I had the idea for this outfit based around a totally different skirt - but I didn't like how it looked, so at the last minute, I swapped it out for this yellow skirt instead.
Winner! I like this look a lot better. I 'll wear the other skirt some time next week - it's a very shiny one.- Vest - 2b Bebe, consignment; last seen here in August, worn briefly over this same blouse
- Top - Free People, thrifted; first worn here - yup, in that same outfit with plaid pants in August
- Skirt - Firenze, vintage 80s, thrifted; first worn here in October with red and embroidered florals
- Booties - London; last worn here with a glamazon tiger dress in November
- Coat (below) - Apparence, vintage 80s, thrifted; last worn here last week for the trip to the dentist
This skirt is your classic pencil skirt, but totally non-classic in that yes, it is acid yellow, leather, pearlized...did I mention butter-soft leather?
I hadn't realized that I'd done this vest and top combo before, but it worked for me again. Something about the badassery of the faux leather and the studs with the sheer shirt with the ragged cuffs and ruffles (I have a black cami on underneath for extra coverage and warmth).
I had a crazy-busy day once again, but I'm determined to knuckle down and slam everything through tomorrow. There are fewer and fewer people around at work as the week goes on, so I'm hopeful I can clear the decks a bit for my time off.
Outerwear - the rain is done and now it's clear and cold. Brrr! Thank goodness for the Unsafe Polar Bear, here to keep me warm.
First wearing of this new-to-me massive scarf - it was lovely and cozy, and as you can see, it settles down to a very reasonable size when worn.
- Scarf - Masai Clothing Company, thrifted for $7.95, first wear
- Leather gloves - Danier
The stuff:
These boots get a lot of love. I had a chuckle with one of my coworkers today that in 10 years, we'll be saying, "Oh my gosh, remember 2017? The Year of the Black Bootie? They were everywhere!" They are certainly popular out here on Canada's west coast.
Sparkly bling:
First wearing of this new-to-me necklace, purchased for $5.95. I liked how nicely it went with these dangly earrings - the earrings have a matching necklace but I like how this one fills in the neckline more.
- Necklace - thrifted, $5.95, first wear
- Earrings - Plum
- Amber ring - c. 1996
- Sparkly green ring - consignment
L and I are off to see "The Last Jedi" tonight! I'm so excited! I've heard great things!
Finally, a note to all my readers, friends and relatives (hi, Mom! hi, Lois!) - I will be posting more sporadically over the next little while, as I let myself relax into the holidays. I'll still be around, and there will be posts, but my daily frequency will drop to every few days instead.
Wishing every one of you a very Happy Holidays! All the best to you and your loved ones (human and furry fam) for a safe, healthy and sane season. Thank you all so much for reading, and a huge thank you to the people who take the time to comment - it is the greatest gift to know that you connect with someone out there! Hugs from me to you!
Hello Sheila, I like the leather skirt you are wearing, you look very beautiful in it. I like the split of the skirt in the back very much. Just gorgeous !!! Many hugs, xxx Werner
ReplyDeleteThanks, Werner!
DeleteI just love the colour of your skirt and the studs and ankle boots make it so rock and roll.
ReplyDeleteHope work is as quiet and stress-free as it can be - back in my corporate hospitality days it was hell on earth - dinner for 2000 people, i still have nightmares! xxx
Thanks, Vix! Gah, work is never stress-free for me, unfortunately, but never as bad as dinner for 2K!
Deletewhat a lovely leather skirt, so cool color! and also lovely vest and layering, and all your accessories!, your new necklace is stunning!
ReplyDeleteLove to see that the Big Shawl looks so nice when worn!

ReplyDeleteOh, pshaw! I've just been doing it longer. ;-P Happy hols to you, Ally!
DeleteSheila, I have been reading you for years and have silently admired your taste, style, and ability to procure excellent vintage and used garments. Thanks for the inspiration. I've been a vintage junkie since pre-teen years and appreciate how you incorporate vintage into your wardrobe. Once I retire I'm going full on Vintage Vix (the only other blogger I still read!) but until then, hurray for keeping the workplace attire interesting and colorful! And enjoy your blessings in this festive season!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you so much for commenting, Carrie, and thank you so much for reading all these years! I love Vix's style - I don't know if I'll ever go full vintage, but the quality of it is what keeps me going back to it. A very Merry Christmas to you, and thank you again!
DeleteI just love seeing your posts. It's a highlight of my day to have some quiet time and read and study your images. I'm just continually amazed by the variety of shapes and styles that you use. Enjoy your downtime. It is well-deserved and I'll still be here waiting to read your extremely funny and honest commentary.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your comment! I truly do appreciate every reader, and to get a comment like this just makes my day! I didn't know I was funny...I am just a goofball in person. :)
DeleteI've never seen a leather skirt in that colour! I love how you went all rock chick with that studded jacket and booties! It's still grey and foggy here, and I'm longing for clear and cold days to wear my unsafe leopard. Maybe in the Christmas holidays ... Wishing you a wonderful and well-deserved break, Sheila, and happy holidays! xxx
ReplyDeleteIsn't it gorgeous? I love the dichotomy of mixing styles, ruffles and studs. We've had really erratic weather - I hope yours has been dry! Happy Holidays to you, Ann!
DeleteWhat a gorgeous skirt!!!!! Have a very merry Christmas and rejuvenating holiday season, Sheila.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cynthia! Happy holidays to you, my dear!
DeleteThe skirt is fab, Sheila and looks great with that top and vest. I love how the boots and vest complement each other and your new necklace is a great addition! I only discovered your blog (& the world of blogging!) about 6 months ago and I have loved visiting your blog every day since! Your style is inspiring, as is your attitude and sense of humour! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and wish you much happiness for 2018. Enjoy your well-earned break and be sure to give Vizzini a cuddle from me and Amber!! ;) XXX
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sasha! Aw, and I thank you so much for visiting and reading - I've enjoyed your blog right back. Happy Holidays to you and your girl Amber, hugs!
DeleteI love the yellow skirt with this, so I think it was a perfect second choice for your outfit! :) I like the vest and blouse together too.
ReplyDeleteHope that you have a merry Christmas Sheila, enjoy your holiday time and don't worry about blogging sporadically - sometimes you just need some time off from things now and then! :)
Thank you so much, Mica! I hope you and your family (Cooper too!) had a wonderful holiday, full of peace and good times. Hugs to you, my dear.
DeleteWell look at you with your long and luxurious locks! (Just goes to show what a time lapse there's been since I last visited, sorry!) Anyway, I'm glad I caught you before you went awol, hahaha. This pearlised leather skirt has to be one of my all time favourites, and I love how you've styled it up. Badass yes, but adorable non the less. Leather, studs, lace and fur is a veritable festival of fabrics and textures to delight the senses. I hope you felt truly fabulous in this outfit today and do look forward to getting back in the groove with you again.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful Christmas and do hope you enjoy some time chilling out.
Lots of love
Anna x
Ha, thanks, Anna! I'm still on holiday here but stay tuned for an update post soon. Happy holidays to you and your family, from my side of the world. Hugs to you!
DeleteHas this been the year of black boots? I thought that was every year! At least it has been for me since about 2000....But I’ve expanded my love of boots to many other colors over the years. (My own current faves are dark grey suede booties.)
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the fabulous creative dressing inspiration all year, Sheila! Enjoy some downtime over these holidays!!!!
Oh while I have no idea what the original plan was--- this totally works. That skirt is a gem.
ReplyDeleteI wore it later on this past week - I'll point it out when I wear it. Thanks, Lorena!
