Weekend Wrap-Up: Ulti Outfit, Chartreuse for the Theatre, Shopping Scores

Well, I need a nap - it's been quite the weekend!

After a fun evening of board games on Friday night, L and I played Ultimate Frisbee on Saturday morning.
Loose layers for a 30+ degree day (close to 100 on that other scale).

  • Top - Two Women and a Trunk, thrifted; last worn a week ago here (2nd outfit) for grocery shopping
  • Skirt - Marciano, gift from Caro; last worn here (2nd outfit) for a June trip to Sidney, nearly identical outfit
  • Sandals - Born, consignment; last seen here (3rd outfit) a couple of weeks ago for a park afternoon

L packing up all our gear - discs, cones, water, cleats, etc.
We sold our little blue Miata convertible last week so now we have to walk to the field, and carry all our stuff.
It's all about logistics
We had to carry it all home too! It was hard. I'm going to miss having a car (said the woman without a drivers licence).

The stuff:
I haven't played Ulti for a few weeks, and I knew my feet would be aching - cleats are not very comfortable to wear. These sandals felt so good after.

  • Earrings - 5th anniversary gift from L

It was a really hot sunny day, so we were all just dying in the heat. More sunblock!
"I just roll with it, as all cool cats do."
Vizzini just loves this hot weather. He flops all over the place.

I'd planned a nap after brunch, then a nice shower before Mom came over, but all this walking caused us to be later than planned.
Jump in the shower and off to the theatre!

  • Dress - Mary Jo Bruno, consignment; last seen here in July for the Swan's gang reunion
  • Shoes - Ralph Lauren, thrifted; last worn here in June with emerald and houndstooth

We walked down to the Belfry Theatre for "Mom's the Word," a play that I found difficult to relate to, since I don't have children. About the play here, and a review here.

However, my theatre dates with Mom are more about us spending the time together and less about the plays themselves - we always have great conversations talking about them after.
We went out for dinner from there, and then strolled home in the waning early evening.

The stuff:
I hobbled a bit walking in these shoes, even though they are comfy as heck. My legs were pretty sore from the Ulti game.

Bling:
Uncomplicated and good for sitting in.

  • Belt - Mimi di N, thrifted
  • Earring and cuff - local
  • Stud - don't remember

When I got home, L was studying for a job interview next week. Vizzini helped.
"Put down: Good with cats."
L and I hung out and played games and drank wine all evening - a lovely time was had by all.

I was up bright and early this morning to head to town to buy my groceries.
Covered from the sun, and ready to do some shopping after!

  • Cardigan - Jacob, thrifted; last seen here (6th outfit) as sunblock/cover in June
  • Cami - Esprit - I don't track these anymore
  • Skirt - Concept XXV, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) in May for brunch
  • Shoes - Born, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) last weekend for groceries

After I got groceries (thank you, I'll have them delivered), I walked to Fairfield to meet up with Yvonne for a shop at My Sister's Closet. It's our favourite consignment store.
Fully sunblocked - no sun on me!

The stuff:
Easy walking shoes (I'm even stiffer today!).

  • Earrings/ring - local

And what a lucky day it was! The store is having a half-price sale! Everything was on 50% off. Woo hoo!

I found two dresses. This one is by H&M.
I adore the bright turquoisey-green of this one. The sleeves mostly cover my tattoo and it has pockets.

I like the pebbled texture. It was $9.50.

This dress is why I always go through all the sizes. It was marked a size 12.
Front
It's not. It's more like a size 8 (and it's not vintage either). I like the black blocking on it, and the slight high-low hemline.

This fully covers my tattoo (a consideration now). It's by Seduce and on the tag its says it's designed in Australia. Are Australian sizes different than North America?
Back
Oh, yes, according to their size chart, an Aussie 12 is a US 8 - that's about right. And wow, looking at their site (here, linking 'cause I love), their dresses are not cheap! I guess I got a deal with this dress being all of $13.50. Australian dollars are equivalent to Canadian dollars right now, FYI. A little more research reveals this is called the Neo Bloom Contrast dress.

I've been looking to replace some of my cheap camis with "real" tops. I found this lovely sweater-weight Gap top for $9.50.
It's from 2003, so 13 years old - and looks like it's never been worn!

Another little sweater-weight top replaces my black top of the other day.
It's by INC and was $8.50.

This periwinkle blue sweater is a thin knit - the neckline is great on me, as is the colour.
It's by Rachel Roy and was $11.50.

This is a silk blouse in cream and navy. Do you see the birds?
It's by Tory Burch, and I'm sure it cost a lot more retail than the $12.50 I paid!
It's all birds!

Nice little details.
The buttons are metal, a nice high-end finish.

I actually tried on and put this blouse back last time I shopped here - I couldn't pay $28.95 for it. It felt like too much.
But for $14.50, I was thrilled to take it home!

It's by Ralph Lauren, it's sheer and get a load of these ruffles!
So. Many. Ruffles! I hear they are a thing for fall.

As are capelets:
This is the softest t-shirt fabric - I am fairly sure it's actually bamboo, it's so soft.

A pretty chrysanthemum:
I used to have a capelet by Floating Gold Iceberg (this one, back in January 2013) which I purchased for $34.00 new. This is very similar, either by them or maybe Smoking Lily. Either way, it was all of $7.50. It's a great tattoo cover/office A/C cover up.

Yvonne and I had huge laughs while shopping. We spent over 3 hours shopping, going through every rack, and did 3 massive try-ons of clothes, swapping things around. We each bought these same camo pants, for $9.50. It's rare to see the exact same thing (one pair in each of our sizes too!) in a second-hand store, much less have them look great on both of us.

They are the broken-in straight-leg khaki by Gap, from 2014.
I have never owned anything camo, so I'm excited to style these!

I'm off to make dinner and chill out with L for the evening. And how was your weekend?

  1. I'm looking forward to seeing how you wear the camo pants! :)

Nice you found a little Aussie dress all the way on the other side of the world too - you really can find a lot in a thrift store if you have the time to hunt :) I'm missing doing so. I pass one that is usually really good each week with the two boys but I haven't done shopping with the both of them yet. Last time I shopped there I was picking up baby clothes when still pregnant and toddler T got bored and started playing with the toys and messing the display up, haha!

    1. I'm excited to style them, Mica! I know, I thought of you when I found the dress! I can't imagine toddlers would be good for shopping with - at My Sister's Closet, they actually have a play area with toys for kids while Mom shops! You need a store like that!

  2. Ooohh, what a bevy of great finds! I especially like the blue dress and B&W printed blouse. So true about sizing. I haven't cared what number was on a tag in years. Fit trumps all, in my books, especially when - between modern and vintage - I have a range spanning a modern 2 to a vintage 16 (or maybe even one or two 18s, not sure) in my closet at the moment, all of which fit me great. Measurements over tag numbers is my motto. :D

    1. Thank you! That dress is actually a bright greeny-turquoise shade, and the blouse is cream and navy blue. Yeah, I ignore sizes too, but it still amuses me when I see them all over the place! That is an excellent motto!

  3. What a great way to match your accessories for the theatre function : though leaves!
I love your shopping posts and cannot believe that dress (turquoise) was actually H&M. I am not sure about the Australian dress but I have to say you do know how to shop.

    1. Yes, I like doing a motif-theme sometimes! I am often boggled that there are nice H&M things. The Aussie dress is one of those ones that looks better on.

  4. Am gradually catching up (from most recent backwards) on all of your posts honey. Todays' star piece is the dress you wore to the theatre - I love the shape, the colour, the fit. You and I have another thing in common, as I don't drive either. Never have wanted to as I like being chauffered around hahaha!
    Have a great week x
