Monday Marimekko with Lavender Bookends and Pops of Orange

Happy Monday, my friends!

Digging through my not-yet-worn spring/summer purchases, I remembered this Marimekko print dress that I'd found in Sidney on a shopping expedition with Cat, back in October of last year.
We're forecast to get temps in the mid-teens all week, with mixed sun and clouds (so, typical spring), so it's finally warm enough to wear it.

  • Wrap cardigan - Kersh; last worn here in September 2020 with a pouffy printed skirt
  • Dress - Marimekko for Banana Republic, 2014, thrifted; purchased here for $24.98
  • Shoes - Leith, consignment; last seen here in September 2020 with shades of pink
  • Coat (below) - Tangerine Jill, thrifted; last worn here in April

I chose to wear my lavender wrap cardigan over the dress for a more office-appropriate look - not that anyone really noticed it as there were only four people in the office today in addition to me.
Showing off the pockets in the dress - yesssss, pockets!
I "bookended" the lavender top (and my lavender hair) with my metallic lavender shoes.
I do have nylons on, for a little extra warmth. It's not hot enough for bare legs just yet!

Masked up - this is a black and white pattern.
The dress was lovely to wear, although it dips a little low in the cleavage region for my taste - I'd wear it with a cami under it if there were actually people in my office.

Here's me after work without the cardi.
This Marimekko print is called "kivet" and was created by Mija Isola in the mid-1950s.
I didn't remember to do just a dress pic in the morning, and the cardi is a pain to take off and rewrap, so you get me in my more disheveled state, nine hours later.

Outerwear - it's still chilly in the mornings.
I love that section of black and white print peeking out at the hem.

Outerwear stuff:
First outing of these new-to-me suede gloves. I really like how the scarf's checkerboard tile went with the dress.

  • Gloves - thrifted; purchased here for $7.95
  • Silk scarf - vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
I usually dislike slides or mules; that "flip-flip" noise of them slapping one's heels...ugh. But I love this pair - that elastic strap over the vamp helps keep them on. No heel slap!

Orange and purple bling:
I love a pop of orange - it enlivens the black/white/lavender.

  • Necklace - Banana Republic, consignment
  • Plastic cuff and ring - vintage 60s, Italian, vintage mall
  • Bangles - thrifted
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Wooden earrings - vintage expo

As you can see, the wooden earring that snapped in half is so perfectly fixed, you can't even tell which one I repaired! In fact, I can't tell from that picture at all.

  3. Good morning She, well I am reading first thing so now I know what I will wear today... my lavender wrap another"twin" item. I love it when I see items I have because you always give me ideas, the pop of red and orange and red with the lavender is insired. That dress is gorgeous! My favourite dress was a similar black and white design and I could not fit in it anymore. I gave it to my sister-in-law who was beyond happy!! Apparantly she had been searching for years for one just like it. It eased the pain of giving it away ha ha. Seriously Sheila you look beautiful Shazxx

    1. Ooh, we have a twin wrap cardigan, Shaz, how awesome is that? I love orange with purple - it's such a fun combo.

I am a sucker for black and white/cream dresses - I have many of them! They are out there, so I expect you can find another one! Thank you so much, Shaz!

  5. I absolutely adore that shade of lilac. It works so well with the simplicity of black and white and the pop of orange is pure genius.

  6. What a great print on that dress! It looks striking contrasted by the pops of lavender of your cardigan, shoes and hair. Love the orange bling too - that necklace is one of my favourites of yours and you did a great job on repairing that earring. Your outerwear is gorgeous too, and very well put together. Both the black and white patterns of your scarf and mask work really well with the dress. xxx

    1. Isn't it great, Ann? I loved it the minute I saw it. Even my hair matches! I love wearing my orange "set" whenever I get a chance. Eh, the earrings are lightweight wood - it was an easy fix. :)

Thank you - I really liked the scarf with this outfit.

  9. This is the perfect ‘morning to evening’ dress. The wrap cardigan completes the morning look, take it off and there’s the evening vibe. Hmm, on third look not so sure about my assessment! Well it’s a delightful spring look no matter the time of day or activity, thanks to the cardigan.

I always appreciate when you were the orange necklace and feel like you once gave it a name, though do not recall what it was!

Hope all went well with your jab today. And....HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your Mom! 🎉👏🏻🎈

    1. I probably wouldn't wear this for evening, Laurie, as it's not really dressy enough for me (you know I like to go over-the-top!), but it would be nice for dinner out after work, for example. I did really like the outfit, though.

Yes, it's the Jell-O Shot necklace, ha ha! You remembered. Thank you, from Mom!

  10. I wouldn't have thought of combining orange and lavender but it really works well together. I love how you can added the sweater to the dress creating a brand new look. I really enjoyed doing that this fall and winter.

  13. Such a pretty light purple wrap sweater! I really like Kersh's knits and have owned several over the years (all of which have been thrifted - indeed, come to think of it, they're one of quite a few brands that, to date, I've only ever bought secondhand). I've found they hold up well and keep their shape even after scores of washings.

Terrific job the jewelry repair front! You'd never know that earring had broken, had you not mentioned it.

    1. I so agree, Autumn - Kersh's knits are among the best out there. I'm happy that Dots always gets their samples in, and they are often marked way down by the end of each season.

Thanks! It was an easy mend (wooden earrings + Zap-a-Gap superglue).

  14. I like Marimekko prints. Your necklace is very much in style with the dress. I wonder how you keep your mules on with nylons? I slip out of them.

    1. Me too, Greetje! They are nice and bold graphics, right up my alley. Thanks!

These shoes specifically have that extra strap that comes up very high on the vamp - it helps keep the shoes snug on my feet (and gets rid of the slap-slap).
