Soaked in the Seventies

This coming weekend is Daylight Savings, and I'm dreading how dark it's going to start getting in the mornings. It was so gloomy this morning, I didn't know if my little point & shoot camera would be able to "see" anything.
It's pouring rain - that is what I am looking at, sitting there. Rain.

  • Blouse - Ralph Lauren, consignment; first worn here with mint green in August
  • Suede skirt - vintage 70s, gift from Elaine; last seen here in November 2015 with two-tone boots
  • Boots - Kope Tiam Coffee, Fluevog; last seen here in July with the last of the camo dress (which I kept)
  • Leather trenchcoat (below) - vintage 70s, thrifted

I liked this outfit, but due to the heaviness of the skirt (seriously, it's half an inch when folded!), I'm glad I went with a light blouse and a heel. The blouse keeps everything airy (hee, and I'm secretly showing all of my ink), and the boots balance out this tricky skirt length.

I adore the blouse - ruffles! So many ruffles in the chestal region.
Although the tights aren't a perfect match, they keep the continuous line of similar colours on the bottom. I love this skirt - Elaine wore it back in the day and gave it to me after it was shrunk when she had it cleaned.

More seventies, in my outerwear:
My most rain-proof outfit - I don't carry an umbrella very often because I like having a hand free (the other hand is busy holding my coffee - very important!). And I needed it - it poured today! I got soaked on the way to work.

The stuff:
Good thing I wear runners when I walk to work.

Familiar bling:
This belt is a comfort - it has a lovely weight to it.

  • Belt - gift from Mom
  • Earrings - Plum
  • Spinner ring - Twang & Pearl

I ran a bit late this morning, due to someone needing cuddle time (not me).
"Just one more cuddle?"
So cute! Look at that face!

  1. Hey Sheila...I enjoy your style of thrift and reclaimed finds. Nice work and who would of thought a trenchcoat is still fashionable??!!

    1. Thank you so much, Chris! Trenchcoats aren't fashionable?? Since when!?

  2. Your skirt is beautiful! :) How do you find suede holds up in the rain? Is it just as hardy as leather? I always thought of it as more of a fussy easily destroyed fabric! I have a pair of suede boots I've not worn in years as I'm too worried I'd ruin them!

    1. Thanks, Mica! Suede can be tricky in the rain, as it can get marked, but you can rub it down with a dry towel to lift up the suede fibres. The worst thing about getting suede wet (and I'm talking shoes here, specifically) is if the roads in your town are salted for ice/snow - that salt is hugely damaging and will mark up suede. Other than that, girl, wear those boots!!

  3. We did the Daylight Saving thing last weekend, and my body clock is still recovering. That skirt is fabulous, and it's just perfect with that ruffley blouse. xxx

  4. It's so dark, so very, very dark. And wet. And dreary. At least it's not freezing cold. And the upcoming time change - yes. Wake me in the spring. I love the colours and textures of this outfit - perfect for maintaining strength. Runners are of course a good idea. I tend to walk faster in the rain as well, as if higher speed will prevent soaking. Hahaha!
    Great outfit.

    1. And now today it's sunny! Go figure, eh? Yes, bring on spring! If you walk fast enough, you will not get wet. It's a fact.

  5. Sheila, we maybe need to keep a list of our potential swaps - this frilly shirt for my satin jacket for example. Let's see how this would work out in an ideal world eh?
So our time change means it's much lighter in the morning which really helps with my swimming, but we go home from work in the dark. Are you the other way around?

    1. Ooh, I don't know, Anna! So tempting...if you lived here, we could do it. :)

Our time change means it will be darker in the morning, but lighter in the evening (fall back 1 hour). Getting up in the dark is the worst. Leaving for work in the dark is awful. Walking home in the dark (it will start getting dark here around 4:30 soon) is horrid. No light at all. :(

  6. What a lovely blouse, Sheila. I love the muted colours in it. I know what you mean about the heaviness of suede skirts - I had one once and swore never again - plus it kept chafing my legs!

You do look fab in your outerwear get up - snug and cozy.

It's a shame about the time changes - it's darkness all the way now....

Vizzini has to be one of the cutest cats I've ever seen - such expressive eyes or is that the words you put in his mouth?

    Enjoy your weekend

  7. Wow, what a plethora of great finds and amazing styling. Love the patterned tights, and the Ports dress for 19.99, is amazing. Also love the Dots dress! Love the gold brogues, and wish those strappy sandlas were still comfy. I asked recently about adding a block heel and they said 140 dollars. Uhg! Keep kitty about from that hat! Love the glitter shoes, too!

    1. Ah, you meant to comment on the other post from the weekend. Okay! Thank you so much, Elle! I know, I wish those shoes were more comfy, but oh well. For $140, you could just buy new shoes...
