Weekend Wrap-Up: Blue Print, No Glasses

Hello, my friends, I hope you're having a lovely weekend.
It's been quiet in my life - just a brunch out on Saturday with L and Nick, and a few errands.

  • Cardigan - no label, thrifted; not tracked
  • Dress - Birds of Canada, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) in July 2019 to the Ulti field
  • Netting underskirt - Noa Noa; last spotted here in March 2019 under a favourite dress
  • Shoes - Pilgrim Truths, Fluevog; last worn here in July with my Lifesavers dress

We woke up to a lovely hot day, blue sky and...no more bag over the Castle's tower room!
"Hey! Hey! The lady is back!"

There was a chorus of seagull cries as I did my stair picture.
"Lady alert! Lady alert!"

We strolled to Pluto's, had brunch with Nick, then wandered to town.
Getting a wearing in of this lovely dress. I have so many dresses, many of them only get worn once a year.
I have only had this dress for 3 years, so no Flashback. I always wear it with red and gold.

Masked up:
This is the reverse white mini-dot on red of one of my floral masks.

Cardigan off, although I didn't take it off while we were out at all.
The dress is fully-lined with the same fabric, with a floppy bow at the neck.
The pattern is vaguely oriental, with turtles, clouds and bamboo.
I wear this netting underskirt with many of my shorter dresses to give me extra length.
Klassy!

The stuff:
Comfy shoes for walking.

Gold bling:
All the usual stuff.

  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Klimt wooden ring - consignment
  • Chain bracelet - thrifted
  • Ball bracelet - Butler Fifth Avenue Collection, consignment

L and I had an appointment at Goo Goo Goggles to pick up our new glasses and get them properly fitted...only when they looked at mine, they'd missed that my prescription had changed and so my glasses have to be completely remade! Arg! Another 2-3 weeks still.

At least L got his!
They are by Theo (lookbook link here 'cause I love), same as both of our last/current pairs. It's a creative brand - lots of colour.

Instead of getting my new glasses, I consoled myself with a new book and some more masks.
I needed some blues and neutral colours.

When we got home, Vizzini was there to greet us.
"Oh, were you out?"

Many cuddles were had.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

  1. That birds of Canada dress is a work of art. I love that you wore a fun undergarment under it, makes the whole look even more cool. That netting underskirt looks so cool worn with that dress. I love the red shoes and cardigan with the red lip- very matchy. You look stunning!!!!!!!!!! I also like your light blue glasses, sorry to hear they messed up your prescription and you weren't able to get new ones-I hope they arrive soon enough. The new glasses L got are lovely.

    1. Thank you, Ivana! I like the underskirt because it feels more modest, but it's really not. I like all the red with this outfit too. I know, I'm so sad - they were there, I looked longingly! L's are very cool.

  2. That dress does look so lovely with red and I like that you had a matching mask too! Masks are getting more commonplace here, although they aren't mandatory yet, and I might need to step up my game matching them to my outfits when I can, haha! :) Sorry your glasses weren't ready though, that must be so frustrating! Hopefully the prescription in your other pair is okay for a little longer!

    1. Thanks, Mica! I deliberately chose patterned ones with useful reverse colours, knowing I'd need them. They aren't mandatory here yet either, but I have a feeling that's not far off.

Oh yes, my current glasses are great - I'll wear both pairs once I have them.

  3. This underskirt is awesome. It gives the dress the right length and the right edgy twist. Love the outfit. The mask matches well with the look. I still have to get some masks that work with my clothes. Cute cat by the way.

    1. Thank you so much, Nicole, nice to see you! I agree, the underskirt really makes it. I have to match, can't help it.

      Yes, he knows it! Thanks!

  5. Yay, it posted! For ages my iPad would not actually post what I wrote so this is cause for a happy dance!
The reds of matchy matchy and the dress with the funky under slip for length all combined to uplift my morning! (That is often the case when I read your posts :))
I am a fan of L’s new glasses, both the style and the color. This is making me wonder if there is any research on the power of not only color (which I think there is) but also style and how it impacts people’s moods. My first person research (as in reading your blog and Judith of Style Crone) is that all your posts uplift my spirits and get my creative juices flowing. Fascinating. I guess it is like looking at art, and in this case art AND the artists...living art. :)
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. I'm so glad it worked, Laurie! And I saw my post emailed, so phew there too.

Aw, that makes me happy too! Glad you enjoyed all the colour. L's glasses are awesome, aren't there? I don't think I've seen anything about how style impacts mood but it seems a natural connection to me! They make me happy, and when I need a boost, a good colourful outfit works wonders. I do consider my outfits living art - that's a great way to put it. Thanks, Laurie!

  6. PS Plus you humanize and personalize your posts, which adds a whole other layer of connection. I think your posts and all the conversations you have with us readers/followers/commenters shows how digital technology CAN bring people together. Okay, will stop now, am starting to wax philosophical!

  7. Good to hear that Nick's doing some socialising.
Loving the brocade dress, the red accessories are a brilliant choice. L's glasses are fantastic, what a disappointment with yours after we were all excited about seeing them.
Look at Vizzini, all floppy in the sunshine. Give him a cuddle from me! xxx

    1. Yes, we're keeping him close, and stay connected, chatting every few days.

I wish that dress was brocade, but it's just a print. I know, I was bummed, but eh, first world problems, right? :)

He is so happy in the sun. Proxy cuddles were given! Thanks, Vix!

  9. Do you live near the sea, because of the seagulls? We had a last summer weekend with BBQ and friends!

    1. You bet I do, Nancy! Do you know where Vancouver or Seattle are? I'm way over there, on an island.

Nice! I haven't had any BBQ, but it's so good to see friends.

  10. It's been quiet in my life too, which seems to be the norm lately. We did get to do some successful charity shopping and went to a barbecue at Jos's son - slave of the haughty Abby - on Sunday. It was nice seeing Jos's children and grandchildren, even if it was socially distanced. I love the colour and print of that little dress which is looking very jaunty worn with the netting underskirt. With so many dresses in my wardrobe, quite a few of them are only worn once a year, but that's fine. I love the pops of red and gold you've accessorized it with. L's new glasses are fabulous - I used to have Theo's in the past, they're a great brand - but what a shame about yours! Arg indeed! I fully approve of your new masks - and it definitely makes me feel better about my mask wardrobe! Aww look at Vizzini! xxx

    1. More BBQ, how lovely! Yes, it is still feeling so strange to not have oodles of plans and things to do and people to see. I'm trying not to shop too often, as I'm wearing fewer clothes due to working fewer days. Thanks, Ann - I feel bad about only wearing a dress once a year, but I'd rather get through them all.

It was a drag not to get my glasses - I saw them! Right there! - but at least L got his, which he really needed, as his other pair broke. I have around 20 masks now - I need a lot to go with all my colourful clothes.

      Hello to Abby and Phoebe!

  11. The longer sheer layer under the dress is a great way to add length, even if it is see-through. I have a couple of full, light cotton skirts that I will wear under a shorter dress to add length and visual interest.

I really like the colour(s) of L's new specs. My last pair of glasses were colourful, but I decided to go with basic black for my current ones as they coordinated with most of my outfits. I would love to have a wardrobe of different colours of glasses to coordinate with different outfits but my prescription is too costly to do that.

    1. It's one of those blogger tricks I picked up over the years - it works well to make a short skirt less risque.

Aren't they cool? He wears a lot of blue and has gotten progressively more daring in his style over the years. I've been wearing turquoise for over 3 years, and it's been fine for matching/clashing (my prescription is $$ too!).

  12. Ah, you use the same trick as I do for elongating a dress. Pretty one.
    Love L’s glasses.

  13. Oooh, what a lovely dress. The netting underskirt is a great idea for making things longer. I'd have assumed it was part of the dress if you hadn't said anything.

    1. Most people think it is part of the dress - I have a couple of dresses that I wear it under for length. Thanks, Mim!

  14. Lovely dress, the print is really beautiful, and so brilliant to add some lenght using a cute underskirt!. Love the red shoes and cardi and how they enhance the red details in the print. Really gorgeous!

    1. Thank you! It's a very pretty, easy dress to wear, even if I'm very unimaginative with always wearing red and gold with it!

Doesn't he look awesome? Such a spiffy guy.

  15. This dress would also look fab with red tights.
L's glasses are way beyond cool.
