Blue, Magenta and Blah

I just love everyone being away on vacation at the office! I can do stuff, and I can chill a bit. It's nice. I must enjoy it now - it'll be crazy again when September comes.
I was overall not happy with my outfit today.

  • Jacket - Suzy Shier, thrifted; first worn here in June with a colourful strapless dress
  • Top - Club Monaco, thrifted; last seen here in June layered under a kimono jacket
  • Pants - Ralph Lauren, consignment; last worn here in July with pink plaid
  • Shoes - Irregular Choice Star Wars "I Know", gift from Louise; last seen here in May with dots and stripes

Don't get me wrong. I love the parts. I love this little blue jacket...but it felt too fitted to also be with fitted pants.

I like the white top...but the neckline was too high, giving me too much acreage in the chestal region. A lower neckline or maybe a long necklace or scarf to break it up?
That has to be the worst picture of my butt ever. And while I like these pants very much, they just weren't right with the other pieces.

The stuff:
Of course, I adore my Star Wars shoes! But it was so dead at work that no one even noticed them!

Garbled bling:
Even my accessories didn't feel right. Heart pin = wrong. Earrings = right, but not with this outfit.

  • Brooch - Smoking Lily
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

Ever have one of those outfit days, when nothing is quite right? Whelp, guess I'll just get right back on this fashionable horse and try again tomorrow!

  1. It looks like a wonderful outfit to me - I just love the colour combination. Makes me want to hunt out my magenta handbag again now!
But I definitely understand those days when you just aren't enjoying your outfit, happens to me frequently. I'm now starting to pay close attention when I don't like an outfit, I'll go back on the blog and if I wasn't impressed the last time I wore something either it means it has to go. It's slowly helping me downsize my wardrobe :)

    1. Thanks, sweetie - I appreciate that. It really does help to go back and look at past items, doesn't it?

  2. At first glance I actually loved the color combo and how it fits you -
However after you explained why you did not like I understood and considering that, the only thing I would have done is add a longer shirt.

    1. I don't think a longer shirt would solve it - but I do have a boxier and longer blazer in the same colour that I wish I'd done instead. Ah well!

  3. I getcha with the jacket thing...maybe a roomier, bell-ish sleeved with big covered buttons, not so tailored would do the trick. Ah, but those SHOES!!!

    1. I have to be careful with jackets - any hint of a swing coat shape makes me look pregnant. I know, thank goodness for the shoes!

    2. I getcha AGAIN about the swing jacket...precisely why I don't wear them. To look p.g. at 69 is something else again.

  4. The color combination is gorgeous, but I agree that maybe the jacket is too fitted with the fitted pants? And I think the top is fine, but maybe a different necklace, or a scarf, would have suited you better. Either way, your hair is amazing and that's really all that matters. ;-)

    1. Yes, that's exactly it - I needed your sage advice, Gracey! Thank you - I just dyed my hair a couple of days ago.

  5. I totally get what you are saying. The outfit you put together in your head looks so much better than reality. The same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago when I tried to change things up style wise. The outfit was a disaster and I wound up feeling meh all day and knowing that I can do better. It's a blow to your fashionista self-esteem when your outfit doesn't make you feel good. I do love the colour combination on you though. I agree that a long necklace would help break up the three blocks of colour. I think that might have been what was wrong with the outfit. A scarf or necklace could have tied everything together.

I think you have amazing style, and love how you wear colours and prints that most people would run away from. I know I wouldn't be able to wear magenta and royal blue together. You make it look easy.

    1. Thank you, Sandra, yes, that's exactly it! I don't usually have mis-steps like this (although nice to know they can still happen). I definitely think something to break up all that whiteness would have helped. Aw, thanks for that very sweet compliment!

    2. You are very welcome. You inspired me to wear blue and magenta together, although my outfit isn't as bold as yours.:) I'm wearing a brown dress with a cobalt cropped jacket and paired it with a magenta purse and tribal print blue wedges. I like how the outfit worked out. Thanks for the inspiration. :)

  6. I have had those kind of outfit days where the idea was definitely better than the reality, and you end up feeling yucky all day. Other people may think "what's the problem, it's fine", but we know that we can be so much better than "Fine"! I like the colours you're wearing, but the shapes just aren't doing it.

    1. Thank you - yes, I knew you'd get it. I had this vision...and this is not it.

  7. Colour palette wise, I just adore this outfit (raspberry/fuschia, white and royal blue are radiant together), but do see your point about it needing a little something else. I feel like a longer line in the front could perhaps do the trick (scarf, necklace, vest, etc). It's really nice as is though. Your way with colour pairing makes everything you wear a feast for the eyes.

    1. I like the colours too, but it's a swing and a miss on the shapes. Shoulda put more time into it!

  8. Rabbie Burns, the Scottish poet said - "O, wad some Power the giftie gie us to see oursels as others see us!" I think today you're far too critical. The whole outfit is exactly as I would wear it. Short jacket, check. Round neckline, check. Glorious trousers, check. Rear, well it looks like a rear to me, but heck I've just published a post complaining about mine, haven't I? You look amazing, day after day, outfit after stunning outfit. You're my style hero x
