I Thought It Was Black

Well, my friends, the weekend is upon us, and none too soon, as I totally mucked up today's outfit.
When I take my morning photos, I do all the indoor pictures first, including the one of my coat. Then I do the stair photo last - which is when I discovered...this sweater is not navy blue. It's black.

  • Sweater - Michael Kors, consignment; purchased here for $18.00
  • Skirt - Trina Turk, thrifted; last worn here (4th outfit) in October with patchwork
  • Shoes - Arnold Churgin, thrifted; last seen here (3rd outfit) for the wedding a couple of weeks ago
  • Coat (below) - Sfizio, consignment; last worn here in October

I noted that it was black when I bought it, but it's been sitting in the "you need to wear me" section of my closet for a couple of months, and somehow it looked dark blue to me. I planned my outfit as though it was dark blue!
In my closet...it looked great with this dark blue tulle skirt. I like the deep ribbed cuffs and waist.

Even in these pictures, sure, it's just a darker blue.
I had to redo a bunch of these this morning because I'd forgotten to put my bright pink lipstick on.

This is my "OMG, I am going to be late" face.
I did like wearing the sweater, although the neon pink angora stripes outlined the boobular mass like a topographical map. They also reminded me of "Tron" - slightly futuristic.

Outerwear - I'm all pursed lips here, as my scarf made it look like I had no neck, and I was already annoyed at myself.
My mom knows this look means Danger. However, aside from the whole wrong colour thing, my day was pretty good. Pfft, whatever, mixed up colours. Live and learn. Move on!

The stuff:
Barbie shoes! These do not hurt my bunion, thank goodness, but I will be wearing flats tomorrow to give my feet a rest.

Round bling:
I like matching shapes.

  • Cuff - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Vancouver
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Earrings - vintage fair

And with that, my friends, I am out of here until Sunday. Wishing you all a peaceful and relaxing weekend. Thank you so much for stopping by.

  1. I still liked your outfit even if the jumper and skirt didn't match as well as you'd hoped! :)

  2. Your comment about your mom knowing your look means danger made me chuckle. I think you still rocked the outfit. The bright pink shoes pulled the eye away from any color mix up.

  4. It's funny Sheila that I do a lot of unintentional lip pursing too!! ahahahaha.
Don't worry about the shortening of the neck.... no one would notice because they'd be distracted by those GORGEOUS SHOES!!!!
(I'm glad they don't nip either!

  5. I still like your outfit, and love your shoes and striped sweater, and your fab coat!. I understand that you felt dissapointed by not picking the matchy ítems (as I'm also a huge fan of matchiness), but I think that you look fabulous enough by yourself and by your attitude! and fab shoes!!!

    1. I still like it too - sometimes black and navy can be so tricky. Thanks, Monica!

  6. Hi Sheila
I think you only notice that the sweater is black in contrast to the blue skirt, but blue and black is a great combo !!
And love your barbie shoes btw !!

    1. I agree, Marisa, I like them together too. I think it was more the surprise that they weren't a match, that bothered me. I love these shoes too! So pink!

  7. That navy and black mix up happens all the time to me when I am shopping, especially when the navy is in a plaid or tweed. The lighting in many stores is deceptive, and don't get me started about the lighting in fitting rooms!

    1. Ha, good to hear you do it too, Greetje! Ugh, bad lighting is the worst.

  8. That particular mix-up has happened to me too, but usually the other way around: I think it's black but it turns out to be navy! I remember a white blouse with supposedly black polka dots back in the 80s, which turned out to be navy spots. And I absolutely hated navy at the time ;-) Anyway, I rather like this accidental look, and I'm glad to hear it didn't spoil your day. Love the pops of pink, especially those provided by your Barbie shoes, which I'm pleased to hear didn't hurt your bunion (I did read that wrong yesterday, thinking those shoes were ok). Still chuckling about your boobular mass remark ;-))) xxx

    1. Yes, I've done that too! I also used to hate navy - what's up with that? Lol, those danged boobs.

  9. I'm wearing navy and black today (intentionally!)
I think you look fab - as always, the fitted jumper is perfect with the gauzy skirt - the outfit's silhouette is perfect and those shoes are so cool I think you've more than pulled it off! xxx

  11. I do this a lot - can't tell navy blue from black. And I keep putting on my clothes the wrong way round....

You do realise the Fashion Police will be after you, Sheila, for wearing black and navy blue together?

    Have a great weekend!

    1. The lighting in my closet is very yellow, which makes some colours hard to discern, Vronni. Ha, ooh the Fashion Police, ha ha! Happy weekend to you too, my dear!

  12. With the frequency of your posting, it was inevitable we'd see the "other side" of Sheila. :)

  13. It is quite annoying when you realise you don't like something in your outfit but it's too late to change. Oh well, another day, another outfit. X

  14. I've worn navy and blue before but I understand the frustration when it's not intentional.

  15. Your colours are usually perfectly matched, so I bet most people thought this was completely intentional! Not that that helps with the annoyance. Navy and black are awful for looking like each other under certain light. (I started tying knots in the toes of my navy tights 'cos I got fed up of mixing them up with the black ones in my bedroom, only to discover at work I had the wrong ones on.)

    1. Most people I work with did not notice, Mim! It bothered me, though. I love the idea for tights, although I don't have any navy tights (yet).
