Iridescent Orange with Dots

Another blasted allergy kicked in last night - I checked the pollen count and yup, alder is high. Whaaa-CHOO! And I'm all stuffed up. Darned trees!
We had intermittent glimpses of sun today, but I was my own blinding sun in the office. This dress calls for sunglasses!

  • Dress - Big Fish, vintage, thrifted; first worn here  during Sparkle Week in December 2016
  • Shoes - Lola Ramona; first worn here with lots of dots in March, and one of my favourite outfits so far of this year
  • Coat (below) - Danier Leather, thrifted

This outfit didn't quite work for me. The belt isn't as bright a white as the shoes, and the proportions look wrong.

I think a wider belt would be better with this dress. Turquoise could be fun, dontcha think? How would you style this dress?
The fabric is a gorgeous iridescent silk shantung of orange and pink - look at that shimmer! And the silk was neither hot nor cold in the office, which was a nice bonus. Silk! Who knew?

Outerwear. It's still leather weather.

I missed my gloves - it's not quite warm enough yet for my bare hands.

The stuff:
I love these shoes. They're so comfy and so funky. Remember when comfy shoes meant ugly shoes? I'm glad for progress!

Silver bling:
The necklace gets the most love.

  • Belt - Esprit, thrifted
  • Necklace - thrifted
  • Earrings - Joyce's, vintage 80s

  1. That dress is amazing! I like how it looks in the first shot, but you are right about the proportions being a titch off. A wider belt might work. But also I wonder about the ankle straps on the shoes. Don't get me wrong--love those shoes! But could that strap at the ankle throw the proportions off? Maybe a plainer pump might complement the dress better. Purple? Teal? Or basic black? The dress is indeed a bright sun! It is also a star, if you know what I mean!!!!

    1. Yes, could be the ankle straps, good call. I feel like the top and bottom of the dress are too equal in length - I wish the skirt were a little longer.

Thank you, Linda! I appreciate your thoughts on this.

  2. I agree, the dress is fantastic! I love an orange dress. I think the shoes and the belt aren't quite right together, but I love the idea of ivory accessories. I thought at first that your necklace was ivory. Since it is silver, what about silver shoes? You are our very own paper doll to dress up!

And in my imagination, you are blonde in this outfit. :-)

    1. Ooh, I do have an ivory necklace, I could try that next time. I do have silver shoes, and I nearly did a silver belt with this. I like it! Thank you!

Ha, you know I have been a blonde, right?

  3. That fabric is all kinds of awesome! I'd love a wide turquoise belt, or maybe black?

    1. Thanks, Erin! I have two turquoise belts that could look good with this. I have a skinny black belt, but I think this needs a wider one.

  4. Yep I am with you, I think you can find a better way to style this beauty. Maybe instead of a belt, just a satin ribbon. Maybe just a pin ?

    1. Hmmm...I don't like ribbon belts for the most part. The dress has a button and a snap at the waist, and I would like to cover that up. I have tried it with no belt, and don't like how it looks, so I think I do need something that defines the waist. Thanks, Lorena!

  5. I do like it in the stair photo but can see what you mean about it looking a little different in the full-length shot. Isn't it funny how angles can change up an outfit completely? Turquoise would look lovely with this, and what about one of your obi belts?

    1. I know! The angles are everything! I agree, I have two turquoise belts that would look great with this - thanks, Mica!

  6. Sweetie, I think you just better wrap this cute little dress up and post it off to me. I'll sort out any styling malfunctions and get it right back to you (in a year or so maybe).

Something is amiss, and I'm loath to say that it maybe needs to have the hem taken down an inch or two. I think having such a big skirt it would look better just a tad longer. Offended? Oh dear, I hope not!

    1. I think I may need to do that! I don't think the dress is quite right on me. I agree on the length, especially compare to the jelly-deer outfit the next day. Nah, you couldn't offend me if you tried, my dear!

  7. Hmmm, it's like the skirt needs to be a bit longer, and then you could wear a wider belt but I don't think it would work with the length it is now.

    1. Yes, agreed. It is just not right on me. Time for it to go to a new home!

  8. Got to see this post through Anna. You could have elongated it yourself haha. Lovely gesture of you to give it to her. And I adore your shoes.
