You're Wearing Pants!

Oh, boy, am I tired. Another 11+ hour day, but the newsletter is all done! 

This post's title is the reaction I always get when I wear pants. Yes, I have legs. And they go all the way up! Aren't I special? Ha!

I got my hair cut last night and I'm a bit less horrified at all the grey this time 'round. I will take a couple of close-up shots of my temples, which I'm shocked to see are nearly all white! I am kind of okay with that. I am going to colour at least the top this weekend, as my roots up there are atrocious. I can handle the buzzed parts being grey (*cough*white*cough*) but I don't like seeing those roots.

Anyhow, there's a nice soft couch waiting for me and a rotten cat who keeps yowling at me to give him kitty treats, so onward to clothes!

It was probably too warm out for this mustard wool cardigan, but I was only outside early this morning and after 8pm this evening, aside from a brief jaunt out to pick up lunch for a meeting. I last wore it way back over a year ago here in June 2013 (it was packed away for winter). That seems like an oversight, because it's a great cardigan. Maybe I have too many yellow cardigans (I have 3).

Underneath is my "chicken blouse", first worn here in April with chrysanthemums (and a yellow cardi!).

The tux pants are a marvel of handmade goodness. I always am amazed by you sewers out there. I last wore them here (2nd outfit) in May for a shopping day when I didn't want to buy too much.

The stuff:

My lovely classic Ralph Lauren pumps, which were last seen here in December 2013 with shiny paisley. I usually wear the lower heeled, neutral metallic faux snakeskin version of these (these ones), but I was actually matching to my jewelry with this outfit.

Vintage bling:

Wearing my new-to-me vintage $5.00 brooch for the first time. Doesn't it go awesomely with the earrings? And isn't it cool that they are actually the exact same stone colour and metal colour? I was tickled when I realized that they are actually the same brand, Lisner. They are from the early 60s. The bracelet was my mom's from the mid- to late-60s.

Red Red Red, with Birds and Leaves

Home late again - haircut!

Get ready tomorrow to see my grey and white temples! I don't have time (maybe Sunday) to dye my hair, so it's gonna have to do in my natural state. But for now - this is a really RED dress.

I have two Calvin Klein dresses (this yellow one is the other - I need to wear it again soon), both purchased at Winners before I went "Secondhand First", and I love them both. The quality is very good, and they just fit my body well.

I also appreciate the nice design details, like the shaped shoulders (very Star Trek!) and the pleats on the front and back of this dress.

Also - zipper! I last wore this red stunner here in April with stripes.

The stuff:

I should do a "Week of Shoes That L Hates", heh heh. He really dislikes chunky shoes, preferring the pointy-toed, more delicate "lady shoes" (like yesterday's). I like all shoes, pretty much. I last wore these ones here with a bloody jacket in September 2013. I actually got rid of that jacket - too much bad mojo from when I fell off the bus last year. I fall enough as it is.

Browny bling:

I had intended to wear these new-to-me vintage earrings with the nearly-matching necklace that I got cheap at another vintage fair, but when I pulled the necklace out last night, a couple of the leaves had fallen off and I couldn't find them. Aw, sad, into the donate bin you go. Instead I filled in the dress neckline with this cool swallow necklace that Mom gave me a couple of years ago.

Blue Suede Shoes with Plaid

Yes, I am wearing a sweater - in July! Am I crazy? Nope - I was barely outside today at all, so even though it is swelteringly hot, I was nice and comfortable. Body temperatures are a weird thing.

However, it does mean that you can finally see the real rich blue of this sweater! Every time I wear it, it looks very dark, and the lovely indigo shade of blue doesn't show well.

I last wore this sweater here (way down past the Swingin' 60s Gala) in February with my snowflake skirt. I have a mustard yellow cami on under it just in case there is any boob action going on. You never know when they might make a break for it!

Dear me, I do adore this skirt. You should see how the bottom pleats swirl about (much like...a kilt, shockingly) when I walk. Divine! I last wore it here in May, the day before my last haircut. And what do you know? I have a haircut tomorrow!

The stuff:

I have had these blue suede shoes for many years, and I love them so much. They need to be re-heeled, but since I don't wear them all that frequently - even though they are amazingly comfortable! - I haven't bothered to do it. I last wore them here in September 2013 with Spanish Ladies and a red hat with an orange feather.

Weekend Catch-Up and Classic Blue

Gah, I am severely cranky and tired. I worked an 11-hour day today, my head is pounding and the computer is acting up. So forgive me for my terseness (should it apply), and also for cramming my weekend outfits into my Monday post. 

Saturday, pre-Ulty outfit.

We woke up to rain on Saturday, and after a late night discussing the movie the night prior (there may have been some Strongbow Cider involved), I was in no mood for a fancy outfit. Dress. Boots. Earrings.

The dress is a favourite from a couple of years ago, last seen here with a black leather obi in April.

I like that I can wear it backwards and forwards. Who's to say which is best? Not me.

My little red cowboy boots are much-loved already. Last wore 'em here to the vintage fair the weekend before last.

On Sunday, this is what I wore to get groceries. It was overcast but warm. Time for...

...clam diggers! I'm pretty sure that's what we called these back in the early 80s.

I like this loose blouse-y top. I last wore it here in May with long black leather.

It's been longer than that for the pants. We're going all the way back here to September 2013 for Monochromania Week for the last time they were worn.

I still like them, but I forget I have them, as they don't live in my closet. They live in my dresser in the bedroom, which is where I keep my camis and 'soft tops', as well as casual and workout clothes.

The stuff:

The first wear of my new-to-me Born flats, purchased here for $38.98. No rubbing and quite comfortable for the walk to town and back.

Please note that my bigass gold hoops (that's real gold, thankyouverymuch) are again in style - Wendy Brandes says so, so it must be true! These were a 5th anniversary gift from L in 2002.

Vizzini is disgusted by the weather. He keeps flopping about and looking at us piteously, like we somehow caused the heat (as it's gotten hotter).

 Sometimes I poke him until he gets up. It's only fair - he does that to me at 4am.

"You dare disturb my slumber!"

Today was a crazy day. I worked late on the newsletter.

Also, this wool/cashmere skirt may have been ill-advised. Thank goodness I work in an air-conditioned building, but the walk home was hot.

I love this blouse. It's got it all: paisley, bigass cuffs and ruffles, it's sheer. I last wore it here in April with aqua (and I ended up getting rid of that suit, due to moth damage. Sad).

Although the skirt was warm when I was outside, nothing beats it for quality. Seriously, it's so thick - I make people feel it when they admire it (and many do). It's my treasured Andre Courreges vintage skirt, thrifted for $5.00, and I last wore it here...wow, in February. That's been way too long.

Everything about this skirt is perfection. I love it.

The stuff:

Not loved: these shoes. For the life of me, I don't know why I bought them. I don't like the toe shape, and they aren't even that nice quality. Into the donation bin they go.

For this Shoe Shine, I'm featuring one of my sentimental favourites: my Poetic Licence teal/orange/cream sandals.

What makes them sentimental favourites?

Well, I bought them in London in May 2010, on Carnaby Street, with Mom and L. I first wore them here when I got home. There are pictures of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in that post (we saw Macbeth - it was gruesomely awesome!).

They are also the Miami Dolphins' team colours (L's favourite team; my second-favourite). I even wore them for his 40th birthday party, where everyone had to wear orange, aqua and white (here, in June 2010).

So there's that. And now that I am an old bag of 46-going-on-47, they are getting to be too high for me to comfortably wear.

Even with that platform, they are a 4" heel. The t-strap helps keep them secure, but I can definitely feel it the day after when I've been wearing them - like maybe one of the little tarsals in my foot will go "pop!" and that will be it for me and heels.

But I keep them...

And I do still wear them (just a couple of weeks ago, here, as a matter of fact), so for now, they stay in my closet. One day, when I do give them up, I'll have these pictures to remember them by.

Fast Friday, and Presto Change-O!

Happy 4th of July to my US friends! I've had my short week and now it's over. Phew.

Everything in my outfit today is secondhand. Go, me!

This is the first wear of my vintage 80s blouse (purchased here last weekend for $10). Now, having worn it, I think someone removed the shoulder pads.

But it was very comfy to wear, I'll give it that.

The skirt is my "bark" (as in tree bark, like cedar trees) skirt, last seen here in June with cream, pink and pearls.

I also have a pale peach vintage slip underneath the whole ensemble.

Much fabulousness. I like that you can kind of see my den reflected in the plastic hearts - yes, the shoes are plastic. I last wore them here in February for a Valentine's Sweetheart party (beware, scary pink vintage dress!).

Kitty loves me

Swapped out to my Smoking Lily moose shirt (worn backwards). I wear this around the house now, so it's no longer "blog-worthy". I also swapped to my lovely floral Doc Martens (last seen here in March). Added a different belt, and my jean jacket (it's gloomy and raining, blah), and off I go!

Chartreuse, Turquoise and Orange Lips - and an All(e)y Cat Encounter

Ack, I'm exhausted. I stayed up late last night reading, and then back to the gym today L and I went. However, this means we are just one day from the weekend! 

I adored this beautiful silk over-top. People just wanted to touch it today. The crazy orange lipstick got the side-eye for the most part. It's a little more vivid in real life.

I purchased it on consignment just this past weekend (here) for $28.98. It was very flowy and comfortable to wear, although I was a tad chilly in the office (air conditioning!).

I just did a simple sweater tank under it, the same one worn here (2nd outfit) to see Steve Earle last week. Into the wash it goes!

The skirt is my chartreuse Noa Noa. Chartreuse is not a trendy colour (according to my InStyle colour chart) this fall. Whatevs. Next they'll be telling me that blue eyeshadow is verboten! I last wore this skirt here in April with dragons and teal.

Isn't the bottom/back of the over-top cool? I like the mix of patterns in it...which is probably why whoever owned it before got rid of it. One woman's trash is another treasure!

Must. Wear. All. The. Copper. And this isn't even my whole collection. Both of the cuffs were just purchased this weekend for under $20 for both of them. The earrings and the ring both belonged to my Grandma J. I remember her wearing the earrings - and unlike most clip-ons, they do not pinch, not even a smidge. It's like she broke them in for me. *smile*

Cobalt, Dots and Cherry

Dang it, what day is it? Monday? Feels like Monday.

Wednesday is a trickster for sure, though. Thought I'd catch it off guard with polka dots.

My new-to-me vintage blouse (purchased on Saturday here for $5.00) gets its debut.

I discovered that the rear buttons open up when I'm wearing a jacket and cross-body purse. Nice. Fortunately, I have a full-length vintage (of course) slip underneath this outfit, so nothing was exposed (other than the slip). Other than that, it fit great, and I loved the vivid blue and the pussy bow at the neck.

The skirt is a nice pinky-red - I believe they are calling this "cherry" this fall. According to the little tear-out insert in my June InStyle, cherry goes with pewter, camel, heather grey and "wild card pairing" of plum. However, if I go look up the blue section, "bright blue" (really? that's the name?) goes with teal, charcoal, mustard and "wild card pairing"...cherry! Who's the clever one now, eh?

*ahem* Anyway, I last wore this skirt here on Easter Monday with crazy pink plaid and cherry shoes.

I like my shapes to all echo each other - of course, I had to wear these blue shoes with the round studs on them! It's been a while since I wore them to work too. I last wore them here (2nd outfit) for L's birthday with a little black dress.
