Well, that was a weekend! And I still have some precious time left, so must do the blog, then enjoy these last few hours!
First of all, linking up to:
- "Visible Monday" at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style
- "Hat Attack!" over at Judith's Style Crone
Thank you to both ladies for hosting these link-ups! Please take the time to visit and check out the other stylish participants.
Let's cast our minds back to Friday. This is my Casual Friday outfit - another black and white dress!
Since the sack shape is quite casual, I usually wear this dress on weekends.- Dress - Joe Fresh, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) in August 2016 with
- Shoes - Feet First; last worn here with all silks and dots in April
- Coat (below) - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last seen here on May 4th
For work, I layered a black tank under it (for bra strap coverage; it's quite a wide neckline), and wore a simple heel.
It was a quiet day at work, being the last day before the Victoria Day long weekend here in Canada. I hosted a paper airplane contest in one of the main boardrooms at lunchtime, because why not?
Outerwear. Only barely needed - it's started to clear up! Fewer clouds, warmer temps, glimpses of sun! Could it be...?
Spring? Is that you?
The stuff:
Love these blue suede shoes. They are totally basic, but I've had them for years - nearly the entire time I've been blogging!
Silver and blue bling:
With a simple shape like the dress, very clean lines on the jewelry is called for.
- Cuff - Fossil, gift from L
- Bangle - Glee
- Earrings - local
- Vine ring - purchased in Scotland in 1996, made there
- Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
On Friday night, L and I chilled and played a couple of games of Arkham Horror. Vizzini helps.
"I keep track of the elastic bands." |
He does sulk when we play.
"Fine. If you don't want me to sleep on your lap, I will sleep here." |
It started getting warm as the sun went down.
"I'm exhausted." |
"Woman, perhaps you should feed me some more kitty treats." |
He also helped us get ready for Ultimate Frisbee on Saturday morning.
"The Man will never be able to pack! He'll have to stay home with me." |
It was lovely and hot and sunny, so I debuted my orange hat - first wearing of the season.
- Dress - Lirub; last seen here with the same cardi, in September 2016 for Ultimate again
- Shoes - Franco Sarto, consignment; last worn here in August 2016 with shiny greens
- Cardigan (below) - Gap, thrifted; last seen here in April over Etro
My beloved Spanish Ladies dress, purchased many years ago in Camden Market in London - I'm sure a few of you remember it!
After lunch downtown, L and I got a few groceries and walked home.
I was covered up whenever I was in the sun.
I thrifted the hat back in late March - it's by Sun 'N' Sand - here for $4.00.
The stuff:
Easy shoes for walking. I picked up a couple of pairs of sunglasses at The Patch a few months ago when I bought my contact lenses. Now that it's sunny and we're playing Ulti again, I do contacts plus sunglasses. Voila!
- Earrings - vintage expo
We hung out at home for the afternoon, had a nap, read for a while, then headed over to Cat & Ross' place to play more board games and meet their new kitty, Baxter.
"I am all the kitty you need right here, Woman." |
"He couldn't possibly be as fun as me." |
"These are very high criteria. You are much too fussy about such things." |
I was going to wear something more complicated, but it felt like it was going to be a warm day, so I went with a loose and easy dress.
- Click by Color Me Cotton, thrifted; purchased here in March after the last vintage fair for $22.95
- Sandals - Born, consignment; last seen here for our trip to Powell River in August 2016
- Cardigan - Reitman's, thrifted; last worn here (3rd outfit) last June 2016 for L's birthday weekend
I gave this dress a good steam before we went out - it had wrinkled badly while being folded away after I bought it. It ended up being a good choice for the day!
I like the long uneven layers.
L was blasting music while I was getting ready, so I couldn't hear the camera timer. Did it go off or not?
No, not quite.
Contact and sunglasses again. I need a bigass round pair of Sophia Loren-style sunglasses, I think.
All my exposed skin areas were fully sunblocked. Wear sunblock!
The stuff:
I've had these sandals for a few years, and they are heaven to wear. I dislike the thong piece between my toes on most shoes, but I can handle it on these for some reason.
Green bling:
I do like a nice cat's eye pair of sunglasses. That's my mom's green glass necklace.
- Glass bangle - thrifted
- Necklace - Mom's, vintage 70s
- Earrings - Stella and Dot, consignment
I took my camera out for the afternoon, so forgive my personal indulgence of a few pictures.
In front of the Legislature, aka the Parliament Buildings, there were groups of marching bands practicing for the Monday Victoria Day parade. Most of those come up from the US. So many people! I hurried past this section. Tourists everywhere!
We passed this hotel where we spotted some bridesmaids getting a bride into a car.
I used to hate the big granite avocado, but now I kind of like it.
We had about 16 friends show up over the next few hours. What a wonderful bunch of friends we have!
Alison and Chris, Randall, Ross, L, Cat and Yvonne.
Me and Yvonne.
Not bad for a selfie on an old-fashioned phone!
It was so bright, it was hard to see with the sun behind us.
Cat and Linda, looking gorgeous.
Yvonne and Vero.
Vero and Justin biked down, as did Linda, and Caro and Ron.
Karen and Casey, two of my oldest friends.
I met Casey before I met L. Karen is our oldest friend who didn't come to our wedding (she and Nick started dating around then).
Ross and L can always be counted on to ham it up.
The coolest dudes in the bar, for sure.
After a few hours, it was time to move on.
Ron and Caro as we stroll around the harbour. That's the Empress Hotel.
Wandering down the street, repeating, "We're not tourists," to the street vendors.
I see my shadow!
We move with energy, and a jump in our steps!
L is decked out in his Boston Bruins regalia.
Looking back.
Caro, Casey and Nick.
The Inner Harbour area is so full of tourists - this is the first big weekend of the season! It only gets more crowded over the summer - a good place to avoid if you're local.
Casey, Nick, Caro and Cat.
We went to the Churchill Pub for dinner and a few more bevvies, and it was still light when we left.
Looking down Government Street (I can see the Olympic Mountain range in Washington State there at the end!). L and I stayed up and played more board games before we crashed. What a long lovely day!
Today/Monday, L and I had a quiet morning, then walked to town for a quick lunch bite followed by the new "Guardians of the Galaxy (Vol 2)" movie.
It was okay, not as good as the first one. It was gorgeously hot out, but we mistimed things and got caught in the onslaught of cars and people leaving downtown after the parade. Gah! People everywhere!
- Kimono jacket - Urban Renewal; last worn here in September 2016 for a tattoo session
- Blouse - Abercrombie & Fitch, thrifted; last seen here in April under lavender
- Culottes - Jones New York, thrifted; last worn here (5th outfit) in March with copper leather
- Sandals - Ecote, consignment; purchased here for $10.50
Things I haven't worn yet for spring/summer. I love this kimono topper, but it's tricky to wear.
It provided good coverage from the sun (physical sunblock is the best), and was comfy for sitting in the reclining movie chairs.
Culottes never photograph well. Alternate stair pose!
Yes, they are really pants!
The stuff:
Not perhaps the most attractive shoes on the foot with this outfit, but I liked wearing these fringed flats just fine. No rubbing, no soreness, just completely comfy. My toes did get cold in the movie A/C, though!
- Belt - Mimi Di N, thrifted
- Earrings - Joyce's, vintage 80s
And here we are, trying to write this post while someone bugs me for his dinner.
"You need to pay me more attention, Woman." |
The spanish ladies dress (lirub) with your tats look amazing together!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kathryn!
DeleteLove the photos of your social shenanigans always. That ashes-of-lilac color of the kimono is amazing on you. One of these years I want to spend Victoria Day in Victoria!
ReplyDeleteHee, we do know how to have a good time. :) Thank you! You should totally come out here for it!
DeleteOh man if I didn't already have three cats, I would so be stealing this one - he's got soul - the highest compliment we pay a cat (or person - you two have soul too). Love your easy dresses, and your sunnies, and your longer hair. xox

PS - the Spanish ladies are gorgeous as ever.
He is a handful, Patti! I wouldn't wish him on you. Aw, love for the soul right back at you and Sandy, my dear. Thank you!
DeleteI love the Spanish Ladies dress. What a wonderful pattern and it looks so good on you with the orange cardigan. I loved the green dress and cardigan too; your mum's beads are beautiful. The first dress and the blue suede shoes looked very elegant together and you know how I love that fabulous white coat.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like you had a really good chilled weekend and I'm sure Vizzini did too!
Isn't it lovely? I totally lucked out on that purchase. Thanks so much! Vizzini didn't like us being out so much, but he was pretty good (didn't eat anything).
DeleteSo many cute dresses and u guys look like you're always fun!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! We are!!
DeleteSheila- I love your posts and always look forward to them, not just for the fashion and what you've found in the 2nd hand shops, but also for Vizzini's antics..... Also, any fashion that supports New England sports (Boston Bruins) is also top notch! Thanks for all of your hard work with this blog. I love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your awesome comment, Jensena! I really appreciate you reading.
DeleteSo many great looks Sheila. The print on the Joe Fresh dress and how you wore green on green !!
ReplyDeleteYour cat "thoughts" always make me smile. I wonder what my dogs think of me.
You look dashing in that close up picture with and Yvonne.
Before i forget, I saw this http://shopstyle.it/l/yxP and thought of you. It's just like your Fendi belt and look at the price!
Thanks, Lorena! Vizzini definitely things L and I are stupid, ha ha! Thanks for the link - I think my belt is bigger (buckle, wider strap).
DeleteGreat snaps of all of the gang Sheila - thanks for this little peek at your life.
ReplyDeleteI've been smitten with that orange hat since you showed it last time, but thank goodness I found one in the same shape but in lime green so we're all good again now.
Anna x
I post these pics for me and my friends too! It helps me remember all the fun times. :) Oh, I'm so glad you found a lime green hat! That sounds fabulous, Anna!
DeleteWhat a great post. It's fun meeting your friends.
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you! If you came out here, you could meet them all!
DeleteHow amazing is that Spanish Ladies dress! Oh, and I loved reading Vizzini's "comments". He sounds very much like our Phoebe. xxx
ReplyDeleteHe's quite a character, isn't he? I think I've read his mind here. :)
DeleteThe Spanish ladies dress is a keeper for me, for sure!
What a fun long weekend! :) I really like the pretty dresses you wore in this post - I think my favourite has to be the orange accessories with the Spanish ladies dress! I'm waiting for my 6 months of no shopping challenge to be over so I can buy more colourful cardigans!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Mica! I don't have a lot of cardigans, but a few in bright colours are a great way to accessorize a dress or top.
DeleteThis post is going to require several comments. Love that you wear dresses on weekends. You legs look like a movie star's in photo one, if you don't believe me I can crop them out and put them on a fake and regal setting, and you would say ah ha!
ReplyDeleteI am dying to know more about the cream colored coat. love the printed sack dress, for lack of a better word, very chic.
The three tired dress is a beauty and I think the tonal cardi is a great add on.
ok, that is it for comment one, I am going to take a nap. I got up way too early!
hugs beautiful!
xx, Elle

Ha, so long you need a nap to get through it! Elle, you crack me up! I love wearing dresses on the weekends - I used to be super-casual, but then people started recognizing me, so I had to step up my game and "present" better. Thank you so much for your kind compliment on my legs - L is a fan of them also, hee hee.
DeleteThe cream coat is a Lord & Taylor, bought it at a thrift store for about $20. There was a matching short skirt (too big) - both items together screamed "Mother of the Bride". It's a gorgeous fabric, though: sheer, with 3D flowers over a cream backing.
Enjoy your nap!
Three great dresses in this post, but the Spanish Ladies print is my favourite. I LOVE those culottes (I can easily see myself wearing that whole outfit).
ReplyDeleteVizzini is such a handsome boy, and he has a white belly splotch like my kitty! I was so looking forward to the second Guardians of the Galaxy film because I enjoyed the first one so much, but the reviews have been pretty Meh.
I know, me too - I just love that dress. Thank you! I love Vizzini's little belly blaze. :)
DeleteOh yes, the Spanish Ladies Dress is one of my favorites, such a fab print and a fab shape too!, love it! and you look gorgeous wearing it with your orange hat and cute turquoise flats!, so summery, colorful and fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThere are more amazing outfits to comment too!, your gauze dress is lovely, and your kimono and culottes ensemble looks really cool and elegant, love it! (it looks like a perfect outfit to go to the cinema!)
Vizzini knows how to steal the show!, he's so cool!
besos
Me too~ Thank you so much, my dear. Vizzini is a ham for the camera.
DeleteAs usual, your outfits are so unique and stylish. But that Orange hat! It is to live for! Thank you so much for sharing it and your beauty with Hat Attack!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Judith. I love the orange hat and swanned about like a diva in it.
