Forgetful: Optic Jammy Dress and Barbie Shoes

I was back to work today, after four days off. I'm appreciating the quieter office now, and guessing that within the next few months most of my office colleagues will return, and my workload will get bigger. Much bigger.
And hopefully, that will mean full-time hours again at some point. For now, though, I'm going to enjoy this reprieve - it feels like more of a treat that the end is in sight! I know that I'll look back at this year/14 months and miss this quiet time.

  • Dress - Tahari, consignment; last worn here in August 2020 with mango and lavender shoes
  • Shoes - Arnold Churgin, thrifted; last seen here a few weeks ago with peplums and patchwork
  • Cerulean coat (below) - no label, vintage, thrifted; last worn here in October 2020

As you probably guessed, I completely whiffed on taking my stair picture this morning. 6:30am is a terrible time to get up!
Knowing I might be a little scatterbrained, I picked two jammy dresses to wear for work this week, this being the first one.

I'm a big fan of this optic "iris" print and the stripes of neon green around the zipper, on the kick-pleat and down both side seams.
The neckline is edged in bright orange. I like all this colour!

Masked up.
I liked how my pink shoes went with the dress - they match its intensity of hue, even though there is no pink in the dress.

Outerwear - yeah, spring's weather is all over the place.
A silk scarf, wool jacket and gloves?

You bet.
Again, I love the vibrant colour of this unlined vintage coat. That cerulean blue is actually much more aqua, but never photographs right.

Outerwear stuff:
My Lanvin scarf matched the colours in the dress almost perfectly.

  • Silk scarf - Lanvin, vintage 80s, vintage mall
  • Leather/wool gloves - consignment
  • Mask - by Cat

The stuff:
Classic Barbie shoes. So pink!

Bold bling:
I took my silicon bangle off while walking to work (it was awkward with my gloves), then forgot about it in my coat pocket until I was about to leave. I'm getting forgetful these days! First no stair picture, and then not wearing my bracelet all day! Tsk, Sheila!

  • Silicon bracelet - Materia Design, thrifted
  • Earrings - handmade, gift from Sherri
  • Turquoise ring - local
  • Silver/lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

I missed out on freaking out a couple of my coworkers - I like to squish the bracelet to shock people.
It's silicon - it's soft!

Ah, thank goodness for my day off tomorrow. I need a nap!

  2. Smiling from your words and photos :-) as only you could put together such a lively, gorgeous outfit (yes, I know, you planned it the night before, but still!) despite the respite from work and the early rising hour! I am going to name this approach the Tao of Sheila!

Everything about this outfit, including shoes and coat and accessories, is sheer delight from colors to style to how you wear each piece and perfect spring colors.

    1. *oops, helps to proofread before posting ;-) Should have been "sheer delight from the perfect spring colors" instead of adding it again at the end!

    2. Oh, that's so kind of you, my dear! Thank you. I find it very therapeutic to pick out my outfit the night before, so that I don't have to stress about it in the morning.

  3. Your jammy dress is fabulous. I love the patter, the colour and the cut. The pink Barbie shoes do a great job matching the intense colours of this dress (I do love bright and neon colours) even if there is no pink in the dress, it still matches so well with the shoes. The blue jacket /coat is gorgeous too and I like how you accessorized with the scarf. The silicone bracelet looks like a fun accessory. I'm sure you'll remember it again some other time, maybe that day it just wasn't meant to be.

    1. Thanks so much, Ivana! I love the colours and the cut is so good. I am glad you like the shoes with it - it works, right?

I like to get a wearing in of this coat if I can - I needed the scarf, as the wool of the coat is scratchy. I laughed when I found the bracelet in my pocket at the end of the day!

    2. Yes, wool can be a bit uncomfortable. Clever to wear a scarf with this wool coat. I sometimes get mild allergies or a skin rash if wool gets in touch with my skin directly. I'm often adjusting my wool beanies to avoid direct contact with my forehead so I sometimes wear them as a beret of sorts. However, when it is a wool blend, it doesn't seem to bother my skin at all- isn't that funny?

  4. Is it perhaps the slower pace of life which is making us forgetful? I am wondering, as I've noticed an unprecedented forgetfulness on my part lately! I've just found out I will be having another month of 3-day working weeks ahead of me. Part of me is relieved, although I know it will only get harder to go back to full-time! Just thinking of this is giving me palpitations, so I really needed all that colour in your outfit to make me feel sane again. Jammy or not, that dress's print is fabulous, and I love how you added pink in the mix with your shoes. That bracelet really is something else. I didn't realize just how squishy it was! xxx

    1. Maybe, Ann! Maybe my brain, which is used to a huge emotional load of juggling a million things at once, has started to atrophy. I haven't heard any changes from my company yet - but I'm starting to mentally prepare myself for all the things I'm going to have to restart. I have gotten used to a much slower pace, and it's going to ramp up quickly.

I'm also using colour to help perk me up and make me feel better. I totally get that!

Thank you, my dear! Isn't the bracelet fun?

  5. The print on your dress is such fun and the choice of the Barbie pink shoes with it, a great combination.
How fab is that squidgy bangle? I've never seen the like before!
6.30am is late for me (and Stephen!) xxx

Ugh, that's SO EARLY. I would prefer getting up at 9:30am and going to bed around 1am.

  6. Good evening Sheila, I remember this dress! It may be a "jammy" dress but it is so wonderful. Our weather is so changeable I had a jammy dress on then had to change it was so cold. I love the coat too and that turquoise ring she sighs lol anyway you look fab as always. Take care Shazxx

  7. This is such a stylish jammy dress Sheila! It looks so good on you and I really like the barbie pink heels with it! :)

I have enjoyed my work from home time but I'm so eager to be back in the office more regularly - at least when there are no cases around anyway.

    1. Thanks, Mica! I love this dress - it feels good to wear. I was pleased by the shoes.

Yay for being back at work! I heard there was a lockdown in Australia recently, but I'm not sure which state it was.

  8. Love the iris print and how you have played with colour with the pink shoes and cerulean blue. We're starting to trickle back to the office. I had my first day in the office since March last year. But think I prefer working from home now. Thanks for linking up!

Thanks for having me, sorry I can't comment! I loved your silk blouse, but I get that marking issue too (and sweating).

  9. Such a pretty, flattering dress. The pop of pink shoes is delightful.

It's hard to believe that we may be nearing the end of all this isolation and that you could be back with all/most of your co-workers in the near future.

  10. I love the bold neon-y greens in this dress, and it looks great with the pink shoes. We are starting to discuss when we might be back in the office at my work too. I doubt we will each be going in for more than one day a week until September. I can't believe that by then it would have been a year and 5 months of working from home.
