Vintage and Emerald for Tooth Business

In addition to my usual periodontal shenanigans, I've been dealing with my front teeth for a while and was back at the dentist today.

Wait, let's look at the outfit first.
There - I planned to sit in the dentist chair with my mouth hanging open.

  • Top - vintage, homemade, consignment; purchased here for $11.00
  • Trousers - Banana Republic, thrifted; last worn here in July with a different vintage top
  • Shoes - Garden of Enjoyment Rita, Fluevog; last seen here (3rd outfit) in April for a baby shower
  • Jacket (below) - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last worn here in August

First wearing of this new-to-me top. I am glad I wore an extra long camisole under it, as the waist did not stay where I wanted. I'll have to remember to wear it with high-waisted skirts and trousers. Other than that, it was nice to wear - but the double-knit polyester was HOT. I might not wear this again until cooler weather.
It goes so well with these emerald green pants, though.

Bad bum view.
I should have hoiked the pants up a bit!

Outerwear - my brain said, "It's fall, back to school" but the thermometer said, "Nope, it's still summer." Did not need the coat.
It was more of a protective cocoon for me.

The stuff:
My usual table is in use due to the cleaner being here. I love these shoes and always forget how very comfy they are! I know they don't look it.

Blue bling:
The earrings are such a good match.

  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Lapis lazuli ring/Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

So, dentists! You can stop reading if you want - pictures of my mouth, ahoy! Nothing graphic, but it's maybe not your thing.

I knocked out two of my front teeth when I was 17 years old (fainted in the shower and did a face-plant on the edge of the tub), and went through a year of dental surgeries (gums, root canals, all the good stuff). As this was in 1985 and pre-freezing for needles had yet to be in common use, I understandably had/have a lot of trauma and issues around my teeth and dentists.
The centre left front tooth and the one to the left of it are both implants from 1985.

The right-hand centre front tooth was intact for years, but was weakened and eventually cracked from other things in the ensuing 30+ years - I've fallen off a bus (here, no pictures, but the tale is told) and gotten donked in the face by a Frisbee. In 2009 (here), that right tooth chipped, and I had it patched by my old dentist.

The patch chipped off in March and I had it fixed (here), then it chipped again in July, and the new patch lasted two whole days. At that point, we checked to see if our insurance providers would cover the replacement of the tooth with a crown - YES! They will. This will save a lot of money.

Today, I had my original tooth ground down to a little nubbin (oh darn, no picture of that!), and a giant temporary crown was slapped on there. I was 2 hours late to work, and my upper lip was frozen for another couple of hours.
Temp crown - they closed up my front tooth gap! I miss it!

Tomorrow I have to go get colour-matched for the permanent crown, and then...installation. I am looking forward to it - to having my front teeth back again (not so much going to the dentist again, ugh). I hope it's soon!

  2. I do love the colours in your outfit, even if it wasn't for the best day - and the outfit was too warm!

Fingers crossed you get everything over with the dentist soon, such a long process, but will be worth it if you don't need any more immediate appointments once it's all fixed!

  8. I think this outfit is rather spectacular. Very good combination, green and blue. I agree with you on the shoes: GOOD.
I hate it when a blouse don’t stay put. As I have a stomach and belly showing this kind of blouse is off limits to me. Love the print.
As for your tooth/teeth.. it reminds me of the song: “all I want for Christmas is my two front teeth” (Danny Kay.)

    1. Aw, thank you, Greetje! This blouse was annoying - if it misbehaves next time I wear it, it will be gone. Ha, I know that song! I hope I don't have to wait till Christmas for my new tooth!

  9. Oh, you're such a brave girl, Sheila! I admit I half skipped the part about the tooth business, as I too have had a traumatic experience with teeth and dentists when I was younger. That said, I love your outfit, which I'm sure acted as a kind of armour at the dentist. Love the emerald green trousers, and they're fantastic combined with the polyester blouse and awesome shoes! xxx

  10. Like the green and blue combination. Hopefully you'll get more wear out of that blouse in the cooler weather. Sorry you had to go through all that Dentist business. I've had so much dental stuff done since my late teens/early 20's that I'm pretty cool and calm in the dentist chair. I did have a horrible gum graft experience that makes me extremely reluctant to do it again, even though I'm going to need another one.
