A Touch of Leopard, and a Copper Lining

Ah, Monday. I spent most of the day at work in pain, due to pulling or tweaking something in my hip after picking up Vizzini at 5:30am. He's not even a heavy cat!

I can walk, but stiffen up quickly, so I'm gritting my teeth in these pics.
I tried to get up from my office chair once an hour and gently stretch my lower back, as well as walk around to loosen up. I also iced it, and took some ibuprofen.

  • Wool sweater - Banana Republic, thrifted; last seen here in July 2020 with mismatched colours
  • Trousers - Cartonnier, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in January with zigzags
  • Shoes - Banana Republic, consignment; purchased here for $45.00
  • Coat - Club Monaco, thrifted; last seen here in September 2020

I built the outfit around the new-to-me leopard shoes, but it's mostly made up of things I've had for ages.
I usually wear the black coat as...a coat...in spring, to keep myself covered from the sun, but today I just wanted the cocoon shape to comfort me.
I let go of these trousers a year ago, and then they came back to me, but now I am really not sure that I want to keep them. Thoughts?

I like the look without the coat better - it shows off the touch of leopard better.
But that was too cold in the office. Let's just pretend this is what I wore all day.

Masked up.
I'm not feeling this look, but is it the pain in my back that's making me cranky, or the clothes themselves? Is this still me?

I was supposed to rain today, so I carried my umbrella both ways to and from work.
It did not rain. It was just cloudy and a few spittings here and there.

Other stuff:
I love the cutout work on these thin vintage suede gloves.

  • Gloves - vintage, thrifted
  • Mask - Lazy Susan's

The stuff:
These shoes were super-comfy for the little bit of walking I did, but I think I'd like them better with a skirt or dress. How would you style them?

Copper bling:
My copper collection never fails to cheer me up, though.

  • Necklace - Matisse by Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage expo
  • Enameled cuff - Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage expo
  • Copper cuff - Karen's
  • Copper and turquoise ring - vintage, Grandma J's
  • Turquoise ring - Karen's
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Copper/enamel earrings - Renoir, vintage 60s, Grandma J's

Forget silver; there's always a copper lining!

  1. Sorry to hear about your back, try an epsom salt bath. I like your entire look and like the trousers, but I’m mad about plaid. Your leopard shoes are super cute! I hope you keep the pants.

    1. Thanks, Dar, I will. I am keeping the pants, but have moved them into my fall stuff. I love the leopard shoes, but this is not the right outfit for them.

  2. I'm sorry about your hip, there's nothing worse than nagging pain to drag you down.
I agree with Dar, I really like the outfit, the trousers are fab with that cheery pop of turquoise and that very elegant coat. I love your copper collection, too!
    Feel better soon! xxx

    1. Fortunately, Monday was the worst day, Vix. I liked but did not love the outfit - I've moved the pants into my autumn collection.

  3. I like those pants - the top goes so nicely with it and the statement necklace and the print mix with the shoes show it's still a Sheila outfit, even if you weren't feeling it! I really hope you feel better soon and recover quickly!

    1. I didn't feel inspired, Mica, but I have moved the pants into my fall collection instead of spring/summer. It just felt too dark overall.

Thank you, hon, much better now!

  4. You poor thing! morning Sheila, get well soon. I would keep the trousers as today may be an off day due to the pain. Love the pop of turquoise in the top and your stunning copper and tuquoise jewellery is a great match picking up the great leopard print and gloves. I think your shoe will look great with your dresses . Shazxx

    1. Thanks so much, Shaz! I am feeling a lot better.

Yes, agreed, the pain was colouring my mood and soured me on the whole look. I'll wear the shoes again soon with something else.

  5. Sending a soothing massage and TLC for whatever got torqued in the Vizzini vibe. Meant to say for your weekend post that you and L made for a dapper couple!

I like the plaid pattern of the pants in this post though the style seems a bit bland. On the other hand, that might be what makes them comfortable to wear. And I completely agree about wearing the shoes with a skirt or dress, mainly because they would stand out more without a pant hemline to overshadow them.

Here’s to a speedy, comfortable healing of whatever got torqued so you are all set for the next weekend’s antics. :) And a week from today, your vaccine!

    1. Thank you, Laurie! It was combination of all the bending over from painting the deck, and then doing a sudden jerk movement when I picked up that darned cat. Thanks for the comment on the weekend ensembles!

I like the pants, and have given them away before, so this is their second chance. I have moved them into my fall stuff, though, where they do better. Agreed on the shoes, and I'll give them another chance with a skirt or dress.

Thanks again, my dear friend! Happy weekend to you!

  6. Sorry to hear about your hip. I get hip and back pain sometimes too so I know what it is like. I hope you are feeling better. Try to lie down for a bit in the afternoon or in the evening. Cold or warm compresses (or both) should help a bit as well as ibuprofen.
This outfit looks very cute to me, maybe you are now associating with the pain you felt and that is why you're not feeling it. That happens to me, I tend to be sentimental about clothes and wear items that carry 'good memories' more. On the other hand, maybe you would enjoy those pants in some other combo, perhaps worn with a white blouse as it would make the plaid pattern stand out more? I do like the blue top, though. I especially like the mix of prints, that feels very Sheila to me! I think the subtle mix print with the plaid trousers and leopard shoes is just fabulous.

    1. I iced my hip and also took ibuprofen, thank you, Ivana! It's much better now.

I think you are right - it definitely affected my mood and my feelings toward my outfit. But I did put my pants into my fall wardrobe, as they felt too dark and blah for spring. Thank you! I love mixing leopard and patterns.

  7. I hope the pain is a lot less now. I'm all for that clothes should make me feel good. If not they have to go. Although I do like those trousers, make it more punk! Wear that new leather jacket and cool boots with it! And a lot of pink!

    1. So much better now, thank you, Nancy! I totally agree, but I do think my pain coloured my perception of the outfit. I like the idea of going more punk with the plaid, good idea!

  8. I'm sorry to hear about your hip. I've learned that things like that usually happen in the most unexpected of ways. I had a backache out of the blue last week, but luckily it was over by the morning. And I don't even remember doing anything in particular!
I really love those plaid trousers and I think they look a treat with that short-sleeved sweater. Love the leopard shoes and copper bling with it too. I wouldn't let go of these trousers just yet, I'm sure they would end up being a regret me not again. It's probably the pain and not the clothes that's the cause of you not feeling the outfit anyway.
Sending healing vibes and hugs xxx

    1. Yes, I've hurt myself getting out of bed, or grabbing at the cat, before. It sucks!

Thank you, Ann. The trousers have already been passed along once, and have made their way back to me, so I'm not going to give up on them. I agree, that the pain soured me on the whole outfit, but I have put the pants into my fall wardrobe. They are not right for spring.

  9. Wrecking your back is bad enough if you are doing something strenuous, but it's such an insult when it happens when you are doing pretty much nothing! I sure hope you heal up fast - sounds like you are doing all the right things for recovery.

This is a very nice outfit, just a bit more subdued than I'm used to seeing you wear. Seems like there are quite a few things, like a miserable rainy day and a miserable back ache, that are keeping you from enjoying your ensemble today, so I think you should keep the pants and give them another chance on a better day.

    1. It does feel like an insult, Nana! It's not fair, dang it! It is much better now, though.

Thank you - and yeah, it wasn't an outfit that felt like me. I've put the pants into my fall wardrobe where they belong.

  10. I hope a good night's sleep will put you back to right. Regarding your pants, I think that they are a keeper. The plaid pattern appears to match along the side seam so they've got that going for them and the colors are divine. As for an outfit idea for your pumps, how about pairing them with hounds tooth?

  11. Sweet Sheila, I'm deeply sorry that you're dealing with an injury. Isn't it amazing how sometimes seemingly innocent physical actions can end up putting us out of commision for days, weeks or longer? Please know that my understanding and healing energy are with you around the clock.

PS: I too feel like those fab leopard print shoes would pair well with a dress or skirt. In particular, I see them working nicely with a pencil or a-line skirt, perhaps with a tie neck/pussy bow blouse on top for an overall look at channels the elegance of 1970s/80s office attire.

    1. Thank you so much for the kind healing thoughts, Autumn, I do appreciate it. The pain did colour my world for a few days.

Agreed, and that's what I'll do with the shoes next time. I am grooving on that 70s/80s vibe right now!

  12. Sorry to hear about the hip - it doesn't seem to take much to irritate some part of my body these days. Picking up a bag of groceries, or a cat, can leave you with a pain!
I like those pants - they fit you well, and paired with the turquoise top make a stylish but simple outfit on those days when you may want to do with a more pared down look. That's just my two cents worth - most of my pants don't fit me anymore so I would never get rid of a pair that look as nice as those!

    1. Arg, getting older SUCKS, Shelley! I can't believe how easy it is to completely wreck myself doing something innocuous!

I like the pants too, and I'll be putting them back into my fall wardrobe. They feel too dark for spring. I also love the quality and colours, so keeper they are.

  13. Fab outfit, Sheila! I love plaid and leopard together. These colors are all so great together, too. I hope your back is feeling better by now! I tweaked mine a bit earlier this week but some gentle yoga stretches took care of it. I am way behind on blog comments so I am playing catch up this weekend! I hope you have a relaxing weekend ahead!
