Matching Back and Red Boots in July

I awoke to cloudy skies and rain - a welcome sight, smell and sound! We'll be back to sunshine soon enough, but it was the perfect weather to wear boots in July.
Red shoes/boots have always been a basic for me, going back to my childhood/teenhood. They go with everything!

  • Top - Hoss, consignment; last seen here in June 2022 with this same skirt
  • Skirt - Alberta Ferretti, thrifted; last worn here in June 2023 with Vet Armour
  • Boots - Jyoti Powerhouse, Fluevog; last seen here in May with my disco bubble cocoon
  • Leather blazer - Danier Leather, thrifted; last worn here in April

Ghost Castle.
The Garry Oaks are thickly leaved right now and full of crows.

I was surprised that I hadn't worn this top in two years(!) and subsequently had thoughts of putting it into Limbo.
After all, the last time I wore it, it was this same top and bottom. Was it time to let it go, if it's not inspiring me?

But then I had a good look back at all the OTHER ways I'd worn it, and reconsidered. It's a really good quality top - 100% silk, except for the brown sleeves, which are cotton/viscose knit.
Then I eyed the skirt - I am always casting a critical gaze - but it's just too special. So I am keeping them both.

And when will I ever find another two pieces that match in the back like this?
Colleague Camille admired the outfit from the front and shouted with shock when I turned around. I KNOW, right?!

The best part about this skirt - truly MASSIVE pockets.
My hands and fingers are fully splayed inside here, and note that my hands are in past my wrists!

This is an inside-out pic from when I bought it (for $14.95 - for Alberta Ferretti! Amazing!) to show you how the front pockets are constructed.
It's one huge piece from seam to seam and it's supported at the top by being sewn into the waistband. There is a centre seam, top to bottom - it is two separate pockets. And you can't even tell they are there - I loaded them with my phone, sticky notes and a pen today and my skirt lay flat. Quality!

Incognito.
I did not wear my leather coat unbuttoned but if I did I would be tres chic!

My Unimpressed Monday face.
Red leather armour? Whatever gave you that idea?

Accoutrements and stuff:
It wasn't raining hard enough to tuck my hair into the beret, so I ended up with wavy ends. I thought fondly of bestie Janet when I put the gold/cream bug scarf on - it was a wedding shower present!

  • Scarf - Smoking Lily, 1996, gift from Janet
  • Beret - consignment

The heels on these boots are pretty good - I wouldn't walk too far in them, but I gave a tour of the office and they were fine.

Red bling:
My red collection is coming along nicely. The jasper ring is a little big on me, but it was cold in the AC today.

  • Bird/eelskin bracelet - vintage 80s, consignment
  • Red/marcasite bracelet - vintage, vintage mall
  • Silver/jasper ring - thrifted; purchased here for $9.50
  • Silver/enamel ring - consignment, Sidney
  • Earrings - Tania Gleave, Vancouver

  1. Ditto Hena's comment. With the red jacket unbuttoned your Incognito look is absolutely trés chic and looks like you belong in the French Latin Quarter somewhere along the Seine! I love summer weather when it is warm and sunny with a bit of a breeze, yet too many days like that saps my energy so a day every so often of cooler temps and even some rain is always welcome.

I had a treat today going shopping with my 11 3/4 year old granddaughter. She has an amazing sense of style (as do both her parents) and she likes to take her time (as do I) so we were perfect shopping buddies. She found two outfits and I found two items; success for all!

  2. I hear you, red boots are a classic. I have a pointy pair myself, but my heels are not as cool as yours. Those boots are gorgeous and the unique heel really gives them that something extra. I love how you accessorized with red as well. Beautiful earrings and beret. The red lipstick suits you so well!!
The red leather blazer is stunning and I do like the skirt. The blouse is very pretty with that delicate floral print and it matches well with the scarf. I love how you mixed floral print with leather. Tres chic outfit!

  3. Yes to red boots in July! Or any month of the year, really!
I'm loving all the pops of red in your outfit, and of course that skirt and top couldn't be better matched. xxx
