Is it just me or has there been a drastic downturn in blog readers/commenters? I feel like I've done something, said something...? Are my outfits that terrible?
I should know this by now, after blogging since 2008 - August is always dead! But I can't help feeling it's me.- Dress - Seduce, consignment; purchased here on the weekend for $13.50
- Shoes - Prepare Guide, Fluevog; last seen here in July with the boob window dress
Today was another toasty hot day. Walking to work, then to my WW meeting, then home in this...phew, I was warm. I did love this "stained glass" dress!
Such a cool dress - the shoulders actually make squares! It was a smidge short in the front, but I just monitored that and all was good. Knees together!
The stuff:
Tried and true in turquoise blue!
Matchy bling:
I like my accessories to match both in colour and form. Geometric dress, geometric jewelry.
- Cuff - Bauxo
- Earrings - Caracol
- Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
Maybe cat pictures will help.
"Nope, it's totally you." |
"You mean, MY readers?" |
"We should go up there and chase them." |
"Colour me bored with you." |
"Okay, maybe just one." |
I will admit I'm not commenting anywhere much these days. It's too hot. I did almost comment on your post from yesterday before I melted (I tend to read on the bus) because I think brown is the ultimate summer neutral!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I hear ya. Thanks, Cara! I don't do as much brown as I once did, but it's still a staple.
DeleteI love those shoes. Really anything in that color! Poor kitty, so hot.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, Vizzini is very floppy in the heat.
DeleteSheila, it's not you, it's us! definitely. (I'm still reading everyday, and commenting almost never, which is my normal ... but also, NOT on vacation — rather, clobbered with work! Is that just me??)
ReplyDeleteI capital-L Loved yesterday's shoes, and think today's dress and cuff are just fab. You continue to inspire! (and to make me so jealous of your mad thrifting/consigning skills, which are almost too good to be believed!)
Thanks: it's always such fun to stop by!
Oh, I know, I'm just being silly, but thank you for commenting, Sherry! Thanks so much for the compliments. I do love to shop - I think I could win gold in the shopping Olympics, ha ha!
DeleteThis dress looks fabulous on you! And it's all about it being August. Vacations, slowdowns, too hot to even think let alone comment. Gotta love summer!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol! Yes, this happens every year - summer is so precious!
DeleteI read from my feed, so to comment, I need to click into your website, but I'm here!
ReplyDeleteLooking at the pics of the stained glass dress, IF that front hemline limits the dress's functionality for you, a black underskirt insert would coordinate with the black sides. You would lose the high low aspect, but gain a bit of length.
Thank you for reading, LB! And thanks for taking the time to comment.
DeleteOh, such a good idea on the dress!! I could do a slip or an actual skirt - I was thinking this would be great with tights in cooler weather as well.
Do not fret! We're all with you...it's just that, well, isn't this the dog days of summer? I love this dress. It LOOKS like it should feel cool on a hot day. But if you say it isn't, then it isn't. Again, you're rockin' it with those shoes, girlfriend. This particular pair is one that I'm particularly fond of. Stay KEWL, Sheila!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan, and yeah, I know - this happens every year. Thank you so much - but no, the dress is fully lined, and is mostly polyester so not very breathable. Thanks so much for reading!
Deletep.s. I'm back to blogging. If you're so inclined to following me, I'd be delighted!
DeleteI am here! Enjoying every post that comes over on Feedly. Those shoes are my favorite. The color just gets me.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for reading, Sarah! Heh, I like all this love for the shoes.
DeletePretty and unusual dress. I believe the downturn you're seeing (which we're all seeing) is because of Summer. People go outside and blog less now. And visit blogs less. Traffic normally picks up in September, especially as attention turns to Fall fashions.
ReplyDeleteGlad it's not just me - thank you, my dear! I know it will turn around.
DeleteYah...the dog days of summer is apt...at least for most of North America. And there is the Olympics too. LOL...of course we have to comment on Vizzini...he says the darnedest things!
ReplyDeleteThe cat days of summer, I think Vizzini would say! Yes, of course, the Olympics are also pulling attention off blogs. Thanks, Sue!
DeleteA million miles away from it, dear Shelia. Your outfits are always jaw droppingly dazzling, richly inspired, and a true pleasure to see. It's merely the infamous summer blogging slump out in full force. I encounter it every summer without fail (and then a smaller version again around certain major holidays - chief amongst which is Christmas). Give things a few weeks, once we're into fall, and chances are your numbers will bounce back in full force.
ReplyDeletexoxo ♥ Jessica
Aw, thank you, Jessica! I really appreciate your wonderful comments, and I'm so happy to have "discovered" you this year! Yeah, I know, it's summer - I should know this by now!
DeleteI'm here, vicariously enjoying every single one of your blog posts, be they winter, spring, summer or fall! For what it's worth, August slows down where I am; neighbors high tail it out of town for vacation, leaving people like me to enjoy the peacefulness on the roads, in the neighborhood, and especially in our local swimming pool!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Laurie! I really do appreciate your comments. Ah, a swimming pool sounds really good!
DeleteIt is summer time and people are away on holidays and maybe taking a break from social media...I still look forward to your posts everyday, but have not been commenting, the dog days of Summer... I will make a point of posting; do not give up on your posts as I love to see your creativity!!
ReplyDeleteI know, and I should be familiar with this pattern by now, sigh. Thanks so much for your encouragement, Pam!
DeleteTotally not you. I've been reading you every day, but in that Unroll me thingee, so not clicking through. I will now. I LOVE your style. Love. And having recently taken a trip to Victoria, B.C., I am incredibly envious of your environs.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jean! If you're ever back in my neck of the woods, let me know and I'll take you shopping. :) Thanks so much for the reassurance - I do appreciate it.
DeleteI read every day from 'down under' and I almost never comment (though I did mutter to myself about the bra comment). Love your blog Sheila, you are an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Lynette! (I also muttered about the bra comment but...lettin' it go...).
DeleteDear Sheila, I have never commented on a blog until today :) You, ( Mel and Suzanne as well) have inspired me to reconsider my relationship with style! I so appreciate your attention to creativity and your focus on second hand clothing! You have changed the way this 57 year old political activist thinks! Gracias companera and keep on rocking!
DeleteI love that dress! :) And cat pictures always help, hehe! It's interesting, I haven't really noticed a pattern to comments on my blog buy I'm going to pay more attention to it now!
ReplyDeleteI know I haven't been commenting on other blogs much as by the time I get to read the posts they are quite old - dealing with a few illnesses with the boys and I!
Funny how cat pictures make a difference! I so much appreciate your comments, thank you, Mica!
DeleteDefinitely not you. I know I've gotten away from blogger as a whole, moving on to instagram for picture based webby things. I'm rarely on my laptop as much these days, but my phone is always with me so it's just been easier.
ReplyDeleteBut I do always try to stop in and read my favorite blogs when I can.
Life happens, unfortunately.
Yeah, I know...I should know this by now - but it was such a dramatic drop, from one week of 6-8 comments per post, to zero!
DeleteHope you are well, my dear! I miss seeing you!
It's not you Sheila - it's the time of year. People are on vacation or just want to be outside doing things. It's been disgustingly hot here, and I have had pneumonia for going on three weeks now and haven't been posting, or commenting much at all this month. I do look at your posts regularly though!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Shelley - I know people are busy. I hope you are feeling better - I've missed seeing your awesome posts!
DeleteI just love all your purchases; the colors and fabric are gorgeous; you look so great; the way you dress conceals all of your "bad" parts....you do it so well....love the sounds of your bra's..what make are they..I love Chantelle and find it hard to wear anything else...they are expensive but really do a swell job for my body parts....will be anxious to see what you are up to next!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pam! One of my bras is by Bali (the t-shirt one), the other is by Wacoal. Both were expensive, but on sale.
DeleteWell in my case, I was away for a week ;)
ReplyDeletebut I do agree numbers are down in August.
It's hard not to feel like it's you, isn't it?
DeleteGuilty as charged Sheila. Although, in my defence, I did warn everyone that the summer exhibitions would be taking it's toll with my visits to other blogs. It seems that everyone has been shaken out of the woodwork though! We still love you baby x
ReplyDeleteAnna
I know, and I shouldn't be such a whiner. Thank you so much for stopping by!
DeleteThose gorgeous shoes again, I love them. No, Sheila there's nothing wrong with you :) I love to read all my favourite blogs but as I said down your posting list a bit, I'm still catching up after being away. As a new blogger, I only discovered yesterday that many many more people have viewed my blog than have commented and that feels good. Just stay with it, you're fabulous - even without a single comment. xx
ReplyDeletePeople either love them or hate them! Thanks so much for your kind words, Elizabeth! I know people are busy. I do check the stats, so I know that people are reading, but we bloggers live for the comments.
