Bright and Shiny in Brocade (and Some Boob-Talk)

I don't know about you guys, but I am liking some of the things that are "in" for fall with the cool kids. Velvets and brocade? Bring it on!
I never met a brocade I didn't like. Especial when it's gold, pink and red.

  • Jacket - Aldo, thrifted; last seen here in November 2015 with leather and lace
  • Top -  Gap, consignment; purchased here for $9.50
  • Pants - Banana Republic, thrifted; last seen here (3rd outfit) in July for Winesday
  • Shoes - Modern Vintage, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in June (hey, I should be in a magazine)

As we get closer to September, and the end of the spring/summer wardrobe, I'm again looking at all the non-turned-around hangars in my closet. This jacket has not been worn this season! Outrageous! It's so freaking shiny.
Other than that, I didn't make much effort: pants, yup, flat shoes, yup.

I did wear one of my new bras today - very exciting. Check it out, yo! And be ready for some boob-talk.
"You'll put your eye out!"
Being a "t-shirt" bra, this one makes my boobs rounded (it's very slightly padded). This is also as high as they go - I'm never going to have the boob-shelf much higher than this. I can't do push-up bras because my boobs are...um...liquid-y and they smush around like water balloons and could pop out at any second (it's happened!). You're welcome for the image, hee hee. I also bought two more rigid shaping bras (very expensive!) that give me more lift and definition, and are more suited for tailored clothing.

I'm big-boobed (34DD), I have a rounded, flabby tummy (I have a lot of loose skin from losing 50 lbs many years ago), and I'm 5'4" and weigh less than 140 lbs - I have a small frame and my boobs take up a lot of acreage. I like my shape (although gravity is a nasty thing currently wreaking havoc on me) and I try to dress to suit what I've got. So there you go. More than you probably wanted to know about my boobs.

The stuff:
These shoes are getting worn out, but they are so comfy. I'll be sad when they leave my closet.

Gold bling:
I probably didn't need more gold with that jacket, but nothing exceeds like excess, I often say!

  1. That is a stunning jacket, I'm glad you got it out for a wear! :)

I find the right bra really makes a difference boob-wise, although the good ones are often expensive. Over the years I've gotten rid of the clothes that required particular bras to wear, but it is interesting how different things can look with a different bra!

    1. Thanks, Mica! It's just too cool to languish in my closet for long. Yeah, bras make a huge difference, but gah, the price is just sooooo much. However, I do need to look at them with a "cost per wear" view.

  3. PS 34DD might seem big, but from where I'm sitting 38GG I dream of being so small... <3

  4. Isn't it amazing how a stellar jacket can really vamp up an otherwise "normal" outfit? (btw...I looked back and really like the Elizabethan collar with it too!). Boobage...always an issue for me. But there isn't a day goes by that I remind myself how grateful I am that I have them. GOOD bras ARE expensive. I recently spent about $200 for three of them. Far cry from the Playtex 32AAA's I wore in junior high! Rock on, girlfriend!

    1. Yep, it really can - it's a boring outfit without it! I used to be so cheap about bras, but they really do make a difference, and they are worth it! Thanks, Susan!

  5. I've learned we all have body-issues. I never noticed yours until you mentioned them. We're probably all more conscious of our issues than other people are aware of them.

    1. Exactly why I mentioned them - we are all more preoccupied with ourselves than others are!

  6. That is a stellar jacket, stellar! This is its first wearing this season but only because you have so many other fantastic pieces. Fabulous T-shirt bra too. I've read that this style is becoming more and more popular, but I can't see how the architectural ones will ever be replaced when size issues are involved. Me, back to the Girls Dept. for bubblegum pink. Ugh.

    1. Thank you, m'dear! I hate t-shirt bras - all that foamy crap, which I don't want or need. I think I have boob envy of you.

  7. Yea for the new bras! Sorry but I do think the right bra fit makes a world of difference in how clothing looks. It's 36D here and I understand the expense issue. Been finding mine on Ebay lately which takes a lot of the bite out. Love your honesty and style. Keep it up (and the girls too. hahaha)

    1. I have to try them on, Sandy - even the "right" size can be wrong. Thanks!

  8. Oh Sheila we're boob twins! I'm the same size and yes they do darn well take up alot of acreage! And the 'smush around like water balloons' had me chuckling as I so so so know what that means. And when the heck did bras get so flippin' expensive. Tragic as I get through so many.

Still, on the up side, that coat is knockout. Bring on the brocade and the velvet I say.

I also never met a brocade I did not like.
And I am just catching up... I see you're sporting a new bra.

  10. That jacket is GORGEOUS. I've just started chewing on the idea of hunting for a (thrifted) statement jacket and love seeing you wear one in real life ( not just for costume parties/weddings/magazine cover shoots). Better get cracking if I want to find one that good!

    1. I know, when I first saw it I gasped out loud! I adore statement anything, really, but a jacket is so easy. There are lots out there!

  11. I'm with you on the velvet and brocade thing - can't get enough of them either. I love this look, all the emphasis is on the jacket which does allow you to relax with easy trousers and shoes, perfect. You're a brave girl to share all your stats here. My boobs are the size of a postage stamp after a total of 5 years of breast feeding - talk about TMI! Anyway, I rely on padded bras for my curves. See me in my swimsuit and that's my real shape. My sexuality doesn't rely on great boobs obviously!

    1. I love a luxurious fabric. Ha, I don't mind. I think it might help some readers to get a better idea of how I shop and clothe myself. And yes, boobs do not equal sexuality!

  12. I'm thrilled that brocade and velvet are coming back into mainstream vogue again. Both are fabrics that I could gleefully live in 24/7 (and which my inner goth girl especially appreciates).

This is such a glam, elegant ensemble. That coat is the sort of thing that brocade dreams are made of.

  13. It is soooo true that a well-fitting bra can make a huge difference to how you look. I have a devil of a time trying to find one to fit me (I'm between a B and a C cup, and a 36 - 38, so usually they are all a little too tight, or a little too big.

Brocade is always in, no matter what the Cool Kids are wearing (and we are still cool kids, right???)

      We are totally cool kids!
