Red, Black, White and Shrouded in Grey

Ah, Monday, and things are all shrouded in smoke.
Things are looking up slightly, as it was raining by end of the day.

  • Vest - Pink Martini, consignment; last seen here in April with pink and grey
  • Top - Talbots, thrifted; last worn here in June with leopard for lunch
  • Skirt - Tatum & Olivia, consignment; purchased here for $12.00
  • Shoes - Zoomies Ishshoes, Fluevog; last seen here (2nd outfit) in July with orange vintage

My "view" of the Castle this morning. I caught a seagull zipping by.
I can barely see the light on in the tower window.

First wearing of this new-to-me graphic skirt. It was fabulous all day.
I paired it with this top made of circles.
That felt like it needed something else, so I threw on my own shroud of grey.
The knit was welcome as it was stuffy in the office (the air intakes are on low, due to the smoke).

Masked up.
I got soaked on the way home. The Weather Network never tells me when to wear a coat. Ah, well, it's only rain.

The stuff:
This is probably the final wearing of these shoes before I pack them away. Don't try to persuade me to keep them out - I have so many pairs of shoes to unpack for fall/winter!

Bold bling:
I am a fan of simple, uncluttered design. And also way-over-the-top elaborate design. I refuse to pick one!

  • Bracelet - vintage fair
  • Silver/onyx ring - Tocarra, vintage fair
  • Shield ring - Nine West
  • Earrings - vintage fair

My best black and white accessory is a purry one.
"Damn straight."

And how was your Monday?

  1. I love this new skirt. I am never sure if squares & circles work together but now you have convinced me that they definitely do! Vizzini is definitely the best accessory :). Lise

    1. Thank you so much, Lise! Graphic shapes nearly always work well together. Go for it!

He is, too bad I can't carry him around in public, ha ha!

  2. Simple and outspoken combined in one snazzy outfit! Alas for the smoke...we saw a similar photo from Robin where the far side of their backyard was draped in grey smoke. Hoping for all of you that rain comes and abates the fires, and wind currents disperse the smoke. Even here in NY the sun’s rays are mitigated by the smoke.
Anyway, back to the vibrant joy of your outfit!

    1. It's just awful right now, Laurie, and it's spread right across North America. The rain over the past couple of days here was nice, but the smoke is still very thick.

      Thanks, my dear!

  3. Good afternoon there Sheila, I love this outfit! Clever to pick out the grey as well as the red from that gorgeous skirt. You know I related to your line about you like simple and elaborate. I love simple classy colour pieces and think that's me then I also love feminine, bohemian, floral and soft pieces too ( I used to think I had to have one style but not any more!) hmm think a certain blogger is a good influence. Hope these fires abate soon. Fancy living so close to a castle! Shazxx

    1. Thanks so much, Shaz! I like 'em both - you can have as many styles as you like! Who says we always have to be/like the same all the time? Glad to be a good influence on you!

I hope so too. I'll have a special post about the Castle in a couple of weeks. :)

  5. Fabulous circles and squares! It looks even better with the long grey vest! Infinitely better than the grey view of the castle. It would look romantic if one didn't know it was smoke haze! Black and white accessories were the perfect choice, especially the purry one! My Monday was rather hectic but thankfully followed by a blissfully quiet Tuesday at home! xxx

    1. Thanks, Ann! I felt it needed a little extra something, and I liked the vest. Yes, I find the Castle very romantic, but not smothered in smoke.

My purry accessory is always my favourite. I also had a blissfully quite Tuesday!

  8. Red and black isn't my favorite color combo but red, black, grey, and white? Love it!
I hope that rain clears away some of your smoke! Very sad to hear all the bad news coming in from the west coast.

    1. I find red/black a little too "dragon lady" or overtly sexy, but I love more neutrals in there. Thanks, Ashley, but it doesn't seem to have helped. It's a weird time...

  10. Aaaah the new ribbon skirt! It is fabulous.

I've got a fortnight off, so my Monday was great - bit of freelance for a science fiction magazine, then beer in the sunshine at the pub.

  11. I love the combo of the top and skirt together, what a great pairing, especially with the grey vest! :) I really need to wear more red! It's a fun colour :)

I smiled at your comment on my blog - I do need some new supportive shoes for my knee but I am refusing to buy them as surely next week will be the week my at home exercises and gentle walks cures it, ha! Plus I'd have to go in store to make sure I tried on a few and got the most supportive ones and I'm not up to that right now. My knee is fairing better but I might have to admit defat and find a new physio soon. I keep holding out hope it will fix itself, with the exercises and gentle walks it is doing much better than at the start of the pandemic!

    1. I love these colours together, Mica. If I ever had to limit my colour palette, it would be black and white, plus red. I love red!

You do, young lady! Getting better supportive shoes will help your feet in the long run, so that you don't have to go back to sneakers. Get better soon!

Ugh, the smoke was so awful - we had haze for nearly a week.
