Peplums and Purple Sequins

I always get a chuckle when something like sequins suddenly becomes a "you can wear X to work!" trend. I've always worn sequins for daytime!
They're especially fun at this festive time of year. Say hello to my little purple beaded skirt.

  • Jacket - Simon Chang, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here in August with graphic black and white
  • Skirt - Beaded Drama, vintage 80s, thrifted; last worn here in a fabulously tonal outfit in December 2016
  • Shoes - Chani B; last worn here (2nd outfit) last week for a dinner out
  • Leather trench (below) - vintage 70s, thrifted; last seen here in November over a cowgirl look

An all-80s silhouette calls for big hair! I'm enjoying having long hair - it's been over a decade since I had it this long.
I actually love both the jacket and skirt because they are 80s, but don't read as "stuck in the 80s", you know?

The jacket has shoulder pads, but they're not massive. It's got a double peplum, but it doesn't look dated.
The skirt is silk, all hand-beaded (some of which is starting to fall off), and heavy. It sits at my waist, but it's a good length overall.

Outerwear - leather weather! It was cold and threatening rain all day.
The hat and coat puts me firmly back another decade to the 70s. I think this trench is a classic cut, no matter what decade.

  • Hat - Delux
  • Studded leather gloves - Danier Leather
  • Scarf - Smoking Lily

The stuff:
It was a head-down, get-stuff-done kind of day. No time for messing around with uncomfortable shoes.

Purple bling:
Shiny stuff!

  • Brooch - c. 2002, Eaton's
  • Earrings - c. 1999, vintage store
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Dad's, c. 1965, Frances Jewellers
  • Crystal ring - Uffizi Gallery gift shop

  1. I love a bit if daytime sparkle! wearing sequins and glitter at night seems a bit predictable - office glitter is the way to go.
That skirt is fabulous and I love the sassy ruffled peplum on your jacket. The shoes are fabulous, I might have to steal them off you. xxx

  3. Gorgeous, this is one of the best colour combinations there are if you are me. Love the daytime sequins of course, & the fact that you have both jacket and shoes in that delicious dark teal. I believe peplums are quite in at the mo, too..

    1. Thank you, Radostin - I totally agree (of course). The jacket and shoes are actually not a perfect match, but eh, close enough. Peplums are in again? I did not know that!

  6. A fabulous skirt and I love the peplum top with it!

I need more glitter and sequins in my wardrobe - I have one glittery long cardigan, sequins on my turquoise evening coat and an Indian jacket with sequins and beads - that's it!

  7. Why not a bit of sparkle at the office, especially at this time of year? That skirt is just fabulous and I love the double peplum of the top. I love how you mix up the decades by wearing 80s on the inside and 7Os on the outside too! xxx

  9. I actually have a black sequinned skirt that I am dying to wear but think it will be "too much" ... i think if I dont wear it this holiday season, I'll probably have to wait for next.
