollars to spend on shoes, wow! I've been waiting to see those gold trousers and my they didn't disappoint. I already dodged sideways to eBay to see if I can find some too. Yes, I copy your best buys and these are the best of late.ReplyDelete
I'm very honoured to have such generous people around me! Glad you liked the trousers - stalk them!Delete
It is definitely not a requirement to become more ladylike when you turn 50!! I just saw that your birthday was not until today, so I can actually wish you a MANY HAPPY RETURNS on the actual day. Looks like you did very well from your co-workers.ReplyDelete
I LOVE,LOVE,LOVE that purple and black outfit on you!! From head to toe, you look fantastic.
I totally agree - I fully intend to be only "klassy"! Thank you so much - I am awed by my coworkers' generosity. Thanks! That is my favourite of the two outfits as well.Delete
Oh Sheila !! happy, happy, super happy birthday to you my dear friend. I hope you have a blast in your cocktail party and dance that gorgeous new dress away ; )ReplyDelete
BTW I love both of these looks, that first dress is a classic you want to hold on to and the second combo is futuristic and marvellous at the same time.
Thank you, dear Lorena! It was awesome, hope you enjoy the post. I love the first look, myself.Delete
