Monday Mini; Tights Save

All my days are a big blur for the most part, but I know when a Monday rolls around.
Time to break out my new-to-me dress. I'd considered it as a tunic, but I'm not really a tunic person.

  • Dress - can't read the label/Chinese; purchased here for $32.99
  • Shoes - Vagabond, consignment; first worn here in July with kaleidoscopic silk
  • Coat (below) - L'Atiste, consignment, Vancouver; last seen here in April

I am a mini-skirt person, though, so heck, why not go for it? I was comfy and enjoyed jamming my hands into the pockets while I chatted with a few people who popped into the office.
I suppose there are some folks out there clutching their pearls that a 50+ year old woman is wearing something this short.

Scandalous!
"This is me not caring."

For once, Vizzini is right. I really don't care if someone else thinks this dress is pushing the limits for length.

However, my original iteration of this outfit involved sheer nylons and it both looked and felt too short.
Saved! By blue tights! I actually felt more covered up, even though only the colour of my hosiery changed.

Masked up:
I didn't feel like wearing a red mask - I liked this pattern mix with the dress.

Outerwear - didn't really need it, but I wasn't overly sweaty either.
We're in the shoulder season/leather weather.

The stuff:
Love these shoes - and I really liked the 60s vibe of them with the blue tights. I might have to keep these out for fall.

Orange bling:
Although the colour in the dress is red, I went with orange accessories because...I have a full set!

  • Scarf - Marc Rozier, thrifted
  • Cuff/ring - Italian, mid-60s, vintage mall
  • Earrings - vintage expo
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

I have so many vintage scarves that I seldom wear (and I keep buying them!), so I'm making an effort to try to incorporate scarves into more of my outfits. This scarf is one I've had since 2011 (first seen here).

  1. I’m a great believer in minis and thick tights - we’ve got the legs, let’s work them! Who cares how old we are!

But I somehow turn into a prude when it comes to bare legs! I’ve got a whole heap of skirts and dresses that get packed away for the summer because I consider them too short!

    Tights as leg armour?

Anyway, I love that dress on you ((heart))

  3. Morning Sheila, love this outfit. You have got great legs and as you say the coloured tights well they look great. Loving the style of those shoes just remembered I had a blue pair years ago that I wore to death same style. I didn't get to comment yesterday but what a shirt! and SO glad the skies are clearer for you. Have a great day Shazxx

    1. Thanks so much, Shaz! Ha, well, my old-lady legs are still holding up. I love coloured tights and they work so well with feeling covered up.

Clear skies didn't last long - now it's rain rain rain.

  6. People that give a hoot about what other people wear are people I ignore. My lack of style, though trying to be distinct, annoys many people, but it suits me. Tights are a great find, but I need it to be cold, o at least very cool. I think you look great.

    1. Oh, I know! Those people are invariably not dressed very well, either! Glad you are still striving to stand out, SAM!

I wear nylons and tights for most of the year, brr, I always have cold legs.

  7. Conceding that I didn't grow up socialized as a woman, I simply don't understand the bias against older women wearing attractive clothes. The dress is adorable on you and not the least bit scandalous. Anyone who thinks it is has a problem, not you. There's no age-limit on beauty and freedom.

    1. It's part of the desexualization of women over 40 - we're expected to disappear into the background. It's very silly and an outdated attitude, and yet you still see it, in young and older people!

Thank you, dear Ally. I totally agree.

  8. I know what you mean about the scarves...

I like this outfit a lot and I can see why you changed the tights. I loved all the orange accessories and the shoes and bag were fabulous - very 60s vibe you have going on there, Sheila!

    Take care

    1. Oh, the scarves! I'm really trying to make an effort this week! :)

Thank you, Vronni! I felt much better once I swapped out nude for blue tights.

  9. Oh yes, I am utterly shocked at your mini dress :-)) Honestly, it looks absolutely amazing on you. It looks like the perfect jamming-your-hands-in-your-pockets dress, and I love the blue tights you're wearing with it. So much better than nylons. A very 60s vibe indeed. I'm the same with scarves, so thank you for the reminder that I should make more use of them. I'm actually looking forward to wear my coats and warmer jackets again! xxx

    1. Ha ha! Scandalous! I loved wearing it, Ann - it was comfy and I felt stylish and chic.

I seriously think my scarves are breeding. Where did they all come from?

  10. Yes let's talk about scarfs! Why does a women who hardly wears them find such fabulous ones? I mean Cardin, Lanvin! Wear them. Show them off. Make me even more greener! BTW, the lenght of this dress is fabulous on you. What do they say, if you've got it, flaunt it!

    1. Ha ha, sorry, Nancy! I just love beautiful things, and well-made clothes! I can't help it that many of the scarves I find are designer!

      Thanks so much!

  11. Hi Sheila,
Yay for orange jewelry and those awesome shoes (walkable heel, and a sling back that looks like it holds your foot in place)! The tunic dress looks perfect with the blue tights. Especially come fall weather, I prefer shorter skirts and dresses with darker hosiery or hosiery that matches some part of the dress. For one thing, I think it provides a longer line overall. For another, like you found, there is a psychological warmth to the darker colors rather than sheer nylons. :-)
And double yay for no more smoke over Victoria. :-) The fresh air of fall has ushered itself it. Ahhh...
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. Hi, Laurie! Yay for orange and blue, one of my favourite colour combos! Yes, I am usually not a fan of sling-backs, due to the slap-slap and falling off, but these shoes are excellent on both counts (not doing either).

I actually wear far more short skirts with dark/coloured tights in fall/winter than in spring/summer!

Hooray for no more smoke, now we just have NBR (Nothing But Rain) for the next several months! I do love the smell of it, though...ah....

  12. This is such a cute dress on you and you wear it so well! :) I love the orange accessories with this too, I definitely need more orange in my wardrobe! it's a big colour here at the moment for spring so I might end up with some more soon!

  13. Minis and tights are always a good look in my eyes and you pull the look off so well!

The orange pieces really make this outfit great! Plus the vintage scarf. I love wearing scarves with everything and am always thrilled to find a vintage scarf for a few dollars. X

    1. It's one of my favourite combos, Jess! Thanks so much.

I loved the oranges with this mini-dress. I adore vintage silk scarves, but have to restrain myself - I only buy the "name" ones these days!

  14. Love your mini-dress and love your attitude (rocking in your minis, dear Sheila!).
And this is such a cute dress, the print is fab, and it even has pockets!. Love the 60's vibe too and the Fabulous orange accessorizing.
Totally agree that tights (instead of nylons or barelegs) make a difference when wearing short skirts or dresses. I think you look Fab!

    1. Thank you, Monica, you got it - screw what anyone thinks! I'll wear minis if I want to!

It is a really cute dress (nice thick fabric) and I love the pattern and pockets. You know I love that groovy 60s vibe too.

It felt a bit more covered to me - tights are better with minis for me. Thank you!

  15. You look fantastic and you have great legs. Anyone who thinks you shouldn't wear a mini can get in the bin! (My husband suggested I was too old for short skirts, and I was very hurt. He hasn't said it again!)

  16. Love the funky colour mix in this outfit - your accessories add a 60's vibe to the tunic dress. I will wear short skirts in the winter with tights, but I don't wear them in the summer. Getting on and off buses, etc makes a short skirt and bare legs an impractical combo for me.

    1. Me too! I love that mod 60s look. Yes, exactly - I don't like bare legs with really short skirts, but I'm fine if I have tights on!

  17. The blue tights are such a winning pairing. I adore a great pair of coloured hose/tights and will soon be digging into my wee collection of them again, too (pine green and cocoa brown are particular faves).
