Special Occasion: Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

Sorry I'm a little late posting my outfit (I'm sure many of you have been champing at the bit to see what I wore, haha) but I had a very late night on New Year's Eve, compounded by possibly the Worst Hangover Ever, followed by a day of work. It's just exhausting thinking about it.

So...here it is. The Betsey Johnson dress:
It was half-price, but I can't actually tell you how much it was because my husband might read my blog. But hey, it's my money, so there. I thought I would shake up the dress in true Betsey style and do hot pink tights with it! Yee haw! I felt very eccentric and madcap.

A close-up of the dress fabric, shoe and accessories.
The dress is cobalt blue with a flower pattern stitched in, which is then cut out to expose the emerald green satin lining. Just freakin' gorgeous! And of course, with all that colour, my neutral is silver and crystals.

I spent most of the night in my runners, as we walked to the restaurant downtown (shoes on once we arrived), then walked to another couple's house, then walked home. I, er, do not recall the walk home.

Question for all you fashionistas out there: how else would you wear this dress? I'm looking for options. By the way, the halter strap is removeable, as is the belt.

Hope you all had a safe and happy New Year's!

Dress (Betsey Johnson), tights (Mondor), shoes (Jessica Simpson), earrings (Guess), bracelet (Plum), ring (Melanie Lynne).

  1. Holy cow -- that dress is unbelievably gorgeous! I just love, love, love those colors...that blue is so rich, and with the green cut-outs you described it's so utterly unique.

How else to wear it? Hmmmm, well, I could see some sort of shrug type thing w/it....or strappy sandals and a cropped cardi for spring/summer. I would even wear it with a faded jean jacket and cute flats, but that's me, lol.

I think that dress is so pretty you probably could pair it with anything and you'd look stunning :)

  3. Kayleigh: thanks! I fell in love with it, and when it fit...it had to come home with me.

Love your ideas, esp. the jean jacket one. I may try that just for the contrast of formal & casual.

Spiragirl: hello and welcome! Thanks very much.

  6. Sheila, you look amazing in that outfit. Being the person that was with you when you bought it, it was exciting for me to see how you put it all together. I know that you still have other great ideas on how to wear it so I look forward to seeing those as well

  9. Again, I want to steal your gorgeous dresses. I would love to see the dress with thick, satin halter straps, or a fabulous fur bolero. Really, I think the dress could look great with any bolero jacket.

  10. Ooh, I love the idea of a fur bolero (faux fur, naturally, although I'm not against fur per se, it just doesn't work these days).

I will have to keep an eye out for a bolero on my thrift/consignment store shopping.

    Thanks, Cat!
