Weekend Wrap-Up: Brunch Dress Over Pants; Gaming Stripes

And, I'm back - and with an afternoon of football ahead of me, I'm going to chill out for the rest of the day. I hope you've all had a lovely weekend!

L and I met up with Randall for brunch on Saturday morning (Yvonne was busy, and Nick is in Nova Scotia visiting his folks) at the Ruby, per our usual. We're regulars there - the staff all know us now.

Sneaking in a wearing of this Italian designer dress...worn for the first time not as a dress!
The last time I wore it, I did a Flashback and reviewed the original runway collection and how this dress was styled.

  • Dress - I'M Isola Marras, Spring/Summer 2013, Florence, Italy; last worn and Flashbacked here in September 2020
  • Sweater - Eileen Fisher, thrifted; last seen here in May with a vintage green skirt
  • Trousers - H&M, consignment, Vancouver; last worn here in June for tea with Mom
  • Boots - Coffee Kope Tiam, Fluevog; last seen here in August with my homemade kimono

It went down the runway with a pair of long shorts under it and cowboy boots - it fully unbuttons down the front, but I've always worn it done up.
My brain suddenly decided, "You should wear it with pants!" - and my pink trousers were close enough to pick up the soft pink in the pattern.

I layered a tank-style sweater under it and left the dress open down the front, aside from the single button at the neck - I really liked how this looked.
I had loads of comments on this, including a lovely young lady who said, "I love your style!" Thank you!

The dress billowed out behind me as I walked up to Dots after brunch, the sun on my face.
I browsed around while L ran a couple of errands.
Masked up for every indoor public space.

  • Mask - by Mom

Incognito mode.
Ready with my bag - one of the colours in the dress is purple.
Again, it's all goes - it doesn't necessarily match, but that's okay!

The stuff:
My feet were a little tired after walking 8 blocks in these booties - I just can't do heels like I used to!

Bold bling:
I stuck mostly to greens and aquas.

  • Belt - Shi Studio
  • Lion head buckle - from a Zara belt, thrifted
  • Brass/pearl/turquoise cuff - Myka, consignment
  • Turquoise ring - Karen's
  • Coral/olivine ring - vintage 70s, Hawaii, Mom's
  • Silver/aventurine ring - consignment
  • Bangles - thrifted
  • Earrings - consignment

My Dots shopping tends to be either basics or wacky stuff. I bought my current white shirt there and often pick up plain camisoles or tights when they have them. This would be a basic (in case you weren't sure!).
I've been mentally going through my fall wardrobe, and thinking about what I need. A red sweater was in my head. This is a nice fine viscose/nylon turtleneck and will be great for layering.

The brand is Basic By Yest and was $29.99.
L thought that was a good deal (especially since it's regular $75.00!), but I'm so used to paying under $10 for everything that I have to remind myself that it's okay to spend a bit more on a quality basic item.

On Saturday night, L and I went to Cat and Ross' place to hang out and play boardgames.
Comfort and layers were key - and as we walked there and back, I had to consider footwear as well.

  • Denim vest - Only, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in July with ORANGE LEATHER SHORTS
  • Dress - InWear; first seen here (2nd outfit) in April for Book Club
  • Boots - 1883 Lucchesse, thrifted; first worn here (2nd outfit) in July with this denim vest (same outfit as above)
  • The Loomed Lady coat (below) - vintage, thrifted; last seen here in April

I decided to get another wearing in of this comfy striped dress (another Dots purchase - this falls into the wacky category). It's a thick t-shirt-ish material, very comfy for extended sitting. I love the stripes.
"Hey, wait a second...are you going out?"

The vest didn't end up getting worn, as it was quite warm at Cat/Ross' place.

I wore it walking to and from their house, though, under my coat.
"I should really get my kitty treats now..."

Without the vest.
I have a t-shirt on under that, plus leggings. I also took thick socks which I did not need.

You can never tell with the weather this time of year!
It rained off and on all night, after being sunny during the day.

Outerwear - the Return of the Loomed Lady coat! I know this is a reader favourite.
"You'll feel my wrath if you leave!"

True - Vizzini yowled in fury when we got home at 2am. We had to give him his treats just so he would let us go to sleep.

  • Scarf - thrifted
  • Gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
Second wearing of these beautiful boots.

Simple bling:
I wore my cat earrings in hopes of a Mabel sighting, but she's become a COVID kitty and is not socialized to people. Aw!

  • Brooch - Eaton's, c. 1999
  • Shield ring - Nine West
  • Silver/onyx ring - Toccara, vintage fair
  • Earrings - Winnie Tam

Sending you all sunny skies! Here's to the last week of summer.

  1. OOOh, what a clever idea to make the dress act like a jacket/cardigan. I really like that and I am not surprised that you were complimented.
I do love the stripy dress- I would TOTALLY wear it!
    Lovely to see Mr Vizzini!x

    1. I felt very clever when I thought of wearing it this way, Kezzie! Like a light bulb going off!

I love the stripey dress - it's so fun, a total jammy dress. Vizzini has been lurking a lot lately, lol.

  2. Oh, I am definitely going to copy this look with the dress buttoned only at the neck. There’s just something so cool about that! That striped dress is good, but the denim vest is the showstopper! That red sweater…I have to be careful with red. It has to be the red with blue undertones rather than with the yellow. Isn’t it funny how our feet start to dictate our looks! Shady feet!

    1. Please do! I love how we bloggers inspire each other. It felt very fun to wear.

I love the denim vest (which I've also worn as a dress).

Eh, I just buy colours I like - this is a blue-red, but close enough, especially for a layering piece.

Oh yes, footwear is always near the top of my priority list. Must be comfy!

  3. I love that striped dress.
Lovely Autumn outfit worn with the coat.
The red sweater looks warm and vibrant…what a find at a good price.

  4. I really like that striped dress on you, it's so nice with the vest! I like that first dress worn unbuttoned too - it does look so nice with the pink pants and your new purple bag!

    1. I liked how the vest worked over it - an easy way to add a bit of pizzazz and warmth without being too bulky. Thanks so much - I really loved that first dress worn like this.

  5. I absolutely love the dress worn over those pink trousers! I would never have thought to do that, though now I'm starting to wear more trousers, you've definitely given me ideas. I am hearing you on the heels, I'm having problem wearing them too, and that don't even have to be that high!
The denim long line vest worn over the striped dress makes for a gorgeous outfit too, and of course, I'm swooning over your Vizzini earrings. Oh, and the Loomed Lady is back! That coat is definitely worth having colder weather for. xxx

    1. I know, it's not something I would have done in the past either, Ann, but I ended up really feeling great in it. I bet you have a couple of cool dresses that would look great worn open over some palazzo pants!

Thank you - I liked it as a comfy/casual look. I know, my little kitty earrings! So cute. Yes, I loved wearing the Loomed Lady again!

  6. Clearly your weather has become colder judging by the layers in your outfits! I loved the second outfit the best especially with the vest/waistcoat over it. The boots looked incredibly comfortable and it was good to see the 'Loomed Lady Coat' again!

I also loved your cat earrings and the fab bangles you wore with the first outfit.

And talking of cats Vizzini is a very naughty cat punishing you for going out!!

Hope you have a great week.

    1. It has, Vronni! We get very defined seasons here, and bang, it's fall. Thank you so much - I agree, the denim vest makes it. I'm so happy to be wearing my coats again.

Thank you - he is a very vengeful cat! We love him anyway. Happy week to you!

  7. How dare you stay out till 2am, you disgraceful humans! What would have happened if I'd needed some emergency fuss? (That's our lads speaking on behalf of a very outraged looking Vizzini!)
I love the dress worn over the trousers, there's a very Japanese looking vibe going on there. The denim wrapover looks fantastic over the striped dress, too. Good to see the Loomed Lady out and about again although I'm glad it's not coat weather here yet! xxx

    1. I know, right? How dare we go out! The lads really do expect us to always be there!

Thank you - yes, I like the odd tucks in the dress, reminds me of Kenzo and Rei Kawakubo. I wish I'd been able to wear the vest over the dress more! Coat weather is my favourite - hooray for fall!

  8. What a great idea to wear that striped dress with your pink lady boss pants. This outfit is so pretty. I also love how you styled your striped dress. Beautiful outfits both of them!

Vizzini's reaction made me laugh:). He must be really attached to you two, maybe he was worried. If cats could talk:)....I wonder what he would say.

    1. I really liked how that outfit turned out, Ivana, thanks. I always aim to be comfy, but also look nice.

He is - he yowled like a demon when we got home, the outrage of not getting his treats on time! I think I capture his thoughts pretty accurately.

  11. I really like that! The two pieces really go well together. I'd probably never have guessed it was a dress and thought it was a lightweight coat.
