Hello, my friends! It's been a lovely, relaxing weekend, full of good times. I've got a reader request fulfilled, plus my family joined L and I for our 25th anniversary brunch. There might even be a sneaky cat picture (or three) in here.
Settle in and grab a cup of your preferred libation - here we go!
Kicking it off is our usual Saturday brunch with Nick. Fellow blogger and long-time friend
Mica requested a repeat of this rainbow skirt (go check out her awesome blog
here immediately!), so I took the opportunity to get another wearing in, along with of a pair of grey bookends.
It was a gloomy and overcast day, threatening rain, and this blast of rainbow colour is just what the doctor ordered.
- Sweater - Iris Setlakwe, thrifted; first worn here in October 2021 with a Ferre pencil skirt
- Skirt - J. Crew, consignment; first seen here a couple of weeks ago
- Boots - Prepare Volunteer, Fluevog; last worn here (3rd outfit) in November 2021 for Book Club
- Coat (below) - Danier Leather; last seen here in February for shopping
With the goal of not wearing this skirt with white or black, I split the difference.
Grey it is!
I don't have a ton of grey in my wardrobe, but I love this warm grey merino wool sweater, and the sheer silk sleeves. I will probably keep this out for spring/summer, as it's a good solo top and the arms are excellent sunblock.
The neckline is unusual - no plain grey sweaters for me (says the woman with two other grey sweaters).
I hugely enjoyed wearing this skirt again.
It just made me feel happy. Thank you, Mica, for suggesting this! I'll likely be keeping this out in my spring/summer wardrobe as well, but I'm happy to get another cooler weather outfit with it.
Masked up - we have maybe only one more week where we'll be required to show our vaccine cards.
It feels odd. I still wear my mask when I feel uncomfortable around people. You do you, I'm doin' me.
Outerwear - I'm ready for standing in line for brunch.
Yes, there are places where you don't have to stand in line, but with all the
best restaurants and diners, it's just a given. I don't mind - more chat time with Nick, sometimes folks in line, and I enjoy people-watching.
I was ready for rain with my beret.
But happily I didn't need it, and left it stuffed in my purse the whole time.
I did take this chance to wear my newly-decorated-by-me Badass Bag for the first time.
I was astounded at how much it held.
Incognito.
This is how most of the world saw me. I had oodles of comments on my colourful outfit.
Accoutrements:
Nick admired my bag, and I ran into my friend Jenn and showed it off to her. "I did this!"
- Bag - Pelle, thrifted; purchased here for $9.95 and decorated here
- Scarf - Alexander McQueen, consignment
- Beret - Club Monaco, thrifted
- Gloves - consignment
The stuff:
I've worn these boots close to 50 times in 10 years - they are getting a little worn out (the surface is wool over leather) from moth attacks.
Minimal bling:
Just a few bold pieces.
- Earrings - Brenda Schoenfeld, 1992, vintage mall
- Lapis lazuli ring/Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
I worked on my next art project in the afternoon - it's going to be a fall-themed leather jacket - out on the deck, since the sun was trying to come out.
I spread my supplies out on the benches in the corner, and sat under the grey blanket while I worked. Got my mug of tea all ready, too.
I was joined by Vizzini, who was cautious about the deck doors being open after so many months of cold.
"I am dubious."
A sneak peek at the upper back of the jacket - I'm doing the "Charlotte's Web" trick of spelling out something in spider webs. Can you read it?
The young crows chattered and cawed and hopped around in the maple tree above us.
It's just starting to unfurl its flower clusters and leaves. Another couple of weeks of warmer weather and we'll have a canopy of green.
Vizzini ensconced himself on a cushion.
"I see you made space for me."
At one point, he got curious about my pens.
"I smell rubber band."
Oops, better move that - he's a fiend for elastic bands, but they are bad for him to eat.
A funny pic of L later on Saturday night as we played boardgames.
"I'm helping."
L is mock-frowning because we are losing the game.
On Sunday, we had a leisurely sleep-in before getting ready to head to Moxie's for our 25th anniversary family brunch. I have a reputation as "Wacky Auntie Sheila", so I had to wear something appropriate.
This new-to-me jumpsuit is perfect! Glitter!
- Jacket - InWear; last seen here earlier this month with plaid and a statement scarf
- Jumpsuit - Eva Franco, consignment; purchased here new-with-tags for $109.00
- Shoes - Summertime Moonbeams, Fluevog 2007, consignment; last worn here in January with plaid
I wore this orange blazer again - what a useful piece it's been.
It's outerwear, plus badassitude.
Here's jumpsuit without the jacket. I took the matching self-belt off and removed the belt loops - no one tells me where my waist is!
I dislike wearing strapless brass (too much hoiking), so I just layered a rust-coloured cami over my black bra.
Screw it, I don't care about the straps.
Seriously, who makes clothes that don't go with real underwear? It would have been so easy to make this jumpsuit so that it covers bra straps.
I like the look of the blazer over it.
I felt very glittery and snazzy.
We drove down - no walking in these shoes.
Don't you love the ginormous legs? So swooshy!
Masked up.
Not for long, though!
Incognito.
I love it when it's warm enough to wear a blazer as outerwear.
Accoutrements:
Another wearing of my new-to-me McQueen scarf.
- Purse - Fairweather, c. 1999
- Scarf - Alexander McQueen, consignment, Vancouver
- Gloves - Roeckl, consignment
- Mask - by Mom - a new one, with copper specks
The stuff:
Badass shoes.
Coppery bling:
The jumpsuit fabric goes so well with my copper collection.
- Belt - Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage fair
- Copper/turquoise cuff - Bell Trading Post, vintage 60s, consignment, Powell River
- Copper/enamel cuff - Matisse by Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage expo
- Earrings - vintage expo
- Brooch - thrifted
- Brutalist ring - vintage 70s, vintage mall
- Wooden ring - Dots
We enjoyed a lovely late brunch with my fam, including a delicious chocolate cake, courtesy of my aunt Lois.
I may have gotten a bit stabby with the knife...
And last, but not least, here's L and I:
Here's to many more years of good times, my love!
Thanks so much for joining me, my friends!
