Yellow, Dots and Bows - and the Theory Blouse

More yellow today! It was warm and muggy today, so the perfect day to go sleeveless and wear wool.
This outfit was built around the top - everything else is all "that old thing."

  • Top - H&M, thrifted; purchased here for $10.00
  • Skirt - Mister Leonard, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here in September 2017 under a denim dress
  • Shoes - Lola Ramona; last worn here (3rd outfit) in September 2017 for the annual Vintage Expo
  • Jacket (below) - Club Monaco, thrifted; last seen here (3rd outfit)

I had lots of compliments on this outfit, particularly this bright vivid yellow skirt.
It's a summer-weight wool, fully-lined, made in Canada - and of course, it's vintage. I bought it in February 2014 (here) for a whopping $8.50. Add a couple of zeros, and maybe you could find one this nice now in a store. Maybe.

I loved this top - it is such a nice fit. It came with the grossgrain ribbon belt - I'd intended on leaving it off, or adding my own belt, but in the end, I really liked the bow at the front.
It went with the bow on my heels! Triple bows! I win!

Outerwear - it was supposed to be smoking hot out today, but instead we got grey, humid and windy.
This jacket gets worn a lot - it's really good coverage in spring.

Feeling casual...
Nothing like a pop of yellow!

  • Hat - thrifted

The stuff:
Polka dot and striped shoes! These are leather and they are very comfortable to wear. I love the little kitten-ish heel.

Yellow bling:
My big cuff I've had for years - I think it was around $3.00 in a thrift store years ago.

  • Cuff - thrifted
  • Crystal/silver ring - Soul Flower
  • Shield ring - Nine West
  • Bakelite earrings - vintage 60s, vintage fair

Okay, yesterday I had planned to wear this Theory blouse with my Dries Van Noten striped skirt (refresh your memory here).
Here it is, tucked into today's yellow skirt. It's not that bad...I can see why I bought it - cool collar/neckline.

Long shot. I'm not a fan of that sleeve, nor that it makes my shape disappear (compare again with today's top above). That deep box pleat in the middle of my chest makes my boobs disappear - I like my boobs, no!
I'm in my walking-home shoes, ignore them.

Some of you suggested untucked, like a tunic.
"But what about my luxurious tail?"
It's quite long...and it's even more shapeless. I don't think I would ever wear it like this.

Back view, tucked in. The fabric (cotton) is woven to be semi-stiff and it wrinkles if you even look at it - this is steamed!
"I'm confused - are you leaving me again?"
So, I think I will stick with my decision to turf this, unworn - I'll put it in the giveaway pile.

What do you guys think? Do you agree with my choice? Do you feel better now that you've seen it on me? What would you do to style it?

  1. Agree with that. The white blouse does nothing for you especially compared to the H&M top. Really like the outfit and it looks great on you

  2. Love the yellow-wool outfit! So stylish (as always).

I wonder how the white t-shirt would look with jeans? Probably it won't save it, the shape is not correct.

Btw came to my mind when seeing cute Vizzini, we in Finland have this unique seal call "Saimaa Seal". Now it's third year when the local Wwf has put live camera to one of seals resting rock. It's really good mindfulness to look the view and of course, spot the seal: https://luontolive.wwf.fi/en/

    1. Thank you, Mujeril! Aw, thanks for the link to the seals! We have them here in Victoria too!

For the amount that I wear jeans (not very often), I can't justify keeping the white top.

  3. Why don’t you try it with your gautier sailor jeans?

    1. Because this stoopid top looks like a big puffy marshmallow when it's tucked in - the volume of the jeans means I need a fitted top. Thanks, hon!

  4. Divine shoes once again! I agree about the white top, not that flattering. Lise

  5. such an elegant outfit, really love your top and how it looks in this combo!, the yellow skirt, the fabulous shoes, everything is stunning! and you're gorgeous wearing it!
Not a huge fan of the boxy white top, it looks really uninteresting compared to the fab H&M top!

    1. Thank you! I felt really good in all my bows.

Agreed - it's just not right on me. What was I thinking!?

  6. I love the black and white top with the yellow skirt and I can see why you won't eep the white top. It does look lovely, but I agree it isn't so nice on - you definitely have nicer ones!

    1. Agreed, Mica. There are better white tops out there. Ah well, live and learn, right? Thank you!

  7. Stunning outfit, Sheila- as always! Love the polka dot shoes. Always an inspiration.

I see the appeal of the white top and agree about the giveaway pile. It's shapelessness in the torso would be tough to style. I'm guessing a belt would make it poof weirdly. The only things I could see pairing it with on the bottom are a shorter pencil skirt or super skinny jeans/pants/leggings. Emphasizing your lovely legs but I personally don't like looking shapeless on top... so it would be a no go for me. :-(

    1. Thank you, danae! Yes, I also tried belting it, and it's even weirder and pouffier! It's a no-go for me - if I have to work this hard to style it, it just doesn't work at all.

  8. Kailani's comments: POLKA DOT SHOES - can we find a pair in my size! We are now on the hunt for polka dot heels for the almost 8 yr old - size 3.5 kids or 5 women if anyone sees any on their travels :)

I agree - the white blouse is too "frumpy" for your style and doesn't show off any of your great shape - its has to go

Gone! The top is in the giveaway pile!

  9. I am a sucker for white shirts-
I like the white Theory top but I can see what you mean especially if you compare the fit to today's H&M top.
    What if you belt it?

    1. Nope, it's even worse belted (I tried it with the original outfit with the Dries skirt). I looked like a square marshmallow with a big pouffy bottom.

I'm also a sucker for white tops - this one got me, though!

  10. Love the yellow skirt outfit -- those shoes are adorable. Yes, give the Theory top away!

  11. Love the triple bow outfit. I'm amazed at the fit of the H&M top, and the print is absolutely gorgeous, and is quite striking with the yellow skirt. Your polka dot/striped shoes balance it out perfectly. I'm not a fan of the white blouse, but I'm seconding Caro's suggestion to try it with the Gaultier sailor jeans. xxx

    1. I know - H&M, fitting?? Thank you so much - I really loved this outfit.

Nope, it's too puffy for the Gaultier pants - they need a slim-fitting top.

  12. Sheila I love this vivid yellow skirt. I also adore the polkadot shoes. The print blouse is amazing but I must say I do not love the white shirt. That’s the first thing I’ve seen you wear, that I have not cared for. It just does not fit you well. I really love your matching Bakelite earrings and cuff.
    Cool sneakers too.

    1. Thanks, Elle! I agree, it is just not the right blouse on me - off it goes to the donate pile.

I wish the cuff were Bakelite - I think it's a really hard plastic. It is good quality, though.

  13. Yeah, that white top = Loser. Get rid of it before it behaves badly! You have so many other nicer things to wear instead. (I've learned this from you and am trying to practice it in my own closet)!

    1. Lol, Gerrilyn! I totally agree - I'm not going to struggle to make it work when I have so many non-struggle things!

  14. So stinkin' adorable!!! Even with the fussy white shirt!!!! It didn't look fussy, but you were pointing out some issues with it.

    1. Thank you, Becky! No, it wasn't fussy, but it's all those little things that add up do a "no" for that blouse.

  15. Very late to the white shirt debate, but glad to hear it's gone. The other top is darling however! And the yellow skirt, oh how I love yellow.
