Grey Shorts Suit, Mustard and Leopard

We're down to the wire now, with only a few outfit opportunities left in my spring/summer wardrobe season. Ann, I haven't forgotten about your request - it will be my final work outfit before the closet swap-over.

Because I only have one more reader request to go, I decided to pick a few things myself that I've been wanting to wear again, like these shorts - which I fully intended on wearing this season and have not - and this amazing vintage early 00s Vivienne Westwood Red Label blazer.
I made them into a suit! I was inspired by Lovely the blogger (link here), specifically, this post here from October 2021 - I even left a comment saying she'd inspired me to wear shorts with a suit jacket! And then I never did - so it's about time!

  • Jacket - Vivienne Westwood Red Label, thrifted; last seen here in February with orange Boss Lady pants
  • Blouse - H&M, thrifted; last worn here in January with tweed and swirls
  • Shorts - David Brooks, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here in August 2021 with baby blue and dots
  • Shoes - Banana Republic, consignment; last worn here in January with browns and leopard
  • Loomed Lady coat (below) - vintage 60s, thrifted; last seen here in November 2021

My extra inspiration came from Kristen Stewart's rock & roll outfit at the Oscars on Sunday (link here 'cause I love) - shorts and jacket, with a loose blouse underneath.
While my outfit is a far cry from the Chanel ensemble she wore, I do have a little bit of chi-chi designer in my look to give me swagger.

My swanky blazer just oozes quality - it's 100% wool, and has Westwood's signature "holy hand grenade" design woven into the lining and etched into the buttons. I have another grey blazer by her that is my spring/summer version.
The shorts are also wool, and are from the 80s - can you see the massive pleats?

You know what they say about big pleats? Yup, big pockets!
I pulled out this blouse due to the floppy bow at the front. I'm a fan of this mustard/marigold shade - it's surprisingly useful.

Masked up - one of my three leopard ones.
From there, I added the leopard belt and shoes. Pretty easy!

Outerwear - it's chilly in the mornings, but warm and sunny in the afternoons.
Perfect weather for the Loomed Lady!

Accoutrements:
I walked home with my blazer and coat wide open, gloves and scarf stuffed in my pockets.

  • Scarf - Pierre Cardin, vintage 70s, thrifted
  • Gloves - Parkhurst
  • Mask - Lazy Susan's

Eh, that's how it goes in spring! Wait ten minutes and the weather will change.

The stuff:
I'm still on the lookout for the Perfect Leopard Shoes. I have this high-heeled pair in my Archives, but that heel is just too high for me these days - and yes, the ones I'm wearing today are the mentioned pair that I turfed into the giveaway pile in that post! I pulled them out again, as I like the block heel. I'm not a fan of that "loafer" toe/vamp, although they look better with this menswear-ish look than with a dress.

Gold bling:
Taking my cue from the gold buckle on the belt and the golden tones of the blouse.

  • Belt - Talbots, thrifted
  • Necklace - Anne Klein, vintage 80s, Grandma J's
  • Bracelet/earrings set - Alexis Bittar, consignment; gift from L
  • "Fang" bracelet - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Sidney
  • Brass ring - vintage mall
  • Steel ring - POLY by Christoph Poly, vintage expo
  • Brooch - vintage mall

Laurie's Request: Blue Boots and Anna Sui

Thanks to friend and reader Laurie for today's outfit suggestion. She wanted to see these blue boots with my Anna Sui skirt, along with this cobalt blue sleeveless top.
You were right, Laurie, they all work beautifully together!

  • Jacket - /id collection/Peacock Jacket embellishments by me, thrifted; last worn here in February
  • Blue top - no label, thrifted; not tracked
  • Skirt - Anna Sui, thrifted; last worn here in November 2021 with burgundy bookends
  • Boots - Official Sabado, Fluevog; last seen here a week ago with blue and red/orange
  • Sleeveless coat - Only, thrifted; last worn here in February

Full confession: I had put the Anna Sui skirt in the giveaway pile.
I'd felt iffy about it both of the last times I wore it, but it has been calling to me....

"Sheila...take me back...I have more potential..."
And I do really love it with the blue boots. Excellent call!

I was casting about in my closet, looking for a topper for the outfit, when I had the inspiration to add my Peacock Jacket.
The colour, the roses...I liked how it worked.

Masked up.
And buttoned up. Although I only wore it that way while I had my sleeveless coat on.

Outerwear - there we go. Sleeveless coat - perfect for this time of year.
It poured on the way to work, but the beret kept most of my hair dry. I know it scares some of you that my artwork is being exposed to the weather, or wear and tear - honest, this ink is not going anywhere. It doesn't wear off at all. It's meant to be worn!

Accoutrements:
My pink set. I only needed the gloves on the way home.

  • Scarf - Portolano, thrifted
  • Beret - Club Monaco, thrifted
  • Gloves - consignment
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
I bought sport insoles for these, which has snugged them up in the toe-box nicely, and given them an even cushier foot-bed. I did have to adjust the laces slightly, but not a big deal.

Gold bling:
Just a few complementary pieces.

  • Chain - vintage 80s, Grandma J's
  • Gold hoops - 5th anniversary gift from L
  • Brass ring - vintage mall
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

I have only a few outfits left in this closet season and only one request left unfulfilled yet, so I'll also be doing a couple of outfits with my own favourite(s) this week. Exciting!

Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Request Rainbow Brunch; Sneaky Cat; and Glitter Anniversary Brunch

Hello, my friends! It's been a lovely, relaxing weekend, full of good times. I've got a reader request fulfilled, plus my family joined L and I for our 25th anniversary brunch. There might even be a sneaky cat picture (or three) in here.

Settle in and grab a cup of your preferred libation - here we go!

Kicking it off is our usual Saturday brunch with Nick. Fellow blogger and long-time friend Mica requested a repeat of this rainbow skirt (go check out her awesome blog here immediately!), so I took the opportunity to get another wearing in, along with of a pair of grey bookends.
It was a gloomy and overcast day, threatening rain, and this blast of rainbow colour is just what the doctor ordered.

  • Sweater - Iris Setlakwe, thrifted; first worn here in October 2021 with a Ferre pencil skirt
  • Skirt - J. Crew, consignment; first seen here a couple of weeks ago
  • Boots - Prepare Volunteer, Fluevog; last worn here (3rd outfit) in November 2021 for Book Club
  • Coat (below) - Danier Leather; last seen here in February for shopping

With the goal of not wearing this skirt with white or black, I split the difference.
Grey it is!

I don't have a ton of grey in my wardrobe, but I love this warm grey merino wool sweater, and the sheer silk sleeves. I will probably keep this out for spring/summer, as it's a good solo top and the arms are excellent sunblock.
The neckline is unusual - no plain grey sweaters for me (says the woman with two other grey sweaters).

I hugely enjoyed wearing this skirt again.
It just made me feel happy. Thank you, Mica, for suggesting this! I'll likely be keeping this out in my spring/summer wardrobe as well, but I'm happy to get another cooler weather outfit with it.

Masked up - we have maybe only one more week where we'll be required to show our vaccine cards.
It feels odd. I still wear my mask when I feel uncomfortable around people. You do you, I'm doin' me.

Outerwear - I'm ready for standing in line for brunch.
Yes, there are places where you don't have to stand in line, but with all the best restaurants and diners, it's just a given. I don't mind - more chat time with Nick, sometimes folks in line, and I enjoy people-watching.

I was ready for rain with my beret.
But happily I didn't need it, and left it stuffed in my purse the whole time.

I did take this chance to wear my newly-decorated-by-me Badass Bag for the first time.
I was astounded at how much it held.

Incognito.
This is how most of the world saw me. I had oodles of comments on my colourful outfit.

Accoutrements:
Nick admired my bag, and I ran into my friend Jenn and showed it off to her. "I did this!"

  • Bag - Pelle, thrifted; purchased here for $9.95 and decorated here
  • Scarf - Alexander McQueen, consignment
  • Beret - Club Monaco, thrifted
  • Gloves - consignment

The stuff:
I've worn these boots close to 50 times in 10 years - they are getting a little worn out (the surface is wool over leather) from moth attacks.

Minimal bling:
Just a few bold pieces.

  • Earrings - Brenda Schoenfeld, 1992, vintage mall
  • Lapis lazuli ring/Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

I worked on my next art project in the afternoon - it's going to be a fall-themed leather jacket - out on the deck, since the sun was trying to come out.
I spread my supplies out on the benches in the corner, and sat under the grey blanket while I worked. Got my mug of tea all ready, too.

I was joined by Vizzini, who was cautious about the deck doors being open after so many months of cold.
"I am dubious."

A sneak peek at the upper back of the jacket - I'm doing the "Charlotte's Web" trick of spelling out something in spider webs. Can you read it?

The young crows chattered and cawed and hopped around in the maple tree above us.
It's just starting to unfurl its flower clusters and leaves. Another couple of weeks of warmer weather and we'll have a canopy of green.

Vizzini ensconced himself on a cushion.
"I see you made space for me."

At one point, he got curious about my pens.
"I smell rubber band."

Oops, better move that - he's a fiend for elastic bands, but they are bad for him to eat.

A funny pic of L later on Saturday night as we played boardgames.
"I'm helping."

L is mock-frowning because we are losing the game.

On Sunday, we had a leisurely sleep-in before getting ready to head to Moxie's for our 25th anniversary family brunch. I have a reputation as "Wacky Auntie Sheila", so I had to wear something appropriate.
This new-to-me jumpsuit is perfect! Glitter!

  • Jacket - InWear; last seen here earlier this month with plaid and a statement scarf
  • Jumpsuit - Eva Franco, consignment; purchased here new-with-tags for $109.00
  • Shoes - Summertime Moonbeams, Fluevog 2007, consignment; last worn here in January with plaid

I wore this orange blazer again - what a useful piece it's been.
It's outerwear, plus badassitude.

Here's jumpsuit without the jacket. I took the matching self-belt off and removed the belt loops - no one tells me where my waist is!
I dislike wearing strapless brass (too much hoiking), so I just layered a rust-coloured cami over my black bra.

Screw it, I don't care about the straps.
Seriously, who makes clothes that don't go with real underwear? It would have been so easy to make this jumpsuit so that it covers bra straps.

I like the look of the blazer over it.
I felt very glittery and snazzy.

We drove down - no walking in these shoes.
Don't you love the ginormous legs? So swooshy!

Masked up.
Not for long, though!

Incognito.
I love it when it's warm enough to wear a blazer as outerwear.

Accoutrements:
Another wearing of my new-to-me McQueen scarf.

  • Purse - Fairweather, c. 1999
  • Scarf - Alexander McQueen, consignment, Vancouver
  • Gloves - Roeckl, consignment
  • Mask - by Mom - a new one, with copper specks

The stuff:
Badass shoes.

Coppery bling:
The jumpsuit fabric goes so well with my copper collection.

  • Belt - Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage fair
  • Copper/turquoise cuff - Bell Trading Post, vintage 60s, consignment, Powell River
  • Copper/enamel cuff - Matisse by Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage expo
  • Earrings - vintage expo
  • Brooch - thrifted
  • Brutalist ring - vintage 70s, vintage mall
  • Wooden ring - Dots

We enjoyed a lovely late brunch with my fam, including a delicious chocolate cake, courtesy of my aunt Lois.
I may have gotten a bit stabby with the knife...

And last, but not least, here's L and I:
Here's to many more years of good times, my love!

Thanks so much for joining me, my friends!

Fancy Friday: Sam's Request: Big Boss Lady Pants, and Coat-Swooning

Reader and fellow blogger Sam (here, go follow this awesome person!) said she likes my "boss lady pants" and "it's your coats that I swoon over," so Sam, here's your request granted.
Boom! Big Pink Boss Lady Pants! Just for you.

  • Jacket - Talbots, thrifted; last worn here in January with a leopard skirt
  • Shirt - Karl Lagerfeld, thrifted; last seen here (3rd outfit) in May 2021 with grey and black
  • Pants - H&M, consignment, Vancouver; last worn here in February for a Pink Lady V-Day
  • Shoes - Napoleoni, thrifted; last seen here in October 2021 with cord co-ords
  • Coat (below) - Cache, consignment; last worn here in March

Not that I ever need an excuse to wear these stupendous pink pants - they are the acme of Perfect Pink Boss Pants.
I wanted an outfit to feature the new-to-me belt too - and these trousers have a high waist.

From there, it was just a matter of picking a top, jacket and shoes.
This velvet blazer keeps making the cut - it's a silk/cotton blend. So soft.

Masked up.
More leopard!

Outerwear - I hope this coat is appropriately swoon-worthy for you, Sam.
It is the Pinnacle of Leopard Coats. Remember, kids, Always Be Upgrading!

Accoutrements:
And will ya look at that, I just thrifted the perfect scarf for this outfit! Leopard and floral, with pink.

  • Scarf - Careta, vintage, thrifted; purchased here for $16.95
  • Gloves - Ralph Lauren, consignment
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
These shoes are a burgundy-brown - they are a nice warm neutral, and look at that sweet gold heel! Wee!

Snaky stuff:
Much-missed coworker Fiona was in the office today, and was MUCH impressed that I had matched my belt, bracelet and earrings.

  • Belt - Rodier, vintage 80s, thrifted; purchased here for $4.95
  • Gold coil cuff - Whiting & Davis, vintage 80s, vintage fair
  • Silver ring - BC Museum Gift Shop, 1986
  • Earrings - Red Sky

When I pointed out the ring, she gasped. I always go to 11.

And finally, if the plain leopard coat didn't cause a fit of the vapours, perhaps I can persuade you with the red satin lining? I had zero Velvet Rage with this coat over the blazer - now that's how you know you have a quality coat!
I'm also throwing in my brown and pink floral Doc Martens (consignment, last worn here in January on the blog), and a pair of shades (Incognito Mode), to keep it real - I wear them to walk to and from work if there's no rain in the forecast.

Have a wonderful weekend, my friends. I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure!
