I Love Leopard - and Festivus is Coming!

Having run out of "new to me" clothes to build outfits out of, I've had to *gasp* work with what it in the closet. Ha! The horror!
I love leopard in pretty much every piece of clothing (although not all at once, that would be Crazy Lady, and not in a good way), so when I saw this skirt about a year ago, I snapped it up. It has been fun making it work appropriate - I also wore it here. Ha! I wore the same tights, shoes and black sash as I did today. How original.

The stuff:
Love the shoes.

Now, I know everyone is going great guns over Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanza, whatever. Hurray! That's all very well and good. But I will tell you something: I worked in a year-round Christmas store for 11 years. No, that's not a typo - eleven years. I loved doing all the decorating, the display windows, going on buying trips, all the beautiful things I was surrounded with every day...but some aspects of it, like the hours, the pay, the Christmas music (which we played every day from April until December), well, that's why they call it "work". Those parts sucked.

But I have a gorgeous collection of Christmas ornaments. In fact, I do two Christmas trees (a regular tree and a Star Wars/Star Trek tree), a village (complete with spooky graveyard and hookers and pimps...erm, it's not your usual village), and several other display areas in our condo. It takes me about a week to put it all up, and a couple of days to take it down.

And it feels like...work. Even though it's been almost 10 years since I was the Number 1 Elf, it still feels like a chore. I don't want putting up and enjoying my decorations to be a chore! And, since my husband is from a different town, and we alternate where we spend Christmas every year, I made the decision several years ago: I only put the Christmas stuff up on years when we spend Christmas day here. It's so much less stressful, and I find after two years, I really WANT to decorate and see all my lovely ornaments!

But, you may wonder, what about the "off" year, when I don't decorate? Why, it's Festivus! If you watched "Seinfeld" you know what I mean. We throw a Festivus party! We put up the pole, we have Airing of Grievances and we arm-wrestle as our Feats of Strength.

So, this weekend, I did all my decorating for the holiday season in preparation for the party this Saturday:
Isn't it a lovely pole?

Jacket (Pelican Cove, consignment), blouse (Club Monaco, consignment), skirt (Le Chateau, consignment), shoes (Fluevog, "Listen Up" Ivanna), necklace (gift from Cat), hoop earrings (gift from L).

  1. I love Fluvog! Also, that's some fine-ass decorating! :) My husband is mildly jealous of your Star Wars tree, even though we don't get to see it this year. Why, he said the other day, Why don't we have a Star Wars tree?

    Anyway, I love the leopard!

  2. Oh Sheila. How on EARTH did you survive 11 years in a Christmas store? I would've gone postal from the music alone!

  4. Black and leopard-print has to be one of my favourite colour combinations. And you wear it so well!

I am SO looking forward to Festivus, I've been talking about it for weeks. I was sick last week and slacked off on my pee-pushups though...just a few days left to get into fighting shape!

  6. Julia, Fluevogs are my favourite shoes - I have 5 or 6 pairs and want more! Ha, it's a fun tree - I will post pictures next year. Thank you!

Sal, just for you, I dug up an old speech about that very topic.

Alison, we both love being goofy and throwing parties, so it was a natural match. That sounds like the perfect solution for your pups. Our cats actually leave the trees alone (although there is a funny story about Inigo and C-3P0). Thanks!

Tina, isn't it a glorious pole? Heh, why do you think I've been doing my pushups? I was so shamed last Festivus - I placed very poorly in the Feats of Strength!

Sheryln, it's just so damned awesome, isn't it? Thank you, sweetie. I know, me too! I am so excited! Hope you're feeling better for Saturday, and get going on those pushups, girl!

Audi, yes, it's quite an impressive decorating job, ha! Thank you!

Wendy, I know - you were made for Festivus!
