Spanish Ladies and a Flop-Cat

The heatwave continues! Our ripening bananas on the counter exploded overnight. I did not know bananas exploded...but they did.

Another sweltering day today, and another jammy dress to the rescue! My Spanish Ladies dress has been in my wardrobe for over a decade - it's that awesome.
It's also 100% cotton, so it breathes well. Because today was another hot one with temps up to 40, which is just ridiculous for us here on the west coast of Canada. It's usually around 20 this time of year, and as previously mentioned, no one has AC in their homes here.

  • Dress - Limb, Camden Market, London, 2010; last seen here in August 2020 (Flashback there)
  • Shoes - Hopeful Sunny, Fluevog, thrifted; purchased here on the weekend for $59.99

I layered a camisole under the dress to cover up my cleavage, and I have a pair of my cotton petit-pants on under this, but other than that, bam, I'm done.
"Could you please turn the heat off?"

Vizzini plunked himself down for a photo-bomb session.
"Really, I am quite finished with it being warm."

This dress has no pockets; otherwise it would be an A+ of a dress.
"So, you're ignoring me. Enjoy the hairball I leave on the bed."

Masked up - a red one with white dots.
Just the thought of putting a coat on is unbearable. We barely slept last night due to the heat - it usually cools off drastically overnight here with cold breezes coming in off the ocean.

Ready for going out!
A hat and my paper parasol! I prefer a physical sunblock over chemical goop.

  • Hat - thrifted
  • Parasol - Chinatown

The stuff:
I adored my new-to-me Fluevogs - they were so comfy in the office. I'm so glad I bought them.

Minimal bling:
The belt was touch-and-go - would it feel too hot? But it was fine. I undid it a notch for the walk home, when it was 40 degrees ("feels like 44" - thanks, Weather Network!).

Vizzini has been flopping wherever he finds a cool spot, like in the middle of the kitchen.
"I sleep here now, Woman."

Or in the centre of the hallway, outside the bedroom door. Ah, cats.

  1. Exploding bananas! Now THAT'S hot! You, however, look cool as a cucumber in your Spanish ladies dress.

Poor Vizzini having to cope while wearing a fur coat.

    1. I was so shocked, Nana! Aw, thank you so much - I was a wet dishrag by the end of the day!

It was hard on him - we kept his water full, and have been brushing him to keep his fur manageable.

  2. I appreciate the perfectly matching blues of the shoes, jewelry and cami! The Spanish Ladies never cease to make me swoon…I love this dress for its pattern, colors and style. Add the hat and parasol and you’ve got summer perfection. Ahhhh :)

Sending virtual cool breezes to you, especially to Vizzini. We are forecast to have temps in the 90s today, which I think is cooler than what you are seeing, though neither temps are welcome!

    1. Thanks so much, Laurie! It's a lovely dress, for sure. I felt very summery in this, but by the end of the day, I was fully melting.

Thank you! We needed them, and I am sure it worked! Yes, 42 is around 110 degrees! Not welcome!

  3. Aww hope Vizzini is keeping cool with you too! Your dress looks perfect for a hot day :) I have never heard of exploding bananas before though, eek! that would not have been fun to clean up. We have to keep ours in the fridge - if you leave them out they brown far too quickly, haha!

    1. He is a slug, Mica - he's not used to the high temps either. L cleaned up the bananas, yay! I often refrigerate them when they get to the ripeness I like.

  4. Yes our cats also are looking for cool spots, poor fur babies. Love those shoes btw. Forgot to mention that yesterday. Yeah, no pockets... but other then that!🥰🥰🥰🥰

    1. I feel bad for them! I hope your kitties are staying cool, Nancy.

Thank you so much. I know, how hard would it have been to put pockets in this dress?? Sigh!

  5. We're down to 20°C, so how about you send us some of your surplus ones. I'd gladly take some - but not too many - off your hands. Poor you, I certainly don't envy you!
It's always a delight to see your Spanish Ladies dress, and your new-to-you Fluevog sandals are just perfect with it. I'm swooning over that delightful parasol.
Poor Vizzini too. Bess did quite a bit of flopping as well when we had our "minor" heatwave, but she was still surprisingly energetic.
Not many people have AC here either. We used to have a mobile unit, but it was noisy and pretty useless.
Exploding bananas? Sounds quite yukky! xxx

    1. Oh, I'll happily send you a few degrees, Ann! We're back down to the mid-20s now (Wed). That was not a fun time! I don't like it that hot!

Thank you so much, my dear! I love my parasol (only $10 ages ago).

Cats are pretty adaptable, aren't they? Vizzini was full of beans as soon as the temps dropped, yowling away at us and scampering about.

It's not worth it for a few hot days a year. I know, so gross.

  6. I've been following the weather news for you and Melanie out in BC and i can't believe the high temperatures you've had. Also I did not know that bananas could explode. We've had days of 30 - 40 degree humidex in the summer for several years and I could not survive without A/C. Extreme heat and humidity makes me feel faint, and nauseous so I try not to go out when it's really hot unless I have to. I would be a "flopcat" like Vizzini. Sylvester has no idea how good he has it.

    1. It's been horrendous out here, Shelley, and I am SO glad it's over now. I know, bananas, who knew??

We usually only have 2-3 days of hot weather - which for us is 30, normally. We broke all existing records, including hottest in Canada (in Lytton) this past week, of 49.5! And we normally get very chilly ocean breezes at night, so no one really has needed AC in their homes!

It was horrible, especially on Monday. I'm so glad it's over, both for me and Vizzini!

  10. The Exploding Bananas, that's a great name for a band! That happened to us at a festival one year, our only healthy food gone in an instant!
That Camden dress looks a treat on you, so cool in both senses of the word. Those Fluevogs are fabulous, I need some blue sandals in my life!
I do love a flopcat! xxx

  12. Ridiculously hot. We have never had that high a temperature. Mind you, last year we did hit 35 degrees and for a long period it was really unusually hot. Which is why we installed an airco in the bedroom in May this year. Of course temperatures are now normal and we have only needed it one night. Well the evening before the night as I hate airco when I am asleep.

    1. It was "stoopid" hot, Greetje. I don't ever want temps like that again, although if it's like this next year, I might be tempted to get AC or at least a small unit. I did get another fan!

  13. Great look. We've been lucky in my area that the heat wave didn't reach us (and apologies for being tardy with commenting; I'm way behind in reading your posts).

  14. Such a pretty, upbeat ensemble. Love the bevy of blue accessories - just the colour to help counteract these dog days (and then some!) of summer.
