Bold Yellow, and Coat Closet Update

I'm going to make an effort to inject colour into my November outfits, to combat the gloom.
Yeah, like that! That kind of gloom! Would you believe I'm wearing bright canary yellow? I'm deliberately invoking Colour Therapy to keep myself from sliding into the doldrums, something I'm apt to do when it's dark all the time.

  • Dress - Lida Baday, vintage 90s, vintage fair; last worn here in January with black limbs
  • Boots - Woodland East End, Fluevog; last seen here in June for the Training Day of Indolence
  • Loomed Lady coat (below) - vintage 60s, thrifted; last worn here in September

I have had this dress for a few years and it never fails to cheer me.
The few people I saw in my office loved all this brightness. Wearing bright colours helps other people feel better too!

I made it more fall-ish by wearing this scarf tied loosely at the neck, and playing with navy blue and brown in my accessories.
I liked it with these boots - they have yellow on the sides.

I have a vintage cami on under this for a little extra warmth.
It was fine for the office, but I was chilled when I left work - I found myself wishing for thicker tights and a layered top underneath as I lugged groceries home in the rain.

Masked up.
I had to take the scarf off and wear it on my head on the way home to keep me dry.

Outerwear. I hate carrying an umbrella, and should have worn a hat. But it was sunny in the morning!
I'm in denial of winter coming. I ended up tying the scarf in the Movie Star Wrap to keep my hair dry (it works really well).

Accoutrements:
I'm making an effort to wear more of my silk scarves - they are amazing this time of year for a little extra warmth.

  • Scarf - Forele, vintage, consignment
  • Mask - Lazy Susan's
  • Gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
These are fabulously comfortable, and fulfill my punk inclinations (eeee, buckles!).  The plaid part is suede.

Blue and brown bling:
Old favourites.

  • Blue eelskin bangle - mine from the 80s, donated, thrifted recently
  • Brown eelskin bangle - Italy, gift from Mom & Dad, c. 1987
  • Earrings - LA Express, 1994
  • Amber ring - c. 1996
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

I was rather chilly in the Loomed Lady today, so I had to face it - it's time to bring out the warmer coats. She is now packed away, along with a few other thin coats.

This is my side of the full coat closet; L gets the other half, with us both trying to take over the centre with vintage things.
I kept out a few colourful and lighter-weight coats, and welcomed back some of my favourite winter ones. I have about 26 regularly worn coats here, including both of my wool capes. You can see a few of my vintage things on the right: my chartreuse velvet and satin cape, my vintage mink, my Valentino suit jacket.

Have you switched over to winter outerwear yet?

  1. Good idea. Bright colors like yellow help us stay sunny when the season turns gloomy.

  2. Bright colors to combat the lack of morning light or to ease a gray day, YES! As for wearing winter outerwear yet, yup, I’ve had a short reversible thin down jacket out for two weeks. It comes in handy for early morning walks, before the day has warmed up some 10-20 degrees. I’ve also bean wearing an assortment of hats, depending upon how chilly the day, and fleece gloves.

I admire the variety of coat colors!

    1. Right, Laurie? The colour really gives me a psychological lift. The weather here is so erratic at this time of year, it's easy to guess wrong with outerwear! I have a jacket like yours that I wear on my Mental Health Walks and love it.

I love all the colours of the coats too. :)

  3. I love the scarf with the bright yellow dress - it is always such a cheerful colour to wear! I need to wear it more often! :)

We had such a hot spring I was thinking we were into summer so early but it's back to normal spring temps this week - so I still get the opportunity to lightly layer up some outfits which is nice!

    1. Thanks, Mica! I love yellow - it might be my favourite colour, but so hard to choose!

Glad you can still fit in some layered outfits!

  4. I definitely need colour to get me through these dark days too, and what better colour to get things started than sunshiny yellow, especially when it comes in the form of that gorgeous dress combined with those amazing boots! I'm hearing you on the tights, I've been wearing my opaques for about two weeks now. I've been exchanging some of my coats for warmer ones too. Lovely to see your Winter coat collection and it warms my heart to know that you've got at least as many as me! xxx

    1. It's amazing what a difference it can make, isn't it, Ann? Yellow is the best for making me feel cheery. I have a massive collection of tights and I like reintroducing them to my fall/winter wardrobe. Yes, I have a lot of coats - no guilt there!

  6. When I was younger I didn't like yellow clothing at all. Somewhere along the line my tastes changed and I now love, love, love yellow! All shades. It immediately brightens my mood to see yellow things. In clothing, furniture, as an accent colour, whatever. Your dress is stupendously cheerful and your boots are perfect with it.

    1. I have always liked it, but I loathed pink! And same thing - I came around and now I love pink, Nana. Yes, yellow is such a big mood-booster, isn't it? My house is painted yellow for that reason. Thank you!

  7. Keep up the good work with wearing bright colours. You will not only cheer up yourself but the people around you too.
As for coats...I really have to get rid of one when I buy another one. The wardrobe cannot handle more coats. And they are so important.

    1. I so agree, Greetje! I get a lot of positive reactions when I wear a lot of colour. I'm lucky that we have a big amount of storage in our condo. I used to only have a few coats, but my friend asked to see what outerwear I was putting with my outfits and then I really stepped up my game - I blame Yvonne for all the coats, ha ha!

  8. You are a ray of sunshine in that glorious yellow - a spot of colour is welcome indeed at this grey time of year.

  9. You are lucky to have that many heavier coats. I can never find just the right coat so I always end up my old (ugly) black and grey swing coat. I really need to find a good one! Love the yellow!

  10. Very true regarding the ripple effect of wearing punchy, upbeat hues. In this era of (often, though not always) black and muted hued athleisurewear, I feel this meaningful component of fashion as a whole is far too often forgotten and/or undervalued. Your head-turningly terrific yellow frock is a shining of example of why, if brights are one's jam, it benefits both the wearer themselves and the general public to rock vibrant colours during the exceedingly grey days of late fall and winter.

  11. Totally agree about the Colour Therapy and love the way you bring joy wearing Yellow, so fabulous colour and You Rock It!
Love the punk-ish boots with the yellow plaid, wow, this is delightfully matchy!
Sorry that the Loomed Lady was not warm enough. I've been in denial of winter coming too, wearing some lightweight coats until I've almost freezed myself, but it's damn coats season actually!. I admire your magnificent collection: so many fab pieces!
    besos

  12. I do so love that yellow dress on you, and those plaid accented Fluevogs are the perfect footwear with it. A friend who buys a lot of Fluevogs keeps sending me a photo of those boots saying that they are definitely my style, which they are, and I love them, but alas, Fluevogs just aren't made for my feet (which at least keeps me from being poor).
