Punk Plaid and Roses

It started snowing last night and we woke up to cold temps and more snow today. It's a novelty for us west-coasters - not all of Canada is snow-bound in winter!
I wore lots of layers to stay warm - I'm a delicate flower, as you can see by my rose-printed blouse.

  • Blazer - Vivienne Westwood Red Label, vintage, thrifted; last seen here in October 2019 with spooky bling
  • Blouse - Brooks Brothers, consignment; purchased here for $20.00
  • Trousers - Talbots, thrifted; last worn here in October 2019 with red and more plaid
  • Boots - Prepare 2.0 Tracker, Fluevog; first worn here for New Year's Eve
  • Coat (below) - Hilary Radley, thrifted; last seen here a couple of weeks ago

Here's my view of the Castle at 7:45am, with just a light dusting of snow on it.
I love how the snow is limned on the branches of the trees. Pretty!

And now the colour shot:
While I was playing around in my closet last night, looking for something to wear with this shirt, I noticed how well it played with these awesome grey tartan trousers.

The pants are fully lined and wool with some stretch so perfect for a chilly day.
I added my Vivienne Westwood Red Label blazer for more warmth, and to tone down the pattern clash.
I'm smirking at the thought of myself stomping around the office. Heh. Mondays are challenging for me.

Here's the blouse without the jacket - I didn't wear it like this at all (too cold). I really like this pattern of roses.
I did a half-tuck of the silk top, as the pants are rather low rise.

All buttoned up and looking badass.
The shoes were the star of the outfit - everyone at work loved them. I waggled my feet at many of my coworkers.

Outerwear - this is the warmest coat I own! Thank goodness for the Unsafe Ocelot.
My hair was clipped up and tucked under my toque, and I cautiously navigated the slippery sidewalks going to and from work in my trusty Doc Martens (the best shoes in snow!).

The stuff:
Yeah, those are pretty badass shoes.

Black bling:
I wore all of my punk stuff - accessories can be armour too!

  • Necklace - Club Monaco
  • Studded cuff - vintage
  • Leather cuff - Guess, thrifted
  • Onyx/silver ring - Tocarra, vintage fair
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Zipper rose - Victoria & Albert Museum gift shop, London
  • Earrings - vintage fair

The necklace is very noisy and rattly plastic - you could hear me coming!

  6. This shirt/trousers combo is a Sheila-creation. Lesser mortals like me wouldn't attempt anything so advanced. By the way, I heard a rumor that Megan and Harry are planning to move down the block from you. True? :)

    1. Thank you, Ally! Aw, don't be silly! I wasn't born knowing this - I tried, often failed, but kept on trying!

Not quite down the block, but yes, in the Victoria area. So cool!

  9. Fantastic pattern mixing. I love the top but I bet if you didn't wear it with the jacket and the trousers it might look old fashioned. Now it looks fresh and desirable. Love it.

    1. YES! Exactly, Greetje! I put it with a matchy green skirt and it looked very dowdy and matronly. It probably won't last too long with me for that reason.

    2. Is it not worth to hang on to it for this particular outfit? As this gets an A+ from me.

    3. I probably won't wear this specific outfit again, though - I don't really repeat outfits 100%. I love the outfit, so I might repeat elements of it, especially the pants + blouse.

  10. I'm loving your photo of the snowy castle and trees, but snow is only nice to look at in my book, so please do not - I repeat DO NOT - send it over to Belgium. Although it would please my bosses, who are visiting from Miami. Your outfit is just perfect, I love how you paired the tartan and roses. The shoes, of course, are beyond awesome. No wonder that they were greatly admired. And ovbiously I'm loving your punk stuff! That goes without saying! xxx

    1. Thank you, Ann! No snow for Belgium, got it. But what if we have too much? Will you take some then? :)

Thanks so much, I really liked this look.

  13. As someone who lives in New England, I scoff at your rare dusting of snow. ;) We've been pretty lucky this year though so I can't complain too much. Anyway, what an amazing outfit! Fantastic pattern combo and yes, those shoes are awesome.
