Floofy Friday

Happy Friday! I hope your day was as floofy and flowy as mine!

The floofiness (floofiacity?) is entirely due to this wondrous cotton skirt. It is nearly a full circle skirt, and the double layers give it extra movement. It's quite fun to swoosh around in it. I last wore it here in May (2nd outfit) as part of a casual weekend ensemble.

This is my first wearing of it to work, and I was quite pleased with it. Now I'm debating whether I should keep it in my autumn/winter wardrobe. Hmmm...not sure how well the cotton would work with tights, but I could always wear a slip under it. Thoughts?

The blouse is my flies silk Smoking Lily top, also last worn in May here, only with a suede skirt and yellow shoes. I never realized that the top dips down in the front and back, which gives it a nice shape over the full skirt.

I yanked everything in at the middle with my leather obi.

Cream and Coffee

Ah, I'm back from the gym, had burgers and corn on the cob for dinner, and wine when L gets home from his guitar lesson. Life is good.

I'd forgotten about this top! I last wore it here in June, again with oodles of chains. I really love the cut-out shoulder on it - I'm feeling good about my arms lately. I actually have muscles!

I never thought this cream satin pencil skirt would be a staple in my wardrobe, but it's been over 3 years since I bought it in the St. Vincent de Paul thrift store for $12.00. I last wore it here with leopard and pearls, in June.

The obi worked well over the super-high waist.

The stuff:

My gloriously comfy and awesome Sumatra Coffee Fluevogs, which I've had since spring 2011. I last wore them here in March, when it was tights and Etro blazer weather. I love this shoe.

Big bling:

Orange Tweed and Blue Satin (and a Shark)

Hey, all! I just want to give a shout-out to the new readers and commenters - not sure how you found me, but I'm glad you did. Thank you to my blogger friends new and old, recent and long-time, for reading, following me, and for being here on the journey. 

And onto the outfit.

I wanted to wear this blouse again (last seen here in July with emerald green culottes) and I wanted to wear this fabulous skirt again.

I've had this skirt since 2009, and last wore it in the May 2012 capsule (recap here). I can't believe it's been that long since I wore it! I left it in with my spring/summer wardrobe in March so that I'd get some warm weather wear from it (it's a tweed made of silk and wool), and here it is August and I'm finally wearing it. Tsk tsk.

For those of you who are fairly new to visiting me, you can click back on the "last worn" links, which will take you back...and back...and back, to when I first got most of my clothes. Ever since I started blogging in 2008, I have linked back to the last time I wore items. I sometimes like clicking through and "visiting" my old clothes - it's fun to see how I've styled things differently over the years. But it's quite onerous to do with every outfit's pieces, so feel free to poke around.

The stuff:

My funky floral and wooden soled Fluevogs. I last wore them here in June with oodles of chains. They are surprisingly comfortable, considering that there is only a slim layer of padding in them.

One of the pink striped domes on the bottom bracelet popped off while I was setting up a catered lunch at work. I have glued it with my trusty Zap-a-Gap and now it's all good.

Red, Black and a Shoe Banishment

Work is so dead this week; a huge chunk of our staff are on vacation over the next few weeks. Less people means less work for me. It's kind of nice, though, as my work is usually insanely busy. I get to recharge a little bit.

Today felt like a Monday! And what do we do on Mondays? We wear a dress! Well, sometimes we do.

This is my lovely black shirtdress, last seen here a couple of weeks ago with blue and birds.

Today, it's all about pops of red! One of my favourite layering pieces is this awesome vintage red slip - I bought it on consignment in 2010 and I've had such fun layering it under other dresses. What? Examples? Oh, okay.

• July 2010: At the time, this was my favourite outfit I'd ever created. Realizing I could layer things was mind-boggling! There's a picture of just the slip there so you can see what it looks like.
• October 2010: It was the perfect layer for my Mad Hatter Hallowe'en costume!
• February 2011: As a red layer under a brown lace dress for Valentine's Day.
• April 2011: A much-needed cover-up under my Smoking Lily wrap dress.
• July 2011: Under my cowgirl plaid dress - I loved that shirtdress.
• November 2011 (2nd outfit): Worn for warmth (and showing off by lifting the hem) with my awesome plaid dress.
• December 2011: Just the ruffled hem showed underneath this dress during the Invasion of Dress Week!
• August 2012: With a beige shirtdress - a very similar outfit to today's, but I turfed the dress. Such a bad colour on me.
• September 2012: Layered under a polka dot dress for Dress Week of Horrors!
• October 2012: As part of my Steampunk Vampire Killer costume (and scene of the crime of the Worst Hangover Ever).

I'm pretty sure I've worn it more than that, but sometimes I'm too lazy to look up and tag the brand when I write my posts. Heh.

The stuff:

Hello, sexy shoes! I last wore these pony-hair zebra slingbacks last August, here, for the August capsule Wild Card outfit. They were worn to a party then (I carried them to the party, and then put them on) and I noted then that they were a great party shoe...but I've only worn them 3 times total on the blog since I've had them (over 3 years). And they killed my heels and the bottoms of my feet today.

So, goodbye, sexy shoes! Off to the donate/swap pile you go!

Long, Long Weekend Edition: Pink Satin, Dresses and Purple Flutters

Hey, blogosphere, how was your weekend? Up in Canada, this is a long weekend - most provinces had a stat holiday (BC Day here in British Columbia, aka BC). So, after a leisurely and relaxing weekend, here I am looking at another week coming. 

Friday seems so long ago! But this is what I wore.

My lovely pink satin silk skirt was back from the tailor - a new waistband and zipper cost $40. Ouch. I am not entirely sure that this skirt was worth it, but only time will tell. I purchased the skirt here for $7.00.

Yeah, I couldn't be bothered to iron it, plus it got a lot of wrinkles during the day on Friday. I defrosted the mini fridge, so it got wet and I did a lot of kneeling while jabbing a knife into the block of ice that was the freezer. I love my job.

The vest hasn't been worn since March, here, when I put it with my black suede maxi skirt.

I last wore this tie-front floral blouse here in April, on a very party-heavy weekend. The shoes were last worn for L's birthday weekend carousing here in early June.

I am totally late for the Hat Attack! party over at Judith's. I love hats, though, and if I could have worn one all day, it would have been this one.

After work on Friday, I headed out to a pub with some coworkers to send off one of our Admins. Much fun (and bus-riding) ensued.

We finally had enough people for a game of Ultimate on Saturday morning, so I scouted out the closet for something presentable to wear.

My closet is a bit of a mess right now - I'm in the home stretch of my spring/summer wardrobe, and will be doing a big cull in early September. I'll be hosting a big swap party for coworkers and friends, so I know my stuff will go to a good home! For those readers who've asked, I don't sell my stuff online, but if there's ever an item that you covet, let me know. If I remove it from my wardrobe, I'll send it to you.

I ended up with this super-stretchy dress over a camisole and slip. You can't even tell I have a sports bra on!

I last wore this dress here in April for Forbidden Dress Week!

The shoes are my wonderfully comfy Wonders Ayers, last seen here in May with a mushroom skirt.

Our game was intense! We had very evenly-matched teams and it went on for nearly 2 hours. I am still feeling sore today from all the sprinting, but it's a good sore.

After brunch out with the gang after the game, L and I came home and napped for a bit. It was our friend Nick's birthday so we walked to town and hung out in a pub all night with between 8 and 15 of our friends. A good drunken time was had by all!

I felt like being very visible so I did this fun strapless 80s party dress, last seen here back in February with a Smoking Lily jacket.

There was no way I could do heels with this after such a physical morning, so I stuck with my black kitten heels, last seen here in July with my now-gone pink satin jacket.

It always gets cold here in the evenings - there is a chilly breeze off the ocean at night - so I wore my just-dry-cleaned black blazer as cover-up. I last wore it in May, here (2nd outfit). The purse is an old vintage one I've had for over 10 years.

The stuff:

 A little simple bling, including my leather cuff.

Yesterday/Sunday, we spent most of the day chillin' and watching NFL stuff on TV, then played boardgames last night.

After a bit of a sleep-in this morning, we went for brunch, then spent a couple of hours buying L two new suits for work. I stayed loose and casual.

This skirt is one of my favourites: silk, purple, fluttery ends. Love!

I last wore this skirt (with these same shoes) here in May while recovering from beer-induced hives. I wore the shoes here (last outfit) on L's birthday weekend for a day off too. I guess they are my "day off" shoes!

The tunic top and the drapey cardigan were last worn together with jeans, here, in May when I was first hit by the hops hives.

A pretty simple outfit, and just right for strolling around town on a sunny holiday Monday.

L bought me this in the Migration Boutique - it's locally made, and was $20. I like sharks.

Beam Me Up

No secret: I am a major "Star Trek" nerd. My dad introduced me to the original series back in the 70s when it was in re-runs, and I was majorly into "Next Generation" in the 90s. 

All I need is my Federation insignia and some pips on my collar!

This jacket is a cotton stretch cream that's been covered with silver, sort of brushed on. It reads as very shiny! I wore this last in the January 2013 capsule (recap here) in two outfits. I noted at the time that I couldn't wait to wear it again in spring. Um...and here we are in August...

The skirt is my plumy-purple brocade (with pockets!), that I last wore here in May with a plethora of colours. Today, it's the only colour.

The only regret I have about the last vintage fair I went to is that I didn't buy myself the vintage Star Trek pins. One has to indulge one's inner nerd, ya know.

The stuff:

The first wear of my awesome Brave belt (purchased on consignment here) and the third wear of these fab kitten heels. Rhinestones? Check! Faux croc? Check! Faux Snakeskin? Check! I last wore them here in June with blue and cream.

I liked the contrast of the space-y jacket with the organic shape of the skirt and the leather belt/shoes.

I also wore all wooden jewelry. Because isn't wood kind of the opposite of shiny space material?

He was so cute. I hate saying goodbye to him in the mornings.

Tonight when I got home from the gym and had finished dinner (mmm...salmon burgers and salad), and uploaded my photos, I found a bonus one of our little monster.

"I am going to eat your foot."

L must have been playing with him while I was making dinner. He's in total attack mode.
