Leopard, Grommets and Copper

Apologies in advance for the craptastic pictures today - I had lighting challenges as well as vision issues.
It was very dark at 7:30am. I look possessed!

  • Fuzzy leopard top - Lord & Taylor; last worn here in March with red pants
  • Suede skirt - Sandra Anglozzi, thrifted; purchased here in March for $17.95
  • Boots - Clark's; last seen here last Friday night for Greg's party
  • Leather trenchcoat (below) - vintage 70s, thrifted

I can't see if the teeny little picture on the camera screen is in focus. Fingers crossed!

Um, nope, not this time. Maybe I should put my contacts in AFTER I take my pics...

Anyway, enough of that. I really enjoyed this outfit today, heightened by the knowledge that I had taken the afternoon off. It's my birthday party tomorrow night, so I had to lay in supplies (groceries, false eyelashes, candles and batteries). The candles and batteries are in case the power goes out - we'll still have light and music! Good thing we still have a wee ghettoblaster that plays CDs!

This is a nice fuzzy dark leopard top - I like the boxy shape and it's snuggly warm.
First wearing of this awesome grommeted suede skirt - you know I love it when a designer puts the pattern on the back as well as the front!

I look overly excited for someone about to get soaked. My accessories for today are my wool bowler, my skull scarf (10 years old), black leather studded gloves.
I quickly discovered that you have to take little mincing steps in this skirt. No way I'm suffering with that, so I pulled up one side and did my big strides as usual.

The stuff:
Fantastic boots. They go with everything.

Copper bling:
Some of my copper collection. I've been collecting for 30 years, since my Grandma J gave me a 3-piece set when I was in university in the 80s. The copper and turquoise enamel earrings are ones I remember her wearing in the 70s - the backs show her wear pattern - I picked them out of her collection after she died in the late 90s. I always feel her spirit when I wear them.

  • Necklace - vintage 60s, vintage expo
  • Cuffs - all vintage 60s, all vintage fairs or thrifted; cuff with turquoise enamel is by Renoir/Matisse
  • Earrings - vintage 60s, Renoir/Matisse, Grandma J's
Happy weekend, all! Stay tuned on Sunday for my party outfit(s)!

  1. Oh man, I can't stand being dictated by my clothes how to walk, little eentsy mincing wincing steps. Pulling up that sucker is the only way to travel. I suppose you could thread a couple of pulley things through the grommet holes - or maybe the skirt is too stiff for those. At least it looks great. And your blurry photo enhances the fuzziness of the top. Heh. You need a loupe pendant!

    1. Ooh, I love the idea of pulleys on this (you know I would totally do that!). The skirt was soft enough to grab a big handful and stride about, thankfully. I DO need a loupe pendant! Great idea!

  2. I am commenting for the first time. I love your bold and unafraid style. I couldn't do it in my rural town, but since reading your blog I have looked at vintage pieces with a bolder viewpoint and at nearly 62 I think, "What the hell...Who cares?"
I just love the wool bowler hat & I have been looking for one all fall. Going to a rich-ladies-cast-offs-for-charity sale with my daughter next weekend and I hope to score big at the event. Will be channeling your attitude!

    1. Carol, thank you so much for commenting - welcome! Yes, that is exactly the attitude: what does it matter? Who cares?? I am fortunate to live in a (small) city, but even then, my outfits are much more "out there" than most people I see. Your charity sale sounds amazing - good luck!

  5. That skirt is stunning -- the detail on the back as well as the front says quality. Love your copper collection -- my sister has thrifted some great pieces for me. I have the same clamper ball bracelet, and a very similar necklace, both courtesy of her!

    1. It is really lovely to wear (aside from the whole teeny steps thing). I have a copper ball necklace that matches the bracelet - so nice that your sister found those for you!

Fingers crossed the weather improves in time for your party and the candles and battery backups aren't needed!

Sorry I've been so behind on my blog reading! Hope you're having a wonderful weekend :)

  8. Isn't it a bore that clothing constricts your walking. I've did the hitching up the skirt thing too, or I wouldn't have been able to get on the bus! I'm loving the boots and all your jewellery. xxx

    1. Completely! Like, don't they test these things out on real people first? Thanks so much!

  9. I like your priorities for the party..."groceries,false eyelashes, candles, batteries..." A girl's got to look good, be seen and enjoy her party! And I love a woman who just lifts up her skirt and takes the big steps she needs to take - no walking on the ice steps (as I learned when in Canada in November a couple of years ago :) Oo Ah very nice outfit!! xx
