Back to Work Jammy Dress

I am so glad this is a short work-week! Today was rather hectic, shall we say?
There is no better time to wear a jammy dress!

  • Dress - White Stuff; purchased here for $22.50
  • Sleeveless mock-neck sweater - Twik, thrifted; last worn here in October 2019 with my Hallowe'en outfit
  • Boots - Clarks; last seen here in November 2019 with autumn camo
  • Coat (below) - Hilary Radley, thrifted; last worn here in December 2019

First wearing of this new corduroy dress - and it will need a name, since searching on my blog for "white" or "stuff" will get a million results. Suggestions welcome!
I layered this sleeveless sweater under it for a bit of extra warmth. So far, 2020 is determined to be windy, rainy and cold.

I loved this dress, but since it's not lined, it does cling a bit to tights, but not to the point where this can only be worn with bare legs. A minor cling is all.
I took the office Christmas tree down today, and took care of all of the small disasters that resulted from me not being at work for 3 days that weren't stat holidays. It's nice to feel needed!

I love the pockets on this dress - they are nice and deep and the fabric is really stretchy.
I went with lacy black tights instead of a solid, just to shake things up.

Outerwear - it is Unsafe Ocelot weather.
I should have worn a hat - I got drenched on the way home.

  • Fur scarf - thrifted
  • Gloves - Cejon, thrifted

The stuff:
Despite their height, these boots are very comfy to wear. I like that they are rather beat-up.

Circular bling:
I liked how all of these things went with the pattern of the dress (another look at the pattern here).

  • Cuff - thrifted
  • Earrings - gift from Lise
  • Crystal/silver ring - Soul Flower
  • Hematite ring - thrifted

As I loaded my bag this morning, I found a remnant of New Year's Eve:
My plastic glass! Instead of writing my name, I drew my hat on it.

Well, that was a quick week - tomorrow is Friday! And with that, I'm off for another weekend. I'll be back on Sunday - thanks for stopping by!

  1. Happy New Year, Sheila! There cut of your new dress is flattering and practical. Great find! The pattern reminds me of brown dominoes with copper doilies scattered on top. The kind of patterned dress I envision being appropriate at a 60s party in a wood paneled bungalow! Groovy!

    1. Happy New Year, Mel-Bee! Thank you so much - it was very comfy to wear. Heh, I like Dominoes and Doilies, that's great. Yes, it does have that mid-century modern look to it, doesn't it?

  2. Happy new year! :) Hope that the new year and new decade are starting great for you! :) I can't think of a name of the dress although I'm sure you will think of a great one! I'm always a little annoyed when I didn't give items a descriptive enough name when I first wore them on the blog - it makes it tricky finding the posts I want when I'm searching for the last ways I've worn things. I ended up looking through last year's photos on the computer to find an outfit I'd worn something with so I could use more descriptive terms to search for it and see what I'd called it last time, haha!

    1. Happy New Year, Mica! Thank you so much. I may just end up searching on "corduroy". YES, that's the same as me! I have a lot of things by certain brands too (Danier, Club Monaco, Banana Republic), so it's a lot of scrolling when I'm looking for my "last worn" - you totally get it! I don't save all of my pictures, so I can't even look through them.

  3. That dress looks fab and fits you a treat. The lace tights, beat-up leather boots and Unsafe Ocelot were the perfect choice.
Hmmmm....the word corduroy comes from corde du roi, cloth of the king. Maybe the dress could be Le Roi as it does look rather regal on you!
    Have a fab weekend. xxx

      Happy weekend to you!

    2. I couldn't think of a name but Le Roi sounds utterly fabulous!

I reckon all of my boots are a bit on the rough side because I love wearing them so much.

Happy New Year, Shiela. I hope work gets a bit less hectic. X

  4. That jammy dress looks even better on, and I love how you combined it with the lacy tights. I'm hearing you on the clinging problem, but surely having pockets more than makes up for this "sticky" problem. Couldn't you wear some sort of slip underneath? I love those beat-up boots too. I have a similar, but less high, pair which are my go-to boots in all kinds of weather. Enjoy your weekend, Sheila, I'm so glad it was only a short working week! xxx

    1. Thank you so much, Ann! yes, I could do a short slip, and the clinging issues aren't too bad.

So glad it was a short week! Happy weekend to you!

  6. Lovely dress; the geometric orange dress? It looked fab with the lace tights and boots, too. Our weather is pretty similar to yours but will get milder next week...

    1. Geometric, I like it! Thank you, Vronni! Yes, I notice a lot of my UK, Belgium and Netherlands friends seem to have very similar weather to Canada's wet west coast.

  7. That printed dress is gorgeous. I like how you wore a sweater under it for extra warm. The tights you paired with it are gorgeous too. The boots are very chic. You layer so well and prove that one can wear dresses in winter. You look fantastic in this!!!

I enjoy layering dresses for winter too, perhaps because I find most dresses quite comfortable. People always get surprised when I tell them that I actually feel comfy in a dress. Most jeans I own are vintage and hence zero stretch so they aren't comfy at all. Good quality vintage jeans are rarely comfy.

    1. Thank you, Ivana! Such great timing, that we both layered our dresses. I will pick a dress over nearly anything else, they are that much more comfortable than any other article of clothing. I rarely wear jeans, but yes, those zero-stretch vintage ones are not comfy!

  10. How about 'curls & swirls' as a name for the dress? In any case, the dress does look super comfy and the patterned tights are the perfect practical accessory.

Sheila, do you have any advice about what material makes for the best slip? Sometimes I wind up wearing a slip that seems to generate its own static electricity. :( My daughter-in-law suggested only wearing cotton (or mostly cotton) leggings or tights, as they do not seem to cling, but I have had a difficult time finding cotton/mostly cotton tights that are colorful or interesting.

And, most of all - Here's to a healthy, fun, colorful and delightful 2020 to you, L and V!

    1. Hey, Laurie! I like that, thank you!

For slips, I always go vintage, and they are always 100% nylon. Those slips have lasted for decades and they don't get clingy. I don't notice much difference with cotton tights (I have a few pairs) for clinging, but you need a nylon slip (silk might work, but it's hard to find). Polyester tends to get staticky.

  11. This dress is life! I absolutely love the colors and the pattern and the fact that it is corduroy and feels like wearing jammies! You can’t go wrong. The patterned tights are perfect for shaking things up and your coat is magnificent. Wishing you all the best in 2020!
