Weekend Wrap-Up: Casual Friday, Lounging Saturday, a Bit of Shopping

Another fabulous sunny and warm weekend, kicked off by a quiet Friday. Here's what I wore:
I had lots of compliments on my "skirt", as well as my funky denim jacket. I felt very swooshy!

The jacket is my lovely Smoking Lily one - a longtime favourite. I last wore it here in May over my Spanish Ladies dress.
And in fact, I'm layering it over a dress again - this is not a skirt. I last wore this lovely summer plaid dress here (3rd outfit) in July for a casual brunch out.
I'm always sad to pack this dress away (and the jacket too) for fall/winter, but I love going, "Oh, yeah!" when I unpack them again. This is probably the last wear for both of them for this year.

The stuff:
My second wear of the Fluevog Vizzinis, last seen here in August with purple lace.

Blue bling!
Doing the uneven earring thing so that I can wear my single vintage clip-on.

Jacket (Smoking Lily, consignment), dress (Coldwater Creek, thrifted), shoes (Wonders Ayers/Vizzinis, Fluevog, dyed by me), belt (Nygard), brooch/earring (vintage), earring (local), lapis lazuli/Fulvia Ring (Wendy Brandes).

I popped out during Friday to get myself a Subway sandwich; the Subway happens to be next door to a crappy consignment store. I found this on the $5.00 rack.
It's a great iridescent black and red. I love the dark floral pattern. The slit has come undone at the back, so it'll need a little handstitching to fix it, but heck, I got my sewing badge in Brownies. I can do that, easy. The skirt has no label, and even if I only get 1 or 2 wears out of it, I like it.

Friday night, L and I hung out and played games, and just had some chill time. Vizzini was up for the challenge.
"Mmph, must you always be in my face, woman?"
What a lump. He didn't budge all night.

On Saturday, we played Ultimate - it was really hot and bright, but with a weird wind. I didn't feel like being too fancy on the field.
Simple dress, jean jacket, comfy shoes and my coffee!

I'm feeling good about going to the gym. I like that my arms have some definition.
Bring on the gunshow!

I need to dye my hair, but I have a haircut next week, and I want to wait until after that.
I love this swirly pink and green/yellow (that's the colour of the dots that make the pattern) dress. I had considered letting it go, but I have reconsidered after wearing it this weekend. It's super easy, and looks great on. I last wore it here (2nd outfit) in June again for Ulty.
The jean jacket was purchased in NYC several years ago. I wear it nearly every day to walk to and from work - it's held up really well over the years.

The stuff:
Very plain accessories. My cleats are nearly wrecked - they are over 6 years old! These sandals felt wonderful after all that running around. I last wore these just a week ago, here, last outfit.

Jacket (Ann Taylor Loft), dress (Planet, thrifted), shoes (Born, consignment), earrings (local).

After brunch at the diner, L and I came home and prepared for MANsday and Winesday. MANsday is Musical Appreciation Night, when all the menfolk gather and listen to each others' musical theme lists. Winesday is when all the womenfolk bring wine and food and hang out all night.
I baked a Wacky cake (from scratch!), made banana/chocolate glaze and a raspberry coulis, with caramel drizzle (it was so good!), for Vero and Tracy's birthdays.

I also dyed my blond streak purple, which didn't work well, and now it's a pale pink. I don't mind it, but now I'm thinking about all-over purple-over-grey hair like Kelly Osborne.  Why the heck not?
Maybe I just had grey and purple on the brain?

This is my Periodic Table of Awesome cardigan (you'll see why in the next picture). I don't wear this as a "good" piece any more. I feel like t-shirt materials are not part of my style any more; I prefer more structured items. I wear this cardi around the house. I last wore it here (3rd outfit) over a year ago, in August 2013.
I have a purple cami on under it.

MANsday was hosted by L at our place, so I walked the four blocks to Karen's place. My skirt fluttered delightfully.
I last wore it here (2nd outfit) out for an afternoon painting session at Beacon Hill park in August with Mom and Elaine.

The stuff:
My most comfy slides. I last wore them here (3rd outfit) in August with cream and stripes.

Homegrown vintage bling:
Everything except for the "death star" ring is from the 80s.

Cardigan (Smoking Lily), skirt (Le Chateau, consignment), shoes (La Canadienne, consignment), rings (all from the 80s), death star ring (Oscar & Libby's).

I slept in a little today, then headed to town to get groceries.
And after wearing this outfit, I decided that this is a style I'm pretty much over. This little puffed sleeve doesn't feel like me any more, and it's a little dated.

The vest is still okay - good vests are hard to find - and will work with the somewhat androgynous look that I'm liking for fall. I last wore it here over a year ago with these same shoes (and a bunch of clothing I've since given away). Hmmm...considering that, I think I may be done with the vest as well.
The blouse is my formerly adored "Queen of the Faeries" one, last seen here in May with mushroom.

The skirt on the other hand, is still one that I like. It'll be packed away until next March.
I last wore it here (ulp!) in July 2013! Again, I have to reconsider, based on the fact that I have not worn it in over a year! I am going to ponder it over the next couple of weeks before I decide if it stays or goes.

The stuff:
I just wore a pair of crystal stud earrings, so just shoes today. I do adore these Chie Mihara flats. So comfy! I haven't worn them too much this summer as it's been so hot - I've wanted my toes out in the air! They were featured in June in Shoe Shine #4 here, and last worn here earlier that month here with flowers and yellow.

Vest (InWear, consignment), blouse (no label, consignment), skirt (Y Petites, consignment), shoes (Chie Mihara).

I popped into a consignment shop after groceries to see if anything caught my eye. I found my Christmas dress!
This is a snug and sexy navy blue lace over mushroom mermaid-cut gown. It is amazing on! I am so excited to wear it.

It's by Eliza J, and was marked down to $54 from $69.
Looks like this brand is sold at Nordstrom in the US and is a "special occasion" line (eg. wedding rehearsals, grads, Christmas parties). And they run over $200 so I got a good deal!

I also found these sweet black leather and grey suede shoes.
They are by Libby Edelman and were $45.00 marked down to $35.00.

I love the squared heel, and again, the menswear vibe of them.
They are a bit higher than I prefer, but I'm hoping they will work for short, less run-around days!

How was your weekend? Have any big scores?

  2. Can't beat a denim jacket over a colourful skirt, so I'm liking the first outfit very much!
I think the pink/purple streak looks great, and your Christmas dress is a beauty. xxxx

  4. WOW, aren't you a thrift shopper ? Able to find something worth they even in the shop next to Subway ? ;)
The Eliza lace dress is fabulous. I have to sit down this week and FIND a red carpet - gala dinner worthy dress for an upcoming event in Switzerland - so you can only imagine the headache. Something like this would be red carpet worthy… maybe I should find me a lace dress.

  5. I'd be dumbfounded by the Subway detail if I hadn't been to Canada and realized they smell good up there, as opposed to the toxic waste dump they all smell like in the States. Something about bread additives, I suspect.

Regardless! Had a good laugh at you being over the one style that made me light up and go, "Ooh! I should try that again." :D
