Fancy Friday: Green Satin and Blue Velvet

We made it, my friends! Friday is here! Woo!

More Clothing as Armour - green satin!
And blue velvet - I was all about texture and colour today!

  • Dress - Escada, vintage 00s, consignment; first worn here in June 2020 as Armour
  • Top - Ted Baker, consignment; last seen here in October 2020 in a goth look
  • Boots - Chatterbox Ishshoes, Fluevog; last worn here (2nd outfit) in January with my puzzle dress
  • Coat (below) - Apparence, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here a week ago

I was inspired to dig out this as-yet-unworn coat-dress by blogger Lovely at My Name is Lovely - I enjoy her trendy, designer clothes and she's a natural model (unlike me!).
She was wearing a fabulous coat-dress (check it out here), and I thought, "Hey, I have one of those!"

Mine is obviously nothing like hers - my taste is a lot more over-the-top! - but today was the perfect day for a coat dress.
I layered my navy blue sparkly Ted Baker top with the dress as that collar is wide and gape-y.

I also have a navy blue vintage full slip underneath for warmth and bottom half coverage.
The dress is 100% silk, even the lining (KLASSY) - it's a chi-chi brand that's been around forever: Escada.

Masked up. This one is navy blue with sparkles.
The last time I wore this dress was the day our dear Karen left us (guaranteed to make me cry link here). I thought of her all day while I wore it. I can't believe it's been 8 months since she died.

Outerwear - nothing better than a bear of a coat, especially the Unsafe Polar Bear!
There won't be too many more opportunities to wear her this season.

Fully done up and snuggly warm.
It was sunny but chilly - more of the same is in store for the weekend. I'm so glad. I need sun.

Outerwear stuff:
My silk Lanvin scarf matched perfectly.

  • Scarf - Lanvin, vintage 80s, vintage mall
  • Mask - by Mom
  • Mittens - thrifted; purchased here for $3.95

The stuff:
Beautiful blue velvet boots. Super comfy too!

Blue and gold bling:
Once I matched the belt (which has gold hardware), I dug out all my blue and gold jewelry.

  • Belt - Karen Millen, thrifted
  • Eelskin cuff - vintage 80s - mine, long-donated, then re-found and thrifted
  • Brutalist ring - vintage mall
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Bracelet - thrifted, Sidney
  • Tiger brooch - Good Things Vintage

Did you see the tiger on my shoulder?

A gust of wind during the timer for my stair pose caught me by surprise and bouffed my hair up huge!
I hope those are winds of change...for spring!

Have a lovely weekend, and thank you so much for dropping by. Stay safe, be calm, and be kind.

  5. Green suits you nicely. I always loved the combination of blue and green. I always say that it makes me feel like a mermaid. For some reason I imagine mermaids as being blue and green.
You look fabulous in this olive satin dress. I don't think I have a coat dress in my closet yet, but I do think they are fabulous. Amazing boots as well.
    Have a great weekend!!!!!!

    1. Thank you, Ivana - I love blue and green together too. It definitely has a mermaid feel!

I don't really think about coat dresses too much - they aren't really a go-to for me. Happy weekend!

  9. What can be more tactile than green satin and blue velvet combined? That satin coat-dress is gorgeous on you, and what a fabulous shade of green it is. I can understand wearing it was an emotional roller coaster, and Karen was on your mind all day. Can't believe it was eight months!
I love the matching Lanvin scarf and of course, those blue velvet boots are magnificent. And, hello Unsafe Polar Bear!
I do hope Spring is on its way for you and that you are having a wonderful weekend! xxx

    1. Between the two items, I was petting myself all day, Ann! Ha! Thank you so much. I didn't want to not wear the dress, but that association will always be there for me. Time has gone so fast.

Thanks so much, my dear friend. I need warmth and sun, as we all do. Happy weekend to you and Jos!

  12. Ah yeah, that tiger again! I know I will find a similar one, one day! What a gorgeous coat dress! What a color. I think blue and green is just as gorgeous af pink and red. This year it wil be 10 years since the benjamin of our friend group died. Time goes so fast Sheila, we need to enjoy every minute of it.

  14. Oh I love this dress/coat. It is so good. And I bet, it would fit me too (just saying...).
I had a look at the blog of Lovely and yes, her coat dress is gorgeous, but so expensive. And yes she is like a model. I don't think I will follow her, she would give me an inferiority complex haha.

PS yes it is a sad moment when you remember a friend you lost, isn't it. Yesterday I found a photo of my late BFF which I didn't know I had and it made me cry too.

Yes, she wears very expensive items, but I do enjoy her styling.

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that. Yes, the littlest things can trigger our memories.
