Ah, what a wonderful weekend! I feel happy, rested and loved. And isn't that just the best ever?
Saturday, L and I walked to town for brunch. It was rainy and windy out (storm warnings still in effect), and I had an eye appointment later in the afternoon.
Taking pictures with my glasses on - shockingly, those pictures are in focus! Will wonders never cease?- Dress - Naughty; last seen here a full year ago in October 2015 with a shirt underneath
- Boots - 1883 Lucchesse, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in September with a painty poppy skirt
- Leather jacket (below) - corporate swag from around 2007, from my old job
This dress is a cotton blend with a flannel feel on the outside. I love how it does a faux wrap across the bodice, and has that big gather of fabric across the front. In the wind, it was opening wide up on me - a bit of a pain, but not bad.
I bought this dress for $30.00 at Dots back in 2011 and have worn it quite a bit. I nearly always accessorize it with red/burgundy due to the red stripe in it. And it did make a liar of me, since I only wore it once all of last fall/winter. I rarely wear it to work, so it tends to default to a brunch dress.
Good boots for walking in the rain.
I wore a vintage half-slip underneath it.
The blue tights weren't visible until the wind whipped the dress open!
Outerwear:
"You need more cat in your pictures. You're welcome." |
The stuff:
Must have my contacts in...I got a monovision (?) contact for my left/weaker eye, so that I can have better close-up vision, but the 12-14" in front of my face still eludes me.
Badass bling:
I can't resist a little punk edge. The earrings are bird skulls.
- Belt - Plum
- Leather cuff - Guess, thrifted
- Studded cuff - 90s
I had a little time before my eye appointment, so I wandered over to She She Shoes to see if they had anything I could spend my $200 gift certificate on. Let's just say... YES.
Crusted with green and rainbow-hued glitter, lined in leather, and with the now-trendy 70s chunky heel, I fell hard for these sweet Shellys London heels.
I mean...
I'm speechless. I showed my eye doctor and all the ladies on the desk - all were appropriately awed.
Okay, now gird your loins, friends...here are my TWO party outfits. And I'm warning you now...I wore wigs.
I am not sure why touching my shoulder was a thing. |
- Dress - BCBG Max Azria, thrifted; purchased here in May for $39.95
- Shoes - Channi B; last seen here in September with dots and pearls
Again with the arm! |
I also wasn't loving this wig all that much. Too much forehead. You might remember this wig from my adventure in the Traveling Yellow Skirt Freak Show here in November 2013.
I shed feathers all night! Or at least, until I changed.
The stuff:
I loved these shoes - they were perfect for standing around and gabbing to our 20 or so guests.
Dragon bling:
L bought me this set of necklace and bracelet a few years ago for my birthday - it's nice to show it off.
- Bracelet/necklace - vintage 30s, vintage expo, gift from L
- Earrings - thrifted
At 10:30pm I changed outfits. As one does - or at least, as I do!
And voila, I am a movie star!
- Dress - Ralph Lauren blue label; thrifted here in May for $8.00
- Shoes - Shellys London; purchased above for $200.00
Some of you might recognize this blonde wig from our 70s party a couple of years ago here in October 2013. You might not recognize me, though!
Full confession: after I looked at these pictures, I wore a shaper piece for the party under both dresses (one of those under-boob to just above the knee spanx-y things). I felt smoother, although going to the bathroom was a huge pain and I ripped out a bunch of feathers from the hem of the black dress that got trapped in it. This is only the second time I've ever worn a shaper - I'm not ashamed, but I really prefer not to wear them.
However, isn't the dress amazing?
"I don't know who this blonde woman is, but maybe she will feed me." |
The stuff:
I had to wear the new shoes! They were relatively comfortable, and I wore them until 2am, when the last of our guests got in their taxis to go home. What a party!
Copper bling:
More of my collection!
- Thin bracelet - Renoir, vintage 60s, thrifted
- Wide bracelet - Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage fair
- Necklace/hinged cuff - Renoir, vintage 60s, Grandma J's
- Cuff with enamel - Matisse/Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage fair
- Plain ring - vintage fair
- Ring with turquoise - vintage, Grandma J's
- Earrings with enamel - Matisse/Renoir, vintage 60s, Grandma J's
My roots are horrendous (not that I needed a reason to wear a wig!), but here's my party make-up.
I see my camera in the mirror! |
L looked very fine in his party clothes. He is recovering from his latest tattoo (his right forearm), so did a slightly more casual vibe.
A brocade red shirt, a vintage vest, Etro wool trousers, and his fedora. He always drinks his rum and Cokes out of the Goblet of Rock.
Linking up to "Visible Monday" over at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style!
You are rocking all the looks .. and the blonde you are seriously rocking it...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Celia! I had a lot of fun wearing all of them!
DeleteThe wigs just show you rock any hair colour Sheila! :) I really really like your sparkly glitter shoes - how could anyone not, really! THey are perfect with that beautiful red Ralph Lauren dress, definitely looking movie-star red carpet ready! Glad you had a very fun weekend celebrating your birthday.
ReplyDeleteHa, thank you, Mica! The shoes are to die for - I totally love them, and can't wait to wear them again. The Lauren dress is actually a dark orange/rust colour. Thank you!
DeleteYou are so adorable and fetching in your wigs - and both party dresses are to-swoon-for! And I love the chill pic of L. Thanks for linking, stay fabulous, xox

Thanks, Patti! L is always a chill fellow.
DeleteIt is just so amazing how a change of hair colour/style can transform a person!
ReplyDeleteI loved your blonde wig and slinky red dress combo - fabulous. I actually didn't recognise you at first in the black lace and feathered dress with the red wig - you looked lovely and I loved the turquoise silver elephant set L bought you.
The dress with gather at the front in the first photo was rather lovely and I especially like it with the leather jacket.
Have a lovely week

Thanks so much, Veronica! Ha, you didn't recognize me - many of my friends didn't either. The blonde/orange dress (the dress is actually dark orange/rust) was my favourite too. The set of jewelry from L is dragons, not elephants - it's so cool.
DeleteThank you!
Oh honey!!!! I am LOVING both party outfits! What a blast - you have definitely set the bar for all future parties. LOVE LOVE LOVE the feathers....and that red YOWSA dress. Oh, I would have loved to see everyone's reactions. Sweet new heels too...fairytale, party, all in one! love you dear friend. happy birthday belatedly. xxoocaro

DeleteYour gowns are things of beauty. While I have never changed in the middle of a party, I salute you for providing that perfect one-two birthday punch.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, velma!
DeleteTalk about full-on bombshell, va-va-va-voom! That black leather/feather dress is stunning but so is the red one. A belated happy birthday, Sheila, and thanks for sharing all your looks.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Cynthia! The dress is actually a dark orange/rust.
DeleteYour new Shelly's heels are a.m.a.z.i.n.g. and you looked so hot She - those dresses fit you so well and I absolutely love how you played with those wigs.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lorena! Aw, you are too sweet.
DeleteFABULOUS! You're unique, amazing, thanks for sharing your festivities! From all this, life is only going to get more fun for you. xx
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, Elizabeth, and thank you so much for your kind words!
DeleteLove the purple locks with and without Le Le Chapeau Chapeau. Fabby plaid dress , love that you wore a 1/2 slip, smart, and love the blue stockings.
ReplyDeleteThe glitter shoes are so Glenda the Good Witch, I LOVE them, ( and have a similar pair, two actually)
Now tell me truthfully, you were blonde for a bit, was it not fun?
Now perhaps, I should try purple, I would, but too much porous white marble in my bathrooms. I can see the color leeching out and staining my tiles, which might be a nice change...
OK...
Delicious black fringed dress, Love it,- and the tips of fingers seem to belong there on the shoulder, just go with it.
Great red dress! Spanx and all.
Love the Etro trousers on L. now please go tend to your feline!
Kisses from NYC,

Thanks, Elle! I've been blonde before (wig and dyed), and yes, it's always fun! The purple stuff I use (Splat) is VERY messy and very stain-making. I so appreciate all your feedback, thank you! Vizzini is well cared for!
DeleteWow - just love that blonde wig and red dress glamour look! I'm not big on wearing spanx but sometimes it's the only way to get a smooth outline, and hey you do look fabulous baby. And oh my goodness, those shoes are utterly adorable. They make my heart go all a flutter. Never, ever give them up, Sheila. They are out of this world x
ReplyDeleteAnna
Thanks so much, Anna! It was my favourite outfit by far, spanx and all. I know, I will be wearing the shoes again soon!
DeleteOh wow how hot you look. I love both, but they are totally different.
ReplyDeleteGreetje
Thank you! It was really fun to dress up.
