I was so tickled to find another one, I had to incorporate it into an outfit immediately!
Red is just a gimme - so obvious! - but there are so many shades of red. I just needed it to go - it doesn't have to match exactly.
This is a vintage bodysuit - I chose it not just for the colour, but because of the low stance of the skirt.
I took in the sides of it with my handy-dandy Mad Craft Skills!
Also known as a safety-pin. I did a little fold on each side, creating a single pleat on the front near the hips.
I layered this wide belt over the waist to hide my handiwork.
And voila! I'm good to go! I see a lot of turquoise/teal in the iridescent "scales," especially when I'm looking down at myself, so I pulled that out in my accessories.
My colleagues loved it. "Oooh!" exclaimed Melissa.

- Scarf - Lanvin, vintage, thrifted; purchased here for $6.95
- Belt - Brave Belts, thrifted
The platform sandals are one of my rare retail buys - I've had them for 6 years and have worn them close to 25 times. So comfy and classic, even though they have a small window of wearability.
Silver and turquoise bling:
Turquoise bits add contrast and interest to the overall look.- Silver/stones bracelet - Salt Spring Island, gift from L
- Silver/malachite bangle - thrifted, Sidney
- Silver/turquoise earrings - thrifted
- Turquoise/silver pendant - Karen's
- Silver/turquoise ring - Glee
- Big silver/turquoise ring - Karen's
This outfit is beautiful and you look so pretty!
ReplyDeleteOf course I guessed it wouldn't be long before we'd get to see the Dragon Scale skirt :-) It's absolutely fabulous and so are your handy dandy skills! Love that you picked turquoise for your accessories! xxx
ReplyDeleteI do like this red maxi dragon scale skirt. The red bodysuit is a great choice with the skirt. I love how you used safety pins. I misplaced mine somewhere and been looking for them around the house. They do come in handy with styling. The turquoise details on the skirt are lovely as well, and you matched them nicely with your accessories.
ReplyDeleteYou look fantastic in this and it's great you have the kind of colleagues who take notice of what you wear to work. I'm sure it makes it more fun for you to dress.
Well I'll be darned but truly shouldn't be surprised! The skirt looks fabulous on, especially with the rest of the styling. "Oh thee of little faith" I can hear you saying… You wear this with panache and am almost thinking it could have been one of your outfits for the magazine shoot.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Laurie
Love the scaly skirt. I don't think I've seen anything quite like it! Mermaid vibes!
