Spring Neon and the Fuzzy Flamingo

I'm just returned from working my double-shift (job #1, followed by job #2), and going for pizza with L afterwards. I'm tired and full of pizza and the couch calls.
This was my Monday outfit that I didn't get to wear - I was really stoked to show it off, and loved it overall. I felt very springy!

  • Blazer - Brooks Brothers, thrifted; last worn here in January with the same shoes and a tiger
  • Silk blouse - Kate Spade, thrifted; purchased here for $24.95
  • Skirt - J. Crew, thrifted; purchased here for $19.95
  • Shoes - Big Presence Earhart, Fluevog; last seen here in January with this same blazer
  • Coat (below) - Auckie Sanft, vintage 50s, thrifted; purchased here at the vintage fair a week ago for $49.95

My internal furnace was stoked as well. I spent the day with the jacket off...and on...and off...and on...
Isn't the neon yellow blouse pretty? I gave it a good steaming before wearing it, and the lovely bias-cut ruffled shoulders just fell into place.

I was very bright - I warned people at work by hollering, "Put your sunglasses on!" As one is wont to do in an office. Heh heh.
The skirt was also lovely to wear - one of the little loopy tweedy bits pulled a bit on the way to work, but I just snipped it off. It's a weave; it won't run.

Jacket on! When I wore it, it was open like this.
The skirt's tweed has little flecks of this dusty pinky-lavender colour in it. So handy for colour-matching.

I liked how the muted tone of the jacket reined in all the bright yellow.
I knew I'd be wearing it unbuttoned most of the time, so I pulled the tie belt out of the belt loops. No belt for you!

Done up and looking kickass (if I do say so myself).
I may be bright but I mean business.

Someone was lurking around while I took pictures - he didn't get close enough to actually be in the backgrounds, though.
"I just wanted to see if you were paying attention."

Dang, my butt looks good in that skirt.

Outerwear - the debut of the Fuzzy Flamingo! I showed this off to many of my colleagues.
Gasps of admiration! Awed petting of the soft wool! Looks of incredulity at a nearly 70-year-old coat for fifty bucks!

No accoutrements needed today. The pockets are half wool and half acetate lining; very soft and snuggly.

The stuff:
I thought the shoes really made the outfit. Why not go lavender and mango?

Gold bling:
What kind of bling does one wear with all that colour? Solid gold, baby. And of course, when in doubt, go Givenchy.

  • Necklace - Givenchy, vintage 80s, vintage fair
  • Earrings - thrifted

Happy almost-weekend from me and the Vizzmeister.
"I better get treats for all this cuddling, Woman."

I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure. Thanks for reading, my friends.

  1. I'm in love with the entire outfit! If this outfit doesn't chase away winter blahs, nothing will. Love it and the new coat. The colours pop and are great together.

  2. This is so cheerful and spring-like! I really like the two shades of yellow together. I was admiring a mustard top today in store but sadly they didn't have my size. I'd like to have more yellow in my wardrobe!

  3. I love your pointy shoes, Shiela!
I bought my first pair of pointy boots recently and I'm a bit hesitant about them, but your shoes have convinced me that they're a great shape. X

    1. Pointy toes are my favourite shoe shape, Jess - if you're not visually used to them, they can seem odd, thought. They are very flattering, and make one's legs look long.

  5. I love this outfit. Especially how the flecks of lavender in the yellow tweed skirt echo the jacket and the amazing shoes.

The fuzzy flamingo looks wonderful on you. You look like a proper lady; you know the type with matching gloves, hat and handbag - very 1950s, so cool.

    Have a fab weekend!

Isn't she lovely? Oh, yes, I'm sure she was worn that way in the 50s!

      You too, my dear!

  9. I sped right through the other pictures (something I never do) to that coat. It is beautiful! I was intrigued when you bought it, because you don't see coats like that anymore and for such a great price. I wanted to see it on you and it is gorgeous! Your whole outfit is really lovely.

  10. You're a vision of Spring in this outfit, Sheila! The skirt and frilly top seem to be made for each other, and I love how you managed to rein in all the yellow with that marvellous jacket. The shoes are perfect with it too. But the Fuzzy Flamingo is the real star here. I didn't need proof of its fabulousness, but it actually does look even more fabulous on. Expect lots more petting in years to come! Have an awesome weekend, Sheila! xxx

  11. I am just in love with the Celtic. The muted lavender is such an unexpected and lovely combination with the neon green. And that tweed skirt is gorgeous. Or is it type a bouclé? I don’t know how you manage to do two jobs and keep up this fashion blog. You are such a source of inspiration and I love your creative energy. I’m glad you enjoyed the pizza too. LOL.
And of course the requisite applause for the fuzzy flamingo.

    1. Thank you, Elle! The blouse is more of a neon yellow than green, but I see it. It's a woven tweed, with some boucle. It's a lot of work overall, but always worth it - I try not to spend too much time blogging (hence the often crappy pictures, ha!). Aw, that is so sweet.
