It Came From Dress Week - Grey Fog

Just 'cause it was so neat looking, this is the view from my balcony this morning:
I love fog.

How appropriate that I saved my Pre-Resolution purchase for today, my grey dress:
Nabbed it for around $26 on a clearance rack at the Bay - regular over $100. The top part of it has cables. It was so snuggly warm on a chilly day.

The jumping off point for the outfit was the tights; once I had them picked out, accessorizing the rest of it was easy. They're a nice red wine colour, so I pulled both reds and purples out of them for accents. Added the white jacket (new, Pre-Resolution) and the black accessories (both neutrals) to really finish it off. In retrospect, I would have liked the brooch on the hat instead of the coat because you can't see it with the scarf, but I didn't wear either for very long, anyway.
I got a lot of comments on these boots today, I think because I rarely wear them with a skirt. Picked them up at my favourite consignment store about a year ago - I love the cutouts.
A close-up of the jewelry:
And another fog picture - there are usually downtown buildings visible through the trees:
Dress (Mexx), jacket (Jacob), tights (Mondor), scarf (gift from Mom), boots (consignment, Zara), belt (Jacob), brooch and necklace (Plum), earrings (thrifted years ago).

  1. Those boots are fantastic and I love the punch of color with the tights!

  2. Oh Sheila,

The grey dress with the wine tights is a beautiful combo. The dress fits so nicely and makes you look so tiny. And those boots, just stunning. I love shoes and boots, my hubby calls me Imelda.

The fog pictures are eerie. Cool pics.

  3. Thanks, Tara! Welcome.

MS - I don't know why I've been hiding them under jeans all this time.

Thanks, Alison - I hear you (73 pairs of shoes).

Jane: it was pretty spooky, but it burned off and was lovely and sunny.

  4. Hey Sheila...

I worked at a shoe store when I was 16 and that just did me in. I spent most of paycheck on shoes. It's been a sickness ever since. I'm afraid to count.

  5. Alison, that would have put me in the poorhouse! How many shoes did you buy? How many do you still have?

  6. Oh gosh, I can't remember how many I bought. My favorites were green suede pumps with green snakeskin accents (wish I still had these) I bought countless pairs of tennershoes... high tops, black, white, black and white. I think by the time I quit working there and got through college I owned about 150 pairs of shoes. (that's from age 16 to 21) I think the most pairs of shoes I got rid of at one time was 25 pair. At one time in the last 10 years I had 20 pairs of Doc Martens. I've cut down quite a bit, but it's really hard for me to pass up a decent pair of shoes if they $10 or less and pass the cute quotient. I usually will buy off season to get those prices. But, as noted before, I'm in need of black and dark brown knee high boots and won't settle for anything less than real leather for those. So, I'm trying not buy any shoes until I find them. I wear a size 7 if anyone has some they want to get rid of... HA!

  7. Ooh, I'm a size 9, so you're out of luck with me.

Wow, I've only ever owned one pair of Docs - and 150 pairs! I thought I was bad with my 73.

I worked in a women's clothing store for 2 years - I think I spent every penny on suits and dresses...and then gained weight and gave them all away!

  8. What a lovely gloomy day, and what a perfect outfit for it. You look fantastic; a sweater dress really suits your body!

  9. Erica, it got sunny later on - that's how the fog is here.

Thanks! I have been a fan of sweater dresses since I got my first one when I was 17 (back in 1984).

  10. Oh man I think we got our first sweater dress at about the same time. I think mine may have been '85 when I was 13 or so. It was a gray and rainbow colored striped tube with long sleeves and a cowl neck. If I remember right, it was featured in Seventeen magazine. I loved that dress.

  11. Alison, that sounds like quite a dress! Mine was cream with a wide cowl neck - actually very similar to this grey one. I wore it with a self belt...of course, I had no idea how to wear it any other way!
