Crops, Spots and Knots

Brrr! We're in the midst of chilly weather all week, with everything happening: rain, wind, snow (not in my part of town, thank goodness), and low temperatures.
And it's DARK now in the morning, so get used to weird colours in the stair pictures.

  • Shirt - Lansea for Pant-Man, vintage 70s, thrifted; first worn here in October with all grays
  • Trousers - Zara, thrifted; purchased here for $16.95
  • Shoes - Hispanitas; last worn here in September with purple leather
  • Leather trenchcoat (below) - vintage 70s, thrifted; last seen here a couple of weeks ago

Here's a better look at the colour of my new-to-me cropped cobalt blue trousers.
I do love a vivid blue. Wide-legged crops are still something I'm getting used to, but thrifting them is a great way to dabble in a current trend.

I kept with a slim-fitting shirt - this is a 40+ year old double-knit 70s polyester shirt - to balance the wide legs.
I'm wearing nylon knee-highs to keep my legs warm. Cold ankles are no fun.

Pockets for the win!
Bizarrely, the pockets connect across the front of the trousers.

Outerwear - get used to seeing my fur toque and scarf! They are the warmest winter accessories I own.
My leather coat was perfect for keeping the wind out.

  • Toque/scarf - Danier Leather
  • Wool gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
I love the spotty pattern on the top of these leather shoes - the spotted part is cow-hide and is hairy. I am all about texture, as well as pattern.

Knotted bling:
I wanted this necklace to fill in the top of the shirt neckline, but it was too long...so I knotted it, once on either side. It worked great!

  • Necklace - thrifted
  • Crystal earrings - Plum
  • Onyx/silver ring - Tocara, vintage fair
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

    1. Thanks so much, Becky! Lol, I know, it's very odd - I suspect it was easier to sew/construct that way.

  2. I have never tried wide-leg cropped trousers yet. Those pockets are unusual as well!

    1. I'm still a bit leery of them, but you wouldn't know it! I know, bizarre choice on the pockets! Thanks, Rebecca!

  3. As I was looking at your photos, it dawned on me that I am wearing a dress in a very similar print to your lovely blouse! Love the shape and colour of your trouser, but I wonder what the interconnecting pockets are all about ;-) Your amazing leather coat and fur toque and scarf are just perfect, as are those lovely shoes. Hurray for nylon knee-highs, I was glad to read that you didn't go out with all that bare skin in the cold! xxx

    1. Ha, what synchronicity, Ann! I suspect (as noted above), that it was more cost-effective rather than having separate pockets.

My outerwear has to be functional, not just pretty! Yes to knee-highs! No bare skin for me!

LOL, I know, right? I suspect it was cheaper than separate pockets.

  5. What a great outfit. And bang on trend (as if you care). I also love the vivid blue and I think you combined the trousers very well with this blouse and those shoes. A+

    1. Thanks so much, Greetje! Yeah, I really don't follow trends, but it's kind of fun to play with them. Aw, and A+? I'm flattered. :)

  6. I love the necklace to "bookend" the cobalt at the top and bottom of your outfit! they are very fun pants and you wear them so well! I've stayed away from the cropped trend - probably because all the cropped pants / jeans I own are actually full length on me, ha! When I see jeans are cropped I get excited as it means my short self doesn't need to get them hemmed - but it makes me unsure this style would work for me!

    1. Yes, you got it exactly, Mica! You should at least try some crops on - you might like them! I'm short too (5'4"), so if I can do it... :)

  7. Those cobald wide trousers are beautiful. I love a vivid blue too and cobalt is one of my fav shades, I often use it in painting too. As for the wide cropped trend, I agree that it can be tricky. I prefer wide trousers to other cits because to me they always look so elegant and timeless. I also like cropped trousers but wide and cropped is a combination that can be a bit tricky. You pulled it off in this styling. I really like your blouse as well. You look fabulously stylish and very fresh in this. The accessorizes are fantastic!

    1. Same here, Ivana - you really can't ever go wrong with cobalt blue. I prefer wide trousers too, in general - they have that Big Boss Lady vibe about them. Thank you so much!

  9. Hi Sheila. Love your blog! I think 'joined up pockets' might be used in some trousers/pants for a flat front (like NYDJ?).

  11. That polyester shirt is ace. I've never heard of pockets connecting at the front of trousers before - where do things you put in them end up?

    1. I never put anything in my pockets other than my hands, but if I did, it would stay on the sides, I think, Mim. Thanks!

  13. I wish I could find a pair of trousers like those - I prefer a wide leg style on me but they are hard to find. That is strange about the single pocket though.

    1. They're starting to appear in stores more now - I'm sure they will show up second-hand soon enough. The pocket thing is bizarre.
