Jeans Week continues! Today, it's my other denim dress.
I love wearing a skirt under a dress to lengthen a short hem and liven things up.- Dress - Armani Exchange, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) almost exactly a year ago, in May 2017
- Skirt - Ranna Gill, thrifted; last worn here in September 2017 with a peasant blouse
- Shoes - Gap, thrifted; last seen here in September 2017 with an orange tennis dress
- Coat (below) - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last worn here in April
Before I started blogging, I would never have thought of layering a skirt under a dress. Enjoy some flashbacks of me doing just that!
- I first tried it in 2009...with a denim dress! - here
- With yellow leather boots in 2010 - here, 2nd outfit
- Under a shirt-dress in 2011 - here
- Wearing a sheer skirt in 2013 (more blond hair!) - here
- Under a different denim dress in 2014 - here
- Under a very short leather dress in 2014 - here
- Making a pin-up dress go cowgirl in 2014 - here
- Last summer (2017) under a sheer kimono dress - here
With this dress, it's too short for work, especially with the amount of physical activity I do. Opening up the zipper allows me to wear a skirt under it for not just the length, but also for movement.
This skirt is also delightfully swooshy, so I have a nice contrast in stiff and soft textures. I like that.
The dress has its own wide black elastic belt, attached at either side - I covered it up with this wide leather one.
You're not seeing things; the skirt has an uneven hem, with the sides being higher and the front/back being longer.
Hands jammed in pockets!
Casual but put together, I'd say.
Ooh, look, I zipped it down!
I showed that to a few people at work.
Outerwear - needed today! It was a little chilly although it got nicer by the end of the day.
I walked home after my WW meeting, and it was just right - what a lovely spring we're having!
The stuff:
Unfortunately, this is the last wearing of these lovely Gap leather wedges. The leather's lining is man-made, and it is disintegrating. These also just felt too high this year and my feet are hurting, so into the giveaway pile they go.
Here's how I wore them, in their short stay with me:
- As noted, last September here with that sweet vintage dress (will be wearing that again soon!)
- In August 2017 with a vintage skirt, here
- In July 2017, here (3rd outfit) with a boho dress
- And first worn here in June 2017 with a pretty green dress (and this same belt)
I paid $19.95 for them (thrifted here), and they were unworn, but date from 2012. At 5 wearings, they work out to $2 a wear, which I'm happy with. However, I love this colour and shape and style - this is on my shopping radar now, to find a replacement pair, similar (with a lower heel).
The stuff:
My belt is by Fendi - swanky! I get a kick out of thrifted Fendi.
- Belt - Fendi, thrifted
- Choker - Mom's, vintage 70s
- Earrings - 5th anniversary gift from L
- Amber ring - c. 1996
- Crystal ring - consignment
what a fabulous layering, I do love your denim dresses over pants, but they also rock over skirts!, and this ensemble looks particularly springy and lovely!
ReplyDeletesorry that the wedges don't work anymore, they look fab, and match so nicely your belt!, great accessorizing!
besos
Thank you, Monica! Skirts are my go-to, much more than pants. I know, I love them too, but oh, they hurt...and falling apart shoes have to go!
DeleteI have never tried this (and I don't think I have a suitable skirt) but this is such a fun way of layering. Works so well to make a shorter dress perfect for work.
ReplyDeleteI was just peeking at your most recent entry, and thought this idea would work for your "too short" skirt! You totally could do this!
DeleteEven though I've tried new things thanks to the blog and ideas this is something I have not tried yet.. I am thinking that maybe it has to do with the weather and the fact that its not required here.
ReplyDeleteI like this and how you keep being adventurous ! You continue to be an inspiration after all these years.
Yes, weather would be a factor, Lorena - it can feel like a lot of layers, especially if the skirt is lined. Aw, thank you so much! That is so sweet of you. :)
DeleteWhat a fab idea to wear the short jeans dress over that swooshy skirt! The addition of the wide belt is genius too. Sorry to hear about the wedges. I'm having to let go of quite a few pairs as well, as they seem no longer comfortable. Have a wonderful weekend full of adventures! xxx
ReplyDeleteLetting go of shoes is really hard for me - I fall in love with them too easily. Thanks so much, Ann!
DeleteI love the denim skirt over the skirt, it really accentuates the ruffle...and that's a good thing, the bigger the ruffle, the better!
ReplyDeleteHave a fab weekend, dear Sheila! xxx
Oh, I so agree, Vix! More ruffles! Happy weekend to you, m'dear!
DeleteLove the colors in the skirt, and it looks so fab with the denim dress over it. I'm going to have to try this trick, it's very clever! Gerrilyn
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Gerrilyn! Give it a shot!
DeleteThis is what I love about you Sheila, I love that you inspire me. I've not got a denim dress at all, nor have I ever worn a skirt under a short dress - inspiration indeed! Those wedge sandals look lovely too, but when they gotta go, they gotta go!
ReplyDeleteAnna x
Oh, that is so sweet of you, thank you, Anna! I know you would rock this look.
