Cat-Bombed, Houndstooth and Tuxedo Shirt Flashback

Ah, Monday. I didn't feel like making much of an effort today, so I shamelessly copied an older version of this outfit.
Nothing wrong with that! When you find a good combination, you stick with it.

  • Leather cropped jacket - Danier Couture, consignment; last worn here in October 2021 with velour pleats
  • Tuxedo blouse - no label, consignment; last seen here in November 2020 layered under a pink sweater
  • Skirt - Talbots, consignment; purchased here for $29.65
  • Shoes - Queen of Prussia Louise, Fluevog; last worn here in March 2021 with pink and a brown cord suit
  • Coat (below) - Donna Karan, consignment; last seen here a couple of weeks ago

This outfit is a duplicate of this one from October 2017 - same blouse, jacket and shoes, but a different skirt.
"We need to talk."

We'll do a little Flashback of the blouse shortly and there's a pic of that linked outfit, if clicking a link is just too much for a Monday (I get it).

First wearing of this new-to-me houndstooth skirt...and I fell on the way to work and ripped the stitching at the slit. A good six inches will need to be stitched up again.
"Not about your skirt, Woman! About me!"

I'm fine (thanks for asking!), but will probably have a bruise on my hip. I just lost my balance and down I went. I'm usually more embarrassed than damaged when I fall (which I do frequently - Mom and I are alike in this!), and tend to collapse slowly in a dramatic swoon. I did manage to maintain my coffee mug upright and did not spill a drop!
"But you spilled my kitty treats and one went under here."

Anyway, I'll need to do a bit of stitching on the skirt to restore it to its proper slit-itude.

Masked up:
"I insist you dig the missing treat out!"

I'd intended on doing gold jewelry to match the buttons on the skirt, but the mask is the only thing left from that former decision.

Outerwear:
"I'm waiting..."

I'm tired of being cold all the time. This is a warm snuggly coat.

Accoutrements:
I'd forgotten about this lovely burnout velvet burgundy scarf (thrifted many years ago).

  • Scarf - thrifted
  • Gloves - Parkhurst
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
I wear these shoes very infrequently these days - I tend to reach for lower heels. However, it's still dead in the office and I don't need to walk around that much.

Simple bling:
Once I chose this crystal starburst brooch, I went with black/silver accessories.

  • Brooch - c. 1999, Eaton's
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Silver/onyx ring - Toccara, vintage fair
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall

And Vizzini did get the extra treat that had skittered under our hall bench...from L, long before he cat-bombed me in these pics and was begging me for another! Sneaky little monster!

Flashback: Stretch Silk Tux Shirt

I bought this stretch woven silk blouse here in September 2017, when L and I returned from a big three-city vacation. I always take an extra day or two after being away to recover, blog and indulge in a little Mental Health shop.

I'd forgotten that I'd bought this at My Sister's Closet (now gone, sad), and I think I've been listing it as a thrifted item for a couple of years. Oops.
It's a classic shirt, with the buttons hiding behind a placket and tux ruffles down the front (I have a strategic safety-pin mid-chest). The cuffs are long and flip back.

The previous owner had cut every single tag out of it, but it has that slightly dusty look of silk, plus a bit of stretch.
It's always fit me perfectly, and it washes well, so it's been a stalwart for going on five years. I paid $19.98 for it.

I wore it right away in October 2017, with my Emporio Armani blazer (Flashbacked here).
Those were strange trousers that didn't last long with me, but I loved this entire outfit - I felt like a million bucks in it. I gave those too-tight gold Fluevog shoes to Cat a couple of years ago.

Does this look familiar? I also wore this in October 2017, and it was my inspiration for today's look.
I loved that vintage German wool skirt, but it was ravaged by moths, and full of holes.

Most of my blouses are layered under other things, like dresses, as seen here in January 2019.
I let go of that velvet dress this past year - it had no stretch, and it just didn't feel like me anymore. I still have the boots (Flashback here).

A monochromatic look from November 2019.
Those are "house" pants now, but I still have the shoes (Flashback here) and the cardigan, which I don't wear that often (but still Flashbacked, here).

I did just wear this brocade blazer last week, though. And I think that skirt and those shoes are overdue for a wearing.
I wore this in December 2019.

And this is the last time I featured this blouse, in November 2020, layered under a pink mohair sweater (which is also in the giveaway pile).
Same boots as above, and that skirt was another attempt to find the Perfect Houndstooth Skirt (the pattern was too small for my taste - it looks grey here). That skirt's in the giveaway pile too!

Mathy stuff: I thought I'd worn this blouse a lot more than I had! Today's look is only the 7th outfit I've done with it, which brings us to a respectable $2.85 per wear. It's still holding up well (check the armpits!), so I know I can do better than that.

What's your favourite outfit? What do you think I should wear with this blouse? Can a cat have too many kitty treats?

  1. Some beautiful outfits here. My favorite is that Armani blazer and paisley pants outfit. You look amazing in that look.

  2. Ouch! I hope you're okay after your fall, I did the same a fortnight ago but managed to pick myself up before anybody noticed. It was a regular thing before my hip replacement.
That blouse is lovely especially layered beneath the fuzzy pink mohair.
A cat can never have enough treats - Stephen's new discovery is cat soup, he's addicted! Don't tell Vizzini, you'll never get a moment's peace! xxx

    1. Just a few bruises, thanks, Vix! I hate it when I fall and people are around!

Thank you! Maybe I'll need to keep that sweater...

What is cat soup?? I need to know!

  3. Hi Sheila, I hope your okay after your unfortunate fall, ripping a new Skirt is always devastating but I’m sure that your more than capable to repair it. The new houndstooth skirt is very nice and I like the style of the hemline.
I also like your other houndstooth skirt with the slit up the front, very sleek, shame that your giving it away as it looks good on you.

    1. Oh, I'm fine, thanks, Dan. The skirt can be hand-stitched, and is not ruined at all. Eh, the other skirt is feeling too tight and too short.

  4. That's a fantastic silk blouse, great to see a flashback with it. This outfit looks great on you. It's feminine but the rock jacket gives this combo a bit of a 'bad girl' vibe that I love. The shoes are fabulous. The houndstooth skirt is a beauty, I hope you'll be able to stitch it back again. All in all, a great look. This outfit formula is one to remember!

    1. Thanks so much, Ivana - I really thought I'd worn it more, though! Yes, that's more of the vibe I want these days - feminine but "bad girl." Perfectly described!

I just need to get off my butt and stitch the skirt up! Thanks!

  5. I have to admit that I'm often rewearing one of my weekend outfits on a Monday, both to preserve some of the weekend's feel-good vibes as due to lack of inspiration! And yours is such a delicious outfit so why not repeat it. Oops about your fall, I hope you didn't hurt yourself too much?
I loved the shirt's wee flashback. That colour is absolutely divine. Such a shame about the moth-eaten vintage skirt, though.
Vizzini's photobombing is hilarious. Bess's latest thing is helping me when I'm photographing my finds, and then of course some part of her's in the photos too. I've already earmarked a Bess photo for you to enjoy in my next post! xxx

    1. I have done that in the past, especially after a very hectic weekend - I'll just rewear one of my weekend outfits to work on the Monday.

Thanks, Ann - I'm fine, just a small scrape on one shin and some aches and bruises.

Thank you! I know, I miss that skirt - I'm on the lookout for a decent replacement.

He is so funny - and I didn't realize he was there until I uploaded the pictures! Aw, that is sweet that Bess "helps". :)

  6. A different skirt makes a different outfit in my book.
    Well done.

  7. Sorry about your fall! Hope you're able to fix the skirt and you don't bruise too badly! I'm forever clumsy too, it's part of the reason I'm so plagued with knee problems - whenever I fall or I'm in an accident I seem to go knee first, haha!

This blouse is really nice on you and I totally get being inspired by a previous outfit and just changing a few pieces - that's pretty much all I do for getting dressed lately as life has been so very hectic!

    1. I'm heartened by the number of fellow bloggers who fall like me! Thanks, Mica - although I'm so sorry that this has been a contributor to your knee issues. I tend to go down on my hip, but I also have a knee that is accident prone.

Thank you - some days, you just don't have the energy.

  8. It's a good thing you don't need stiching! Lol. And I had to laugh at that you didn't spoil any coffee on your outfit! That's so much more important, lol. That skirt is fabulous, I've always loved pied de poule print.

    1. I know, I'm lucky. I'm terrified I'll break a hip or my wrist one of these days. I was impressed that my coffee remained level as I sunk to the ground.

      Thanks, Nancy!

  9. I love all those looks! I need to put more crimson into my fashion palette! It's hard to find the exact shade! Those boots are also to die for!

  10. I'm so sorry to hear about your spill! Glad you're ok and the skirt is a relatively easy fix.

According to Sylvester, you can NEVER have too many kitty treats, so I'm sure that Vizzini and he are in agreement.

    1. Aside from a scrape on my calf and a few bruises, I'm fine - and I already repaired the skirt's rip.

Lol, yes, Vizzini would eat the entire bag. You should have seen him mow through them when I dropped it once!

  11. Thoroughly love this outfit! The more burgundy and black - be they worn solo or as a tag-team - the merrier in my books. Great choice of hosiery here, too - it works awesomely with the classic houndstooth skirt.

I'm so sorry you took a tumble, my sweet friend. Fingers crossed that you don't feel too rough in the aftermath and that any bruises you may have sustained vanish in a flash (and also, of course, that no more trips or falls come your way anytime soon!).

    1. Thank you so much, Autumn! I love these colours too.

Oh, I'm fine - I'm a bit of a tippy person who falls regularly, unfortunately.
