Put On Your Red Shoes...and Wear a Blue Dress

I was still on "weekend brain" last night and didn't feel like doing a lot of effort on my outfit. What do ya do when Monday's coming? You wear a dress.
A dress with a bow is even better!

  • Dress - Birds of Canada, consignment; purchased here for $45.00
  • Floofy underskirt - Noa Noa; last worn here (2nd outfit) last June under a funky dress for the Fluevog store opening
  • Shoes - Calvin Klein; last seen here in February for the 80s Urbanite
  • Coat (below) - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last worn here a couple of weeks ago

You're not imagining it - a skirt is listed in the items above. This whack of sheer netting hanging out the bottom of my new-to-me dress is a sheer underskirt.
I wear it to give extra coverage for skirts and dresses that are a bit too short.

I loved wearing this dress today, by the way. So soft!
So comfy, but also fitted just right. Well done, dress, well done.

I'd intended on wearing a red coat over this, but it was a little warm today and my three red coats/jackets didn't look quite right.
An old favourite instead, and a red hat.

  • Hat - thrifted, Vancouver

The stuff:
Pretty basic pumps. Patent leather for the win!

Copper bling:
I liked how my copper pieces went with the pattern of the dress. Yay! Matchy!

  • Cuff - Matisse by Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage fair
  • Earrings - vintage fair
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

  1. I absolutely love this dress on you, Sheila! You look fantastic! I love the colours and print of the dress and I like the sheer underskirt you've worn underneath. Those shoes complement the dress perfectly. XXX

    1. Oh, I so agree. I need more red shoes. The underskirt makes it a bit more wearable for me.

  3. Have I ever told you how I have a very similar cuff to that which belonged to my grandmother? I put it somewhere safe when I downsized and turned my wardrobe room into a baby nursery, and I can't recall where I put it. But I think of it and my grandmother when I see yours.

I love how your easy Monday dress outfit still looks pulled together - I do that trick a lot, throw on a dress to look ready, but you always take the time to accessorise and you never look like you didn't have energy for picking out clothes! I feel sometimes it's easy to see I've thrown on a dress and hoped for the best!

    1. Oh, how cool! I hope it turns up somewhere, I'm sure it will. That's so neat that you have that to remember your grandmother by.

Aw, thank you, Mica! Accessories really make the outfit, I've found. They are always worth the effort.

  4. I have a pair of heels almost identical to these but they look SO MUCH BETTER on you than me. Maybe it's the tiny detail on the heel. Maybe...

  6. When I first saw the dress, I didn't realize it was that short. I love how you solved the "problem" by adding that underskirt. I will keep that in mind! Your red shoes are quite similar to a pair I have but haven't worn in years, as I feel a bit wobbly in them. I did wear a pair of red slingbacks today! xxx

    1. I actually quite like this length because it is a really versatile length - I can wear it with tights/knee high boots, or with a skirt or pants under it as a mini, too.

I do love a classic red pump (or court) with a pointy toe! These ones are a good height for me. Wobbly shoes? They've got to go, especially if you haven't worn them in years!

  8. I totally agree with previous comments, it's a great idea to add the underskirt to add some length when required!. Lovely dress indeed, and lovely color combo with those red accents!

  9. A bit of tulle under a dress or skirt makes it even better. I thought it was part of the dress.
