Blue Toile Ruffles and Effortless Flashback

Monday, always my favourite. Time for a dress.
This lovely toile-patterned dress was due for another wearing.

  • Dress - Part Two; first worn here (2nd outfit) for Mom's 75th birthday in May
  • Jacket (below) - Dolce & Gabbana, vintage, thrifted; last seen here in June for a birthday stroll
  • Shoes - Effortless Vivian, Fluevog; last worn here in September 2019 with baby blues

It also gave me the opportunity to wear these lovely shoes, which have been languishing in my closet this season.
I'm also rather fond of all the ruffles on this dress.
Ruffles at the neck, around the arm holes...
And five layers of ruffles in the dress itself.

Outerwear - I could have gone without a coat, but it matched the shoes so well.
Masked up:
My lovely blue toile one that Cat made for me.

The stuff:
I realized today, that I've had a blind spot this year with these shoes! They have been ready to go since I unpacked them from fall/winter storage, but this is the first time I've worn them this whole year! Tsk! I'll have to remedy that before I pack them away again at the end of September. We will have a Flashback on them shortly.

Silver and blue bling:
Some favourites.

  • Acrylic cuff - thrifted
  • Filigree cuff - St. Paul's Cathedral gift shop
  • Shield ring - Nine West
  • Silver/sodalite ring - Scotland, 1996
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Earrings - Vancouver

Flashback!

I bought these lovely Effortless Vivian Fluevogs in Vancouver on our anniversary trip here in March 2016 - actually, L bought them for me, because that's what we do as gifts for each other.
I buy him shoes; he buys me shoes! These were $299.99 originally. Don't they look good with my travel/shopping outfit? It's like I planned to buy them (I was hopeful, and had stalked them online first).

This is my first "real" outfit with these shoes, in April 2016.
That's a cute dress, but it was a cheap one and didn't last too long with me.

I didn't have a lot of baby blue in my closet when I first bought these, so I wore them with this same blue blouse multiple times.
This was also in April. That skirt had flecks of blue in the pattern.

With another cheap patterned dress in April 2016 again.
The shoes went well with the dress, but what was I thinking with a red jacket? Nope, nope, nope.

A fun and colourful combination in June 2016.
I still have that yellow wool skirt, but the top only lived with me for a year or so.

My beloved "stained glass" dress (and that same blue blouse!) in April 2017.
Complete with a cat who is studiously ignoring me.

I like this outfit, also from April 2017.
The shoes are all that's left - the moths ate the sweater, and the skirt was moved along.

I went through a mesh top phase - why, I'm not really sure.
This was in May 2017.

A month later, in June 2017.
My eyeball dress is in the giveaway pile - it was always too tight in the boobular region.

My cashmere tee makes an appearance in July 2017.
While I adored that skirt's pattern, its scuba material meant that it rode up when I walked. Gone!

I love this outfit and wore a variation of it four our Spring Tea in 2019 - this outfit came first, and is also from July 2017.
I have yet to wear that jacket or that skirt this season - they're coming!

Pondering whether I should keep this top and/or my culottes, in August 2017.
I got rid of both of them. I slightly regret the culottes - they were pretty awesome, as you can see.

That baby blue blouse gets one more outfit, and it's a good one.
I love when a little ruffled collar and cuffs poke out from a tough leather jacket. This was in April 2018.

Showing off my pink crystal articulated salamander brooch (it's on my shoulder) in this look from June 2018.
I have all the jewelry, but none of the clothes. All gone.

I have all these pieces still, from this August 2018 ensemble.
Those dotty pants are a wee bit snug, but I'm keeping them! I'll get there eventually.

Looking wistful here in April 2019.
Today's jacket makes an appearance. That was a cute dress (with pockets!) but I had enough of it.

I paired these shoes with my Lifesaver dress the first time I wore it, in July 2019.
There is a bit of baby blue in the stripes.

And here's the last time I wore them, for a Friday work outfit.
I still have both that blouse and skirt, but I don't think I've worn either of them yet - that needs to be rectified!

Mathy stuff: Including today's outfit, I've worn these shoes 18 times, which brings them down to $16.67 per wear. They're in excellent condition, so I expect to double that eventually!

  1. If that first dress goes missing, it's DEFINITELY not because I snuck to Canada and stole it.
:-P I really enjoy seeing how you put outfits together. I hope to splurge on my first pair of fluevogs this year. I just can't decide between the Gladstones or the BBC Flyers because both are so good.

    1. Ha, thanks, Meghan! Try 'em on first if you can - you'll know when you try them which ones are right for you.

  2. I love that ruffletastic dress! The shoes, denim jacket and bespoke mask are lovely with it.
Ho fab do you and L look in your new shoes in that flashback photo? What a shame you got rid of that cute dress with pockets and the cool culottes but we both know there's always great stuff out there and we can't keep it all! xxx

  4. Your outfit of the day looks refreshingly comfortable and classy, a nice combo especially with the mask and shoes matching! The pants of the first flashback outfit look to be the same style as the plaid pants I just picked up from the tailor. Makes me wince/smirk and eventually laugh...tailor cost almost as much as the pants!
Now that I have time galore, need to see if the second hand store two towns over has reopened! (See your positive influence!)

    1. Thanks so much, Laurie! I do like my matchy, ha ha! I rarely tailor anything for that reason - it has to be something REALLY special for me to spend the $$ on tailoring.

I have yet to check out the WIN stores here, but I'm nearly due for another trip to Flavour Upstairs. Maybe in September.

  6. Loving the ruffles and print of that fabulous frock. The denim jacket and mask are just perfect with it, and your shoes definitely needed to come out of hiding. They're gorgeous and certainly deserved of flashback of their own! That said, I've been having several blind spots with shoes this Summer, always gravitating towards the same pairs. And then what do I do? Buy even more shoes! Hope your favourite day of the week went well, and you're ready for the rest of the week! xxx

    1. Thank you, dear Ann. What is up with these blind spots with our shoes? I can only think that they look stiff and that I'm subconsciously wanting more comfy-looking shoes. I also want to buy more shoes! Ha! Thank you! I'm ready for it, bring it on!

  7. Hi Sheila, very feminine look today but those shoes! they are fantastic! and again love the blue and silver jewellery. (Love that cuff you got here in the UK) I loved yesterdays trick of putting the petticoat under the dress to lengthen it I us that trick except with skirts under a too short dress. I look forward to seeing what you are wearing each day. Thanks for more fun and brightness Shazxx

    1. Hi, Shaz! I do like a very femme look at times. The shoes are so cool. I'm glad you enjoy the jewelry - I do too! Yes, skirts work just as well as the sheer underskirt. Aw, I appreciate that, my dear, thanks.

  11. Those ARE lovely shoes! It's good that they've had an outing before going back into storage. And I bet the ruffles on the dress look great in motion, they're always ready to float and wave.

  13. Such an elegant, airy tiered dress. Hard to believe we only have a few more weeks left to wear garments like that - sans layers at least.

You know, generally speaking, I really don't mind Mondays. They house a refreshing energy that helps to perk up my own, which coupled with the prospect of seven fresh days still ahead of us, ensures that I rarely bemoan when Monday rolls around again.

    1. Thank you so much, Autumn! I know, only 3 weeks of summer left - yikes! Where did it go?

I don't mind them too much now - my work life is so much quieter than it used to be. In the Before Days, Mondays were a slam of work, very crazy.

  15. That dress is so beautiful on you! I like the matching with the mask and the shoes too! Sadly more places are requesting masks here so I am going to need to consider buying more! I'm doing a lot of ordering online instead though and I'm kind of at a point where I can take the kids out on a few short trails without hurting my knee too much so we are doing that and trying to stay away from people and populated places!

    1. Thanks, Mica! I think we are going to see masks become a regular thing here - we'll see another COVID spike, and then there will no going back from them. I'm hoping they will tamp down cold/flu season, though.

Good for you for just staying away from people!

Oh the baby blue shoes have gotten a lot of wear, its funny, a few years back i bought baby blue shoes and thought i would never wear them and then wore them until they fell apart.

  19. Finally have some time tonight to catch up on your blog. Work is hellish right now so I have been avoiding my computer after I shut down at the end of the workday.

The ruffled dress is very cool, and I quite like the blue jacket worn over it with the matching shoes. You are the only person I know who could get so much wear out of a pair of baby blue shoes.
