Today's outfit features one of my favourite shiny skirts that gets a wearing every season, along with a newer luxe favourite.
I love velvet, but Velvet Creep evokes Velvet Rage in me. This bomber jacket happily seems to not have that issue. It's so soft and velvety.
- Jacket - Zara, consignment; last worn here in March with the same necklace and sweater
- Sweater - Zara, pass-along from Rae; last seen here a couple of weeks ago with dragonscale
- Shirt - Yest; last worn here layered under leather two weeks ago
- Skirt - Club Monaco, consignment; last seen (and Flashbacked) here in December 2020 with blue cashmere and brocade boots
- Boots - Mamzelle, thrifted; last worn here in October for my shop with Vero
- Coat (below) - Donna Karan, consignment; last seen here in December 2020
Lots of layering going on here - the temps have been hovering between 4 and -1. Brr!
I like the layered look of a sweater over a shirt.
This thin sweater has turned out to be a very useful item in my wardrobe.
The bomber jacket is so fun - the mix of autumnal colours in the "jungle" pattern appeals to me.
And here we are, on the Winter Solstice - autumn is over for another year. Oh yay, winter.
Isn't the skirt cute? I've had it for around 8 years. It's tinged a greenish-gold, and I adore the deep pockets. I'm wearing fleece-lined tights today for extra warm legs.
Masked up.
Only a few people around in the office today, which I'm totally fine with as the Omicron cases soar in my province.
Outerwear - I'd forgotten about this down-filled puffer coat.
It ties inside and outside as a true wrap. It doesn't give a ton of coverage (especially in the wind) but it is snuggly warm. I pulled the hood up for the cold walk home.
Accoutrements:
The scarf was so perfectly matchy to my outfit, but it wasn't very warm.
- Scarf - Pierre Cardin, vintage 70s, thrifted
- Gloves - Parkhurst
- Mask - by Mom
I nearly wore a fedora, but eschewed it once I decided on the hooded coat.
The stuff:
I felt like wearing a chunky boot. It was that kind of day. Clomp, clomp.
Minimal bling:
Just a few pieces I like and have had forever.
- Necklace - Plum, c. 2009
- Earrings - LA Express, c. 1993
- Brass/jade ring - vintage 70s, Mom's
- Spinner ring - Twang & Pearl
One more day to go!
Your skirt is fabulous, and the velvet jacket looks cool on you. Totally love this look!

Thank you, Lovely!
DeleteSuch a good look! That skirt is fantastic. I think that lenght is so perfect for you. Layering is the best for me as I'm always cold, but I also think it adds interest. We are in lockdown here and it's freezing so I could be down.... but I'm not, lol. Its almost Christmas!! Dressing up and the sun is shining today so I'm going for a, mental, walk!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nancy! I love short skirts - they work well on short me!
DeleteEnjoy your walk.
You are shining with a farewell to Autumn and a welcoming of holiday cheer! Everything about your outfit, including accessories and outerwear, speaks to me! I see comfort, strength, seasonal transition, and relaxation.
ReplyDeleteHang in there Sheila, today is Wednesday and soon - very soon - you will be on vacation! Here’s to happy and healthy holidays for you and your family!
Thank you, Laurie! I know...not long now...
DeleteAll the best to you for the holiday season, my dear!
The velvet rage did make me laugh, it can be such a pain to wear but looks so fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThose boots are fab and perfect with the skirt. It's been icy here lately but I think we're expecting a whopping 11°c tomorrow, It'd be good to feel my face again.
Nearly there nowm, you can do it! xxx
Thanks, Vix! We are in for very cold temps this week, plus SNOW. Eeek!
DeleteI know... not much longer...
Last day for me tomorrow and indeed, the week has certainly been dragging on for me as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm hearing you on velvet rage and I'm glad to hear that jacket was on its best behaviour. The skirt is delightful, and I'm loving the layered look of the shirt and jumper. That's a brilliant mask too! That puffer coat looks quite warm, so I'm surprised to hear that it isn't. It's been a cold couple of days here, with sub-zero temperatures, but lots of sunshine. Typically, warmer temperatures and rain have been forecasted for the holidays. Pff. Almost there now! xxx
Woo hoo, hope it goes quickly for you, Ann, so you can enjoy some time off.
DeleteThe velvet jacket was awesome (phew). The puffer is warm, but it is only secured with the two ties - in the wind, it opens right up (arg).
Sub-zero is on the way for us, plus SNOW. I say NO to snow!
Hello Sheila! you look so good in this combination! I love the layered look of the shirt and jumper and this outfit has bling but comfort! Now I cannot believe it is a year since your mammoth Christmas decoration posts and here we are again! I have not visited for ages and that is my loss. When things settle down after Christmas I will be pouring a hot drink and looking back through the old posts. Stay safe and have a wonderful Christmas Shazx
ReplyDeleteSHAZ, I have missed you, my dear! I hope you are well. No worries about catching up - I'm not going anywhere. :) Merry Christmas to you!
DeleteVelvet rage, precisely ….but oh the beauty of the fabric, it’s devine.
ReplyDeleteLove the colour and style of your skirt, quite unusual and good sheen.
The chunky boots and puffer coat look great together.

I don't know if it hits anyone else like this but the skirt reminds me of Roman gladiators. :) Happy holidays, buddy.
ReplyDeleteYes! The deep box pleats give it that effect. Happy holidays, Ally! *hug*
DeleteI love the gold of the jacket and skirt together, it's such a nice combination! And very suitably shiny for getting through the tough last days at work before a break!
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit, especially that fabulous gold mini skirt. What a statement piece!
ReplyDeleteOooh, that puffer coat! No one can say a puffer coat is stylish…unless it’s you! It’s perfect! I love the outfit, but that coat just speaks to me…probably because I’m cold!

I am not a fan of mini skirts but I will admit I think this outfit is stellar. Really good. Proportion wise and colour combination wise. Well done Sheila.

Fantastic chilly weather ensemble. I sincerely question sometimes how those of us who live in Canada and other especially snowy corners of the globe got by before fleece lined tights. I've been hooked for years now, often wearing mine straight onto May or even June, if spring/summer is late in arriving. Who ever invented this form of hosiery had a serious stroke of genius that day!
