On Wed night, L and I went to see "Toy Story 3". I'm not ashamed to admit that I wept like a baby during the last 15 minutes. Knowing this, I took all my makeup off before we walked to town:
Also, it's still chilly out in the evenings, so I layered up.
Cardigan (Express, thrifted), t-shirt (don't recall - it's one of the crappy ones I wear around the house), skirt (Club Monaco, consignment), shoes (Stonefly, thrifted), belt (Plum), scarf (belt from a skirt).
For Canada Day, L and I went to his boss' barbecue. Of course, I had to look patriotic: As I've been to these BBQs in past years, I ate before I went (ha!). No, seriously, it's a good plan for me, since then it's easier to avoid things like cake and hot dogs and chocolate chip cookies. I ate a plain (overcooked) hamburger patty, a ton of tomato slices, a smidge of coleslaw, and three Coors Lights (hey, it's a necessary social lubricant).
I got a lot of compliments on the dress:I was hoping the sun would come out so that I could take the shrug off but no such luck.
Dress (Vero Moda), shrug (Debut), belt (Plum), shoes (Tommy Hilfiger, consignment), purse (Ollie & Nic).
Friday, I had to work (gotta save up my vacation days), but it was totally dead. All my US colleagues were out of the office, as were my US clients. Half my department was empty. I planned to go shopping after work, so I wore my "shopping uniform": easy to slip on/off dress, slip-on shoes, non-bulky jacket (yeah, still not sunny), and minimal jewelry.
Dress (Jacob, gift from Elaine), jacket (Ann Taylor Loft), shoes (Kenneth Cole Reaction, gift from Cat), cuff (old).
Ruth and I headed off to the mall for a long lunch - I got a pair of shoes. I had poor luck shopping after work, though. A woman nabbed a leopard sheath dress with a bigass zipper right out from under my nose (it did look fabulous on her, I had to grudgingly concede), but I found a skirt and a couple pieces of jewelry at Plum. I headed off to Dots with my "extra 50% off" coupon, but I didn't find anything I liked. I ended up with a new stock Noa Noa skirt.
I'm loving all the fall stuff coming in - ha! Is that wrong? We haven't even gotten summer yet, and I'm looking at autumn!
I'm so glad that I'm not the only one that had to work! I bus to work, and most days, since I take a rather major route, it's standing room only. Yesterday, there were 3 people! Even the one coworker that was in the office with me wasn't feeling the work day... I caught him streaming the soccer game in the morning!
ReplyDeleteI like eating before I go to a picnic thing... it's not a portion control thing for me, I'm just allergic to, as my fiance puts it, anything good. But I find that I kind of prefer it... it's a good way to sample a few things that look good, and easily pass on the "staples" that I have no interest in, but tend to be the focus of barbecues. Hot dogs are possibly the one thing I'm allergic to (MSG) that I don't mind not eating!
I need to see that movie this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI love the polka dot dress! Much better remix than the ketchup/mustard combo from awhile back.
ReplyDeleteI love the last dress too, the print is fantastic.
I'm already looking at coats for winter. My summer and spring fashion has really evolved but my winter wear needs help.
Your barbecue outfit is a knockout! Absolutely gorgeous- and what's more, you look comfortable in it. There is a certain radiance that comes through when you feel as good as you look. (and by 'you', I mean the 'universal you')
ReplyDeleteAnyway, you look fantastic, (as always) and I hope you have/had a great weekend and Canada Day, respectively.
(and I SO wish our Dots here in the States carried the same type of stock as Canadian Dots.
Ours seem to have dead stock from the Dollar Store... )
Oooh, I love all 3 outfits -- can't even pick which is best. Happy Canada Day!
ReplyDeleteCoors light rocks!
ReplyDeleteLoving the 2 bold prints - if you ever go off either be sure to pop them in an envelope to me ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love the Canada day dress! The espadrilles especially are lovely, and it's funny I like them because I don't usually - I think you handled them perfectly here. Hope your weekend was great! xo
ReplyDeleteI was wondering where you had gone.... ;)
ReplyDeleteOMG you are so organized, I do the total opposite.
If I know I am going to pasta night I will not eat the entire day so I can stock up at night. Yes, I know I have to change my habits.
That polka dot dress you wore to the picnic is fabulous as is your "shopping" uniform... in both you look so fresh and lively...
Fabulous Canada Day outfit, looks gorgeous on you! I went to Van, spontaneously right from work, and so spent Canada Day in my workout pants that were in my backpack and a red Olympics team t-shirt borrowed from J, hee. Your outfit is a little nicer lol.
ReplyDeleteI also had to work Friday...it was a ghost town!
Autumn is my favorite shopping season. Must be a throwback to a "back to school" shopping spree.
ReplyDeleteWonderful BBQ dress! Too bad about the sun though. Maybe next year.
Cara, doesn't it suck? I didn't get a lot done. That's another aspect of "pre-eating", especially if one has allergies.
ReplyDeleteWendy, it's so good.
Thanks, Megan! I almost never wear coats (I use my parka for walking to and from work most days), but yeah, there are some nice things in stores already!
Thanks, Rita! Yes, it is a totally comfy dress. Our Dots is a very different type of store.
Thanks, Kristen!
Mindful, ya think? I just drank it because it was light. Blah.
Thanks, Tat! Ha, I will!
Julia, thanks!
Lorena, I have to be organized...I don't ever want to be so heavy again. Ooh, I never "starve" myself anymore - not good. Thanks so much!
Thanks, Sherylyn! It sounds like you had a great trip!
Jen, me too, same reason - it's so fresh and a new beginning. Thanks!
Great Canada Day outfit! And I applaud your pre-eating plan. I've started drinking shandys to help keep my alcohol calories down at parties - Crystal Lite lemonade mixed with lite beer.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tina! I shared my plan with my WW group. Ooh, great idea for a shandy!
