Dotty Redo With Blue

A Jammy Dress was just what I needed today as the temps soared to 31.
I wanted to wear this dress again this season, so all I needed was a pair of shoes (and a few accessories) and I was good to go.

  • Dress - Nanette Lepore, consignment; first seen here in June for a rainy walk with Mom at Beaver Lake
  • Shoes - Big Presence Desmond, Fluevog; last worn here in June with rainbow pride

The last time I wore this dress, it was a very rainy day and I was covered up under a leather trenchcoat.
I wasn't that happy with the dress then - the green leather belt I wore with it didn't sit right (it's since been moved into the giveaway pile).

So I wanted to give it another chance and redo it with a different pop of colour.
Black and white dottiness clamours for a bright solid, don't you think?

Red would be good, as would yellow, but I chose bright blue for my redo.
I was much happier with the dress this time around. I have a full vintage slip as well as long-line cotton shorts on under this.

Masked up.
And no matter where this dress ends up (the giveaway pile or my closet), it will live on for at least five years in my new government photo ID, as I renewed it today.

No smiling allowed, but I can "smize" (smile with my eyes).
I was grateful for the hat on the way home.

The stuff:
Such classic shoes.

Not shown:
  • Hat - Heart's Content
  • Mask - by Cat

Blue bling:
I have about 5 blue belts, but I can't resist this ginormous rose buckle.

  • Belt  - Rohesia Belt, Fluevog; last worn here in April
  • Eelskin bangle - vintage 80s, mine, donated, thrifted
  • Bangle - vintage, Lazy Susan's
  • Dome ring - Kenneth Jay Lane, consignment, Powell River
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Earrings - local

  1. Oh, I do hope that dress doesn't end up in the giveaway pile for a long time! But, then, next to stripes and florals, I do love a polka dot! That ginormous blue rose belt really accentuates your small waistline! The shoes are such a fun statement, too! Don't you hate not being able to smile for your photo ID...I look like a grumpy old lady who should be behind bars!!!

      Agreed, let us smile!

  2. This dress is a stunner and here’s hoping you keep it for awhile to try out with other colored belts and shoes. I agree with Marsha’s comment about the belt accentuating your petite waistline, and I think the dress also highlights your figure.

By any chance do you have a brand name for your cotton under shorts? I have under shorts but they are not cotton and are not useful to wear in the heat!

Also, not sure if I mentioned previously, I think your recent hair cut is spunky and lively; quite flattering to your face.

Stay cool, enjoy the warmth to the extent possible! Our high heat (90+) and poor air quality have abated for now and I am hoping that when the heat returns the air quality will at least remain acceptable.
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. Thanks so much, Laurie - we shall see about the dress. I do love a fit-and-flare silhouette, but just not sure that this specific dress is really me.

No, sorry - I thrifted them (for $1.95!) and the tags had been cut out. They are a cotton knit with a touch of spandex.

Aw, thank you! I'm loving all the layers in it.

Thank you, my friend! It's up to 31 (feels like 37 today), which is 90+, close to 100! At least the air quality is good on the water!

  4. I'm totally dotty about that dotty dress, Sheila! Blue was a great choice of colour to accessorize it with, and that belt is an absolute stunner. I look like someone on the most wanted list In my latest photo ID! I even forgot to "smize" as I was squinting at the screen since I needed to take my glasses off :-) xxx

    1. I'll probably do yellow or red next with it, Ann. I have no idea what my pic will look like - I have to wait for my ID! I also had to remove my glasses.

    2. Here in New York I, too, had to remove my glasses for my newest license photo. Made it difficult to see where/what I was supposed to be looking. No wonder my photo looks a bit off! ;)

  7. This is such a pretty dress and it sounds like the perfect piece for such a hot day - good sun coverage with those sleeves too for your shoulders! I'm surprised it's so hot for you after you had such a cold start to summer! and of course I love the blue with it :)

    1. I know, it feels like summer was such a long time coming. I hope the weather stays warm well into September, at least!

      Thanks, Mica!

  8. Black and white dottiness just beggs for a bright solid, I totally agree.
I love this dress. It is so feminine. And the blue additions are great. That hat just makes it all the more glamourous.
