Jelly-Deer and Lace

I'm still working through my not-yet-worn items for spring/summer - I get all excited over new things, and forget that I have awesome clothes that I've had for years.
Novelty is nice, but revisiting an old favourite is always fun. Today, it's this green metallic lace skirt.

  • Sweater - Kersh, print by Pina, thrifted; last seen here in May with a maxi and cowboy boots
  • Skirt - Alfred Sung, vintage 80s, consignment; last worn here in June 2018 with chartreuse (love that outfit)
  • Shoes - Prepare Guide, Fluevog; last seen here in July with neon brights
  • Coat (below) - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last worn here a week ago

I've had this skirt since 2009 (here) when I wore it to a curling workshop (really!). Curling the sport, not for hair, ha ha!
I'm up to close to 20 wears of it in 10 years - considering I paid $40 for it, that's good cost-per-wear, even if I don't wear it a ton. I like the leafy lace weave, and the deliberately ragged hem.

For those of you who have not heard of Alfred Sung, he was "Canada's Yves St. Laurent" back in the early/mid-80s. There's an interesting article here from 1983, which mentions the Monaco Group (that's Club Monaco, the long-time Canadian brand, and the Joseph Mimran mentioned in the article is the founder of Club Monaco and the Joe Fresh line of clothing). It's a bit of a flashback from days when there was still a thriving Canadian (and US) manufacturing industry, and the goal was to open brick-and-mortar stores and have boutiques in US department stores. My skirt is made in Canada, and it's pre-Great Size Shift of the mid-80s (it's marked a 12, but fits like a modern size 8), so it's a fairly early piece for him.

The jelly-deer (not jelly-fish) sweater is a great staple as a fun top. It's hard to see in these pictures, but the sweater has a glitter thread running through it.
The turquoise of the print almost always leads me to wearing more turquoise somewhere in my outfit.

Just an easy look for a quiet week.
It's finally gotten warm out, but here I am in a sweater...

...and a coat! It's chilly in the mornings.
And I prefer physical sunblock when walking home.

The stuff:
These are easily one of my favourite pairs of shoes. So comfy, and so turquoise!

Green and turquoise bling:
I can't resist some sparkle to go with my turquoise.

  • Bracelet - vintage 60s, Mom's
  • Earrings - Mango's
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Turquoise/silver ring - local

  1. I like the turquoise and green together! I especially like the graphic top with the lace pencil skirt - you know I don't think I've ever done that with my blue lace pencil skirt - I tend to stick to basic block colour pieces with it!

    1. It's such a pretty combo, isn't it, Mica? The sweater feels dressy, which helps make the graphic print go with the more formal/dressy skirt.

  2. Yay, you are wearing some of my favourites: the jellydeer top and those awesome turquoise shoes. No wonder they're one of your favourite pairs. The green lacy skirt is gorgeous too, and indeed deserves its space in your wardrobe, even if you don't wear it that often. Love the turquoise and green bling, and your Mum's 1960s bracelet really caught my eye! One more day, and it's the weekend! xxx

    1. They are faves of mine, too, Ann. The skirt has always been special to me - I can't believe I've had it for 10 years. Mom's bracelet is always a great addition to an outfit!

Phew, I can't wait - bring on the weekend!

    1. I didn't realize until I looked him up that he was Canadian. I just assumed everyone knew Alfred Sung! Thanks, Nancy!

  4. Alfred Sung was my first designer piece - he designed Girl Guide uniforms in the late 80's.

  5. ohhh, I'm loving your jelly-deer top and the subsequent turquoise details like these fab shoes and cute earrings!. Your skirt is a fab piece, its texture is totally stunning!
Isn't it amazing that there was a local fashion industry everywhere back in the 80's?. This makes me feel quite nostalgic.

    1. Thanks, Monica! I have loved this skirt for a long time.

I know! It seems so long ago. I'm sad that we've lost this in Canada, for the most part.

  6. What a fun outfit. The turquoise shoes are a perfect choice to compliment the jelly-deer (that word always makes me giggle!) X

  7. Oh how I adore that jelly-deer top. It's the first time I've seen the skirt and love that it looks very vintage. And of course you'd have to wear these turquoise shoes - how perfect x

    1. Yup, I have to remember to dig into the "old" stuff and make new combinations! Your knowledge of brands and fashion is amazing, Lorena! Aw, that's so cool. I think of you when I see designer pieces!

  9. That skirt is just so damned pretty it deserves the wardrobe space even if it doesn't get out very often. I like the pops of turquoise.
