I knew I'd be carrying heavy things, going up and down stairs, moving furniture and slicing vegetables, as well as mingling and being my usual "office glue."
I needed a high-visibility colour, and easy things to move in. I did a lot of running around, culminating in two hours socializing with close to 60 people in our lunchroom.
- Wool sweater - MO & Co., thrifted; purchased here for $11.00
- Turtleneck - Gilmour, vintage 00s, thrifted; last worn here in October 2024 for a Mom-and-Uncle Day at Beacon Hill Park
- Silk velvet skirt - Rachel Roy, thrifted; first seen here in March 2024 with the same coat
- Boots - Biblio Austen, Fluevog; last worn here in November 2024 with a maxi velvet vest at the graveyard with Mom
- Coat (below) - Cache, consignment; last worn here in June 2024
I got very sweaty over the day - this new sweater is WARM. I layered a thin stretchy top under the wool to ameliorate any itchiness (she learns!).
I love the "slashed" bits and overall it was great, but I was disappointed to see the little pink worms of wool gathering under my arms and along my sides. Ugh. But I have ideas for it still so it's earned a reprieve...for now. Keeping it? Perhaps.
The velvet skirt is amazing - check out the gold zipper in the back.
It had some clinging issues with the lacy tights, but no snags. This is the nicest and softest black velvet skirt I've ever owned.
Lost my balance, oops. Leopard!
Mild weather continues - I don't think I've ever worn this jacket in January before.
Accoutrements:
I took the bus home as it was late and dark, and I had a hungry kitty waiting to be fed. - Fur boa - Danier, vintage 90s, thrifted
- Leather gloves - thrifted
The stuff:
I walked to work, then back out to the grocery store for party supplies, with a jaunt to the dollar store for cups and the Italian Deli for fancy meat and olives. These boots were awesome, zero complaints.

Black and gold bling:
Jessica was impressed that my necklace is 80s Givenchy - I showed her the marks. I recall that I paid $5.00 for it at a vintage fair in Fernwood many years ago.

Fran Drescher would be head over heels in love with that combo of leopard and hot pink, and so am I! 💖
ReplyDeleteSo nice to meet you, FF! I often channel Fran, thanks for the huge compliment!
DeleteThat's a fabulous shade of pink and great with the leopard print. I'm off to Google who Fran Drescher is! I bet your colleague appreciated all the effort you put into her retirement party. xxx
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll recognize her, Vix - she was famous for a show called The Nanny where she wore the most outrageous outfits!
DeleteShe did appreciate it - and it was a huge success.
Wonderful layering combo both for color & pattern plus proportion! Psyched to see the pink top though disappointed to hear it needs some disciplining under the arms and along the sides. As always with clothing you mod, am curious to see what your plans are for disciplining it!
ReplyDeleteHaving seen via your blog the wonderful parties you and L host I suspect your retiring colleague was touched by your office efforts and everyone likely appreciated the your approach rather than the catering approach; makes it more personal that way.
Here’s to a sweet Mom Day Adventure today!
Cheers, Laurie
Thanks so much, Laurie! Yes, the "worms" were not welcome! I plan on styling it with a white shirt, much in the way I did for NYE to see if that makes me like the sweater more - but it's awfully warm, so not sure if that plus the pilling will put me off it for good. We shall see.
DeleteI didn't quite go that far over the top (no decorations, but I was tempted!), but all the personal touches made everyone happy - I had 8 different kinds of wine, and 4 types of beer!
It's cold and windy, but sunny, so I'll be bundling up and wearing something bright and cheery!
Wow on the drink variety but then I realized you have a lot of people in your company/office. Even with no decorations so special for the VP to be given a special send off!
DeleteYes, lots of people! Many non-drinkers, and I kept it simple with mostly wine (and a few beers for the beer folks - it was an assorted 12-pack).
DeleteWhat a shame about the "worms" on the pink jumper you had such high expectations of ... But I love the outfit: pink and leopard is such a great combo!
ReplyDeleteHow lucky your VP was that you organized and coordinated her send-off.
I had to laugh at you being the office glue, as I'm a bit like that too. Things do tend to fall apart when we're not around :-) xxx
I'm hoping that the worms will abate once I wear it a bit more, Ann. I love the pink and leopard too! Just goes to show, leopard is a neutral!
DeleteYes, I don't do that usually - catering all the way!
It's a nice thing to be, but can be a bit of a burden, as I'm sure you know. <3
Boo to worms!!!! Givenchy for a fiver is a bargain!!! I'm not good with itchy sweater!!
ReplyDeleteI know! I was annoyed at the worms!
DeleteLeopard print and pink are such a cool combination - pink punk pizazz!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Claire! Yeah, punk, I love it!
DeleteAmazing leopard matching!
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit fan of leopard print.
I LOVE leopard print - it's never out of style for me.
